@Zinfidel18 жыл бұрын
"insanely more" Have you seen the videos on Pioneer's yt channel? There's more to the Toraiz than meets the eye. For me in particular: its intuitive design, touch screen, color coded pads/step sequencer (also I like that it has velocity sensitive pads unlike octatrack), easy splicing, time stretch, all the audio ins and outs, lots of storage space, and the 2 analog filters seems like a great idea. Plus, the whole Project/scene/pattern/track/arrangement/mixer thing sounds like a dream for me.
@savageparasyte768 жыл бұрын
you do know octotrack does most of the same things, but just lacks a touch screen and colored pads? I'm a dsi fan, but lets not pretend there are not other or better thhings on the market. As an owner of dsi and an elektron device the rytm I'd honestly say I would get elektron over the toraiz because it has samples and analog, but thats just me.
@Zinfidel18 жыл бұрын
So let us not pretend like we know what the Toraiz does or doesn't. At this point, I would still go with the Toraiz. Playing samples and synths in a scale or slice using pads while easily laying down steps is crucial to my work flow. A touch screen is much better then constant button presses to access things. If the Electron Sampler had touch pads it would be a close call but I would probably still choose Toraiz. Unless more info comes out and it sucks. People are getting Elektron SuperFan on this comment and you don't even know what the Toraiz does!

alright, ended upp getting me the impact lx 49 plus. everything thing feels nice and sturdy, the pads, knobs, faders, and buttons are good quality. The keys don't feel cheap at all, not to soft or too hard. kind of feel like my motif es and triton pro, but a lttle bit springy, slightly. no probs with installation of drivers for presonus studio one, and there is no drivers for fl studio, just follow the directions for the midi settings in the pdf file and everything should work, that's for fl studio 11 and 12. if I have one critique, a response from nektar support, they said they weren't able to add the soft take over feature, it's not available for studio one, so you have to use the null function the mixer mode to keep the volumes of your tracks to keep from jumping, plus you're not able to press and hold the 9th button and move the 9th fader to adjust the master track, hopefully they'll be able to have that in an update, so in the mean time, i just use my faderport for that. overall , glad with my purchase of this midi controller. highly recommend. yep!

