I love the lyrics to this song, honestly, because you have to realize that Neko isn't saying that she's a man-eater. She's literally singing from the animal's perspective. This song is about animals going insane from being kept in captivity and then killing people, and her wondering why anyone is surprised by this. So great, I love the subject matter that she chooses!
@diojiwoolf4723
@diojiwoolf4723 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's comparing her experience with relationships to a frustrated animal lashing out against captivity. I don't think it's the animal rights anthem we've been looking for.
@YaelTiferet
@YaelTiferet 3 жыл бұрын
@@diojiwoolf4723 as someone who is very much not an animal "rights" person (animal welfare is another matter) I don't think you have to believe that meat is murder and nobody should ever own pets to think people are stupid for not expecting mistreated, caged wild animals in bad zoos to want to eat them.

@@YaelTiferet What? I'm just saying she's using caged wild animals as a metaphor in the song. It's a parable not an anthem.

I remember my mother listing to this song often while I was in the backseat of the car. I remember a few of the lyrics and decided to search for it. I almost gave up until discovering this, still great like I remembered. Thank you mom!

I could not agree more. Her work is always interesting and wonderful, but she really nailed it with Nothing to Remember. Not only is the song itself hauntingly beautiful, it also ties in perfectly with the spirit of the film. Just all-around awesome.

There are very few singer/songwriters who create something that exists on another plane, where the whole is greater, more mysterious and evocative than the words or melody alone. For me, Kate Bush could do this decades earlier; Neko is a modern evocateur, in the same vein - songs are simultaneously gorgeous, lush, while the words tell an entirely contradictory story. Tom Waits, entirely different in every respect, and earlier Springsteen as well, managed this magical trick.

@UncleIrv Not to split hairs, but Buck Owens' 1954 recording of "Louisiana Swing" with Bud Hobbs was considered the genesis of the Bakersfield Sound. Haggard helped popularize it in the early 60s, but he didn't "form" it. Although, I surely agree with your sentiment in the comment. Modern mainstream country doesn't sound like country at all.

Well, They first caught my attention in early October last year and then I got their albums Challengers and Electric Version on Christmas. Honestly, They didn't interest me much until I bought Twin Cinema on January Third or so. I then listened to Twin Cinema for a month and a half before enjoying Challengers and then it took another two months and a week before I liked Electric Version. I bought Mass Romantic sometime in April or May and just started liking it in the last month or so.

So for Christmas I'm putting together a playlist of some of the most important songs for me and my dad (it's his present) and when I was little I used to say I had a list of my "scary songs" I don't know why I called them that I wasn't afraid of them😂 for some odd some reason this song was on there at the bottom tier of scariness (oh yeah I ranked them based on how "scary" they were) but I remembered how much I loved this song. But I could not for the life of me find it I've been searching for an hour because I could only remember the verse "man man man eater" keep in mind I was like three or four when this song came out we don't listen to it often enough for me to remember the actual title because when I was little I just called it man eater...Normally in that situation I ask my dad but I couldn't ask him because duh. So I went back into his deep Spotify playlists (best of the 2000s) to try and find either the song or the artist. I finally found the song that I remembered and thought it was it. I listened to it and immediately knew it wasn't the song (I still really like that song we used to listen to that one too it was "I'm an Animal") but that it was definitely the artist. So I looked at the list of her songs and went through the lyrics for all of them till I finally found it I'm not even kidding I started crying. 😂
