The belt's molded as if the sides it had hinges, but doesn't actually have hinges, because of the electronics running through it. That's such an odd design priority, valuing form too much over function. You'd have to have a very specific waist side to comfortably wear and play with it as shown in the movie, and even for display, it's perpetually stuck clogging up that much horizontal shelf space. But it looks nice, I suppose.