Seems very nice, except for the fact that it has no custom integration for Ableton Live (according to their website).
@aaalllfff8 жыл бұрын
I've read that on NEKTAR website they made available a script to provide Ableton Live integration. Not sure what you mean by "custom" integration though, and if that is covered too (isn't it obvious that once the keyboard can work with a given DAW then it controls can be remapped, in a custom way?). Anyway, I am new to midi controllers and I am planning buying one, but I am a bit puzzled about picking this NEKTAR or a M-audio Oxygen MK4 (also 49 keys). Any quick advice anyone? Thanks a lot!
@tonhueb8 жыл бұрын
+alfiozzz I'm sorry, I didn't mean custom remapping, that can be done with any midi controller in Ableton (and many other DAWs) anyway. I meant the integration of Ableton Live in the Nektar software. Nektar provides an Ableton Script, but that's handled within Ableton and can be a lot more limiting. Maybe it works maybe not, I'd have to see someone demo/review it with Live.
@aaalllfff8 жыл бұрын
+Ton Trayger Hmm.. I still don't understand. What do you mean by integration of Ableton in Nektar software? Are you talking about the "8 Tracks" DAW that Netktar ships with the keyboard not being able to interact with Ableton? I'm really interested in this topic because I use Ableton and I would like to understand what the actual limitations are. I thought that the script they provide would allow the keyboard to auto configure and auto map itself with Ableton as it does already with other DAWs.. Is this wrong? If this can be done, what is it then that is not possible to do? Or what you think it might not be possible to do? I hope you can take the time to clarify these points, thanks a lot!!
@tonhueb8 жыл бұрын
+alfiozzz No, "8-Track" is a lite version of Bitwig which is included if you buy this nektar keyboard. What I mean (and was also mentioned by the guy in the video) is the hidden bit of software that makes this keyboard work together with the listed DAWs so much better than any other midi controller. ("Nektar DAW Integration custom designed for Bitwig, Cubase, Digital Performer, FL Studio, GarageBand, Logic, Nuendo, Reaper, Reason, Sonar and Studio One takes Impact LX+ way beyond functionality normally offered by a USB MIDI controller keyboard." -quote from Nektar website.) For any other DAW (including Ableton) it works like a regular midi controller, plus they give you this Ableton Script that lets Ableton map the midi controller values to the correct things in Ableton. I don't know all the possibilities of Ableton Scripts (it's a programming interface for hardware developers, not publicly specified), but I could imagine for example that the "select next track"-buttons wouldnt work or that the knobs wouldn't automap as nicely, since Ableton's automapping would apply. And I've had some experience with Abletons automapping (using Ableton Scripts for my stupidly old Midiman Oxygen8 keyboard). It does react quite funky for most plugins. Also in the video it was said that Nektars automapping system would save custom mappings per plugin, and I know for sure Ableton's does not once per plugin but you'd have to do it again in every new project. However as I said, I don't know for sure what is posible with Ableton Scripts and how it works with this Nektar controller. And I'm probably being very nitpicky and I don't know what you want to use it for, maybe for you it would suffice. But I personally would wait until someone did a review of how well it works with Ableton. I hope I could help you.
@aaalllfff8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining. So basically there are two levels of integration: - mapping with Remote Midi scripts (the Ableton Script we were talking about) - native auto-mapping, where the DAW and the controller "collaborate" to offer a more accurate and in-deep integration. Correct? So I was gonna say that our best hope is to wait for Nektar to expand the "hidden bit of software" of the LX 49+ to also support Ableton Live, but then I found the following from this forum page audiosex.pro/threads/nektar-impact-lx49-for-ableton-9-5.23180/: --- Last year at Musikmesse, I had a nice chat with Tim Chandler about the panorama keyboard. Obviously, you're asking about another controller [he had asked about the Impact LX] but we spoke about Ableton and Nektar supporting them or not supporting them in general. The thing is that Nektar doesn't list Ableton Live as supported DAW because Ableton doesn't open their API (or whatever) to Nektar, so they are not able to program native support for Ableton Live into Nektar's software. This is apparrently different with other companies which thus appear on said list. So there is no official support for Ableton Live as long as Ableton remains so restrictive, but there are unofficial scripts that enable Nektar products to work with Ableton Live. --- And also this, from their facebook page: facebook.com/NektarTech/videos/1344663925561722/?comment_id=1345059228855525 --- Q: Will Ableton Live ever be natively supported? A: We'd love to, but it's not likely unfortunately. --- Now, If this controller can't achieve a convenient DAW (Ableton Live) integration, does it still have some advantages compared other controllers in the same price range, for example M-Audio Oxygen 49?
@peterenola22656 жыл бұрын
Considering whether to get the Nektar Impact LX49+ or the Novation Impulse 49. Both have good faders, knobs etc (even though Novation has 55mm faders vs 30mm from Nektar), transport and so on. The big difference are the keys. I checked the Nektar out and even though they are dynamic the keys feel a little plastic vs the semi-weighted keys of Novation. Also the Novation is much older than the Nektar and I'm wondering if this has any influence on the actuality of its drivers for Windows. I used to have enormous problems with my old controller (M-Audio Axiom 49, never again!) in this field. The price is not a huge dealbreaker as the difference between both is not too big. Compatibility with Reason is assured by both, but I'm worried by the lack of official support on Nektar of Ableton Live, which I also sometimes use. Any ideas/advice?
@shitmandood6 жыл бұрын
I have a Novation Impulse right now & after I upgraded Reason, I couldn't get the damn instruments to map anymore. I had to go dig around on their incredibly shitty support site, find the Automap update. Next, I had to go reasonremoter website to get an updated remote file to map just about every Rack Extension there is (including the recently released Noise Engineering REs). I think I spent just last Friday, Saturday, & Sunday night working on the Novation trying to figure out why the pots wouldn't work & the programming software wouldn't map properly. I couldn't figure out how to get it to work with VSTs either. However, Hydlide let me know that the Hamu Newtrols could be used to control other instruments. Assuming that the Hamu RE is mapped for Novation Impulse, then I can use that & CV to map to various dials/knobs in a VST. And trying to figure out how to setup MIDI in Novation Impulse is greek...nothing easy about it & the Automap software sucks if you try to design your own control configuration. I also recently picked up Bitwig a few months ago & my Impulse won't do much with it. So I'm eyeing the Nektar heavily since it can automate both Reason and Bitwig and has very quick assignments you can do yourself. What's more, Nektar actually tells you on their website how they're working on changes, updates, or problems. Whereas the Novation website has this abandoned feel to its products to it, which makes me think it's running on auto-pilot right into a site shutdown. The weighted keys on the Novation, MIDI In/Out jacks, arpeggiator, plus an input for expression & sustain are the only things keeping me from getting rid of it. If I get a Minibrute 2S in the future & want to control it with a MIDI controller, the Novation could be put to use in that capacity. Or just playing the notes & so on. But if you want to sweat over trying to get the Mixer & Controller to work with the DAW rather than make music, it's a black art for the Novation. I was lucky to stumble onto the things that I did find for it to get mine working normally with Reason (up to a point anyway). However, the DAW Integration is weak, so I need something that works well out of the box. The price is also far better...I'd have been a lot happier now with the Nektar than the Novation if I bought a Nektar last year. Just based on the demo of the Nektar with Reason and Bitwig, you can tell that they put a great deal of effort into making it effortless. And that's what I want! The Novation is more of a project now....but I can use it in the interim until my Nektar gets here (I actually have two systems for music production with one being portable that I'll relegate to one of these 49-key MIDI controllers & the other will be my main).

