Alternate Title: seeing Nekroz make armor and weapons from Ice Dragons Getting a lot of Drizzit vibes here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Explain all of the Nekroz cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! at time of recording, how they work individually and together, as well as synergies with other cards, You might even learn some trivia while you're here!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Everyone! GoldenNova here! It's Patron Week, and that month, Nekroz took center stage! As one of the few decks in the game's history to be considtered 'Tier Zero', Nekroz pushed the game to a limit it'd never seen before. Amazing reach, oppressive effects, and the ability to close the game out of nowhere meant that this deck, through a number of hits, still kept on going. But how does it hold up today?

Nekroz is my absolutely favorite deck of all time. I just wish they would do something again like Shaddoll and BA did (their literal DUEA colleagues) over the course of countless formats. Also some more tech ideas: - Dogmatika goes pretty well with them since Nadir Servant and Maximus can get more ED monsters to the grave - Play Diviner of the Herald instead of Manju. With N'tss in the ED she can also get rid of cards that lock you out of special summoning; Ritual Decks' greatest fear - Ultimate Slayer is another way to get ED monsters to the grave while also being removal going second - If you play Impcantations then give Zaborg the Mega Monarch a chance. You should know by now why

Nekroz in terms of lore was always really cool to me, basically Monster Hunter in Yugioh. Such a neat concept and really fun theming. Nekroz is when Ritual Monsters got really good. Maybe too good. For certain, I prefer something like Impcantations, where the support solves the issue, but doesn't over-fix them until the ban-hammer is pulled out. Kinda like what happened with Drytron several years later.

If fusion can use Quick-play as Fusion spell, we need searchable Quick-ritual spell too. Maybe a card (or arctype) that can search spell/trap that mention "ritual summon" from deck to hand. Ritual like Shinobaron, Shinobaroness, and Demise lvl. 4 are good ritual monsters if you summon them in opponent turn. Ruin & Demise have their own Quick-play spell ritual, but not searchable, actually it will make them better if it is searchable.

Another tech pick would be zaborg the mega monarch in a more impcantation oriented build. The imps give you tribute fodder and zaborg sending 3 arc lights, psy-frame omega, toad, and your choice of fossil knight, n'tss, and/or wind pegasus(basically any targets for nadir servant or punishment) while also shredding your opponents extra deck is too spicy not to mention. It might be a bit high roll, but man is it crazy when it goes off!

This is from a fun format - but mind you, I played RitBeasts back then, as the Nekroz matchup was generally pretty good since they don't care about getting their stuff banished. Plus they could dodge Clausolas pretty easily. Though I'll admit, I was briefly tempted to play these myself, before deciding against it on principle as a Gishki purist. XD

So I sadly am one of those people that DOES use 1-2 Sophia if only for the extra deck lock. It works well if you're going 2nd since your opponent only has a Main Phase 1 during their first turn. So if you can get that lock, you might be doing pretty good even if she can't be summoned easily, as your opponent would have to basically skip their turn. Though I WAS lucky enough to summon her out once. But only once xD

What's my favorite Nekroz? Dunno, never really played with them, even in DuelingNetwork. Was too preoccupied with various inefficient 60 card pure variants of decks that I'd keep throwing together to play with for two to three weeks before my short attention span moved onto another one. Filthy casual, I know. I kept going back to Gem-Knights and Deskbots though. They were kinda my default. To the point where once Duelingbook came out, my first course of action was to recreate the Gem-Knight and Deskbot decks that I had made back on DuelingNetwork. Not to actually play them again or anything, but literally just to have them there. For comfort. Or something. I didn't even play anymore after MR4 came out. I understood how links worked, I just... didn't want to spend the brain power it took to implement links into every deck that liked to make multiple extra deck monsters. I was lazy like that.

I came back into the game towards the end of 2015, so I never saw this deck at its prime. Heard many times than it was tier 0 and all, but was it all because of the Djinn lock? Because none of the other cards seem that game-breaking, maybe with the exception of Trishula.

Yeah but even without Djinn it was still by far the best deck. Yeah non of the cards read as if they were gamebreaking but when you have a deck filled with that many good cards in one deck + busted generic Ritual Support it leads to a very good deck with very little weaknesses during it's time. A Jack of all trades but master of non type situation with the exception being the crazy consistency the deck had.

23:01 Isn't Sophia an actual goddess? If you're only interested in competitively viable cards, you could call it a waste of cardboard, sure, but it's very fitting that the forbidden art to draw from her power is very difficult to perform (then again, the pay-off is incredibly mediocre, given the cost, and doesn't really match the vibe of divine power, as if this was the result of a ritual performed incorrectly, as if something had gone wrong there; and it's not like the card would have seen play, had it been a literal alternative win condition, right?). Edit: On a different note, Nekroz can barely foot the material to summon the Nekroz of Sophia at all. While the archetype consists of almost exclusively three types and you'll likely run monsters of all three types, there is no combination of those that includes one of each type and adds up to eleven. Shurit and his other forms are Level-3, -6, -9, and -10 Warriors. The Great Sorcerer Avance, the Dance Priestess Emilia, and their respective forms are Level-4, -7, and -8 Spellcasters (plus one Level-11 in the Nekroz of Sophia herself but she can obviously not be a material for her own summon). Exa and his forms are Level-5 and -10 Dragons. The only way aside from level modulation is to use a Level-3 Warrior (Shurit or his Clausolas form), a Level-4 Spellcaster (Avance the Great Sorcerer or his Unicore form; or the Dance Priestess Emilia herself), and the one Level-4 Psychic, the Priestess Ariel. This means there are two constellations of characters involved, both of which add even more flavour to the card: In the first case, the materials are the three members of the Nekroz other than Emilia: Avance, Ariel, and Shurit. Note that they are required to be on the field, as if they were surrounding Emilia performing the ritual to draw from Sophia, and perhaps aiding her in this effort somehow; they must not be in the graveyard, so Emilia is not standing over their corpses (unlike Noellia at some earlier point in the story). In the second case, the materials are Emilia, Shurit, and Ariel. One might wonder what happened to Avance but aside from that the scene looks rather similar to the first case. Exa is missing in both cases, which may add a sadder note to the card. However, it seems that for some reason Ariel joining the Nekroz is crucial for accessing the power of Sophia.
