One other example that was brought to my attention by a KJV Only meme I saw on Facebook: In Luke 2.22, the Received Text has "when the days of *her* purification according to the law of Moses were completed ..." But both the modern critical text and the Traditional Text have "when the days of *their* purification according to the law of Moses were completed..." The NKJV has no text note to alert the reader to the difference. I have no idea what criteria the NKJV editors used in deciding which differences to highlight and which to ignore.

Just as a side note, the Catholic Douay-Rheims Bible agrees with the Received Text, the KJV, and the NKJV. But it disagrees with the modern versions (ESV, NASB, CSB ...) and with the text preserved through the centuries among Greek-speaking Christians.

@@RGrantJones My NKJV Bible says "her purification". I'm currently reading the Douay Rheims Challoner Revision 1752 translation on my phone.

thank you so much for your detailed review! it was so helpful to me to help me choose a Bible, when I have no bible stores in my city, so I had to make the decision purely from online searches and helpful reviews like this one! God bless and reward your work!

The New King James Version is different from most other modern Bible versions in that its New Testament is based on the Received Text rather than the modern critical texts. The Received Text is of the Byzantine text-type, whereas most modern versions use an Alexandrian text-type such as Nestle-Aland 27th or UBS 4th. I believe that the Byzantine text-type is superior to the modern critical text for a few reasons. First, the text is geographically closest to the storehouse of the originals, Antioch. Second, for all the charges that "additions" were made to the Byzantine majority text, no one can point to any significant additions in the 1500-year known history of the type, from 500AD to 1500AD. Third, the Alexandrian texts suffer drop-out errors due to the distance from Antioch; they were receiving copies of copies with no originals to compare to. Fourth, the Alexandrian text fell out of use around 600AD, probably because it was recognized to be inferior to the Byzantine text. The Received Text is very, very close to the Byzantine Majority Text, and the New King James Version is translated using the "formal equivalency" method, which produces a readable text that reflects as much as possible every word in the original Greek. So I would recommend the New King James Version on the basis that it uses the best translation methodology with the best text type.

Once again, I must point out that a 10pt font is not LARGE. Not for people who have serious vision issues. I have glaucoma, and a 10pt. font is a struggle guu oh f me. I am updating my Bibkes, because I csn no longer read them. It had been years since I have explored the Bible market, snd I sm shocked at what passes for a large font. I have done really old family heirloom Bibles with large to giant fonts, and the difference is truly amazing.

You're right, Sandy. I believe that Nelson publishers an NKJV Journal the Word Bible with a smaller font (probably in the 8.5 to 9 pt range). This is the *larger* print edition of that Bible, but it is by no means large print.

thanks for the many useful and interesting bible reviews... i have enjoyed your videos very much... i have only one complaint, and it has to do only with technical details: your mic is catching up/reflecting all too much treble... it can be really bothering/interfering in the long run...

Does this have the apocrypha in it? Or is there another compactish journaling Bible with apocrypha? Thanks and God bless!

No, no apocrypha here. It appears that there is an NRSV Journal the Word Bible with Apocrypha: www.amazon.com/Journal-Bible-Apocrypha-Leathersoft-Comfort/dp/0310454778 .

Where you did find your information on the variations that where not in NKJV?
@RGrantJones5 жыл бұрын
John - I've just been reading about textual criticism lately. I made notes when I came across interesting variations and discovered that some of them aren't in the NKJV notes. One book I read several times is John William Burgon's _Revision Revised._ But I could have found them in any number of books or web sites, like James Snapp's blog (www.thetextofthegospels.com/), other blogs, and various groups on Facebook.

To much ghosting. You can see writing from previous page. You would think a journaling bible would use better paper that does not blend through.