how do i change the generic color of the pads. its usually green when i turn it on but i want it red
@therealfreeman8 жыл бұрын
Hold shift and press the rightmost pad on the bottom. You then have selected pad mapping preset number 4, which leads to the pads turning red.

it would be perfect if it comes with full Ableton DAW integration...
@tim.chandler7 жыл бұрын
Full integration for Ableton Live to the same level as Bitwig, Logic is not there yet, but there is a basic script on Nektar's website for Live.
@chris53757 жыл бұрын
THX Tim, i own Live Suite. But i will experiment with Bitwig as the 2.0 will be release at Feb 28th. :-)

Can I use this MIDI with Pro Tools?
@AndreaArturoGiuseppeGrossi5 жыл бұрын
Hello there! I am the owner of a LX49+ and I would like to know if it is possible to use the pad as MIDI controlled push-buttons to trigger events in some software like VCV Rack or such. That would be incredibly cool and useful! I haven't found anything about that in the manual and so far any attempt lead me to nothing... Thank you for any suggestions you might give! :-)

Will it map rack extensions?
@tim.chandler8 жыл бұрын
Yes, over 380 Reason devices and Rack Extensions mapped in total.

They can be assigned such that they will work with Pro Tools, but there's no automatic setup for Pro Tools like there is most other DAWs.

hey maybe some of you might help me out: i have my lx49+ connected to my laptop, but i want to connect it to my audio interface, how do i do that, only see one more hole for the footswitch
@tim.chandler7 жыл бұрын
This is not possible sorry.
@TheDreamJP7 жыл бұрын
Tim Chandler in that case, if i record with it, do i get the full sound from my speakers after the recording?
@tim.chandler7 жыл бұрын
The music software on the computer generates sound. So when you press record on LX49+ you are actually triggering recording in the software. LX49+ by itself can not generate sound.
@TheDreamJP7 жыл бұрын
Tim Chandler so in that case after triggering the software to make the sound and record some stuff, i should hear it from the studio monitors right?
@tim.chandler7 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you are having problems check the audio settings in your software, or contact Nektar support for additional help www.nektartech.com/Support

Yes, fully integrated.

Is this better than P4 I'm a logic user
@tim.chandler7 жыл бұрын
It's different! If you are big on synth programming the P4 gives you more access to plugin controls plus you can customize the arrangement of the parameters across the P4. You can also control inserts, sends - basically the full mixer channel strip. This is more than some people's needs and in this case the LX+ will suffice.

Can u use this keyboard on abelton and fl stusio
@tim.chandler7 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. FL studio has default mapping. With Ableton it works as a generic MIDI controller.
