We saw him crush like a thousand bullets coming at him from all direction and survive to even a couple who hit him in his blind spot and two which aimed at vital points which he also could not see or dodge which can pierce any tree and even the ground and can be manuvered. After all that he was still able to move faster than Kidomaru second stage and deliver a fatal blow with the ultimate and most difficult tecnique of his clan (which he used a lot of time in this fight too) You can't excepect me to believe he was done for when he got a rain of bullets in Shippuden and could not avoid getting one as big as his whole back. This is a ridiculus way to have him die. Obito or Madara could've just overpower him with rinnegan if he was just meant to die.
