Nelofar R. is a Health Care Hero

The daughter of refugees from Afghanistan, Nelofar R and her family immigrated to Canada when she was five. She was bullied as a young child and used to hide under a slide at lunchtime with her one friend. Today, Nelofar doesn’t hide anymore but stands up for what she believes in and advocates for others.
It was her father’s near-death heart attack that opened her eyes to health care. “The nurses were fantastic! … They made a drastic change in my Dad’s life.” That was when she knew her place was in the hospital. “This is where I’m meant to be. This is what I’m meant to do. This is my calling.”
Nelofar’s defining moment was walking across the stage at Stenberg College’s graduation ceremony with a diploma in her hand. She had made her parents’ proud!
She has worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the past 5 years and is now studying to become a Registered Nurse (RN) online at Athabasca University while working fulltime.
She is a health care hero.
