There is no sharp demarcation between crime and extremly stressfull social situations. They form part of a continuum.

I was only 8 in 1971... had I been three or four years older and watched this I've got a feeling I would have had a serious crush on Ann Lynn. Instead Agnetha from Abba came along.... On the subject of this episode...if Mrs. Hardy knew that a mucus sample from a handkerchief (yuk how very British!) could reveal blood type, why didn't Prof. suggest that instead of walking out saying 'there's nothing more I can do for you?'. If he was saying that because he really wasn't keen on finding this information out for Mrs. Fletcher, surely he wouldn't be that pleased that his wife then went and opened another line of enquiry. At least not without some scene of testy debate between his wife saying "Well, you could..." and Prof. cutting up pieces of said snot-rag (the colloquial English for the piece of linen!)?

LOL! I was 9 in 1971! I remember watching Season 4 of The Expert here on the ABC in Australia in 1977 and had never seen any of the episodes from the previous seasons until a few years ago. We are still on the lookout for any more episodes that may be out there. I just recently read about some William Hartnell episodes of Doctor Who that were thought lost but have been discovered in a private collection. Maybe someone out there has some more of The Expert! Yes, he is deeply unpleasant. I love Anthony Bate in lots of other TV shows but here his character is quite nasty.
