I learned from the deafblind guy who taught Braille at an organization where I used to work that it's much better to use little rubber duckies with a flat bottom surface instead of tennis balls, or any other kind of balls, in the muffin tin. Because when they roll off and bounce away he couldn't hear where they went. And even if you can hear where they went why would you want to spend all your time searching for them - especially if you are blind or low vision. Plus, the rubber duckies had little round heads, so they made good muffin tin braille dots, too.

My notes/personal take: A: Apple B: bat C: car D: detour E: exit or empty gas tank pointer F: F-shape (dots 1,2,4) G: gas or full square (dots 1,2,4,5) H: house w/chimney or letter h shape I: ice cream (opposite of E) J: J-shape Letter associations: AKU = Alaska University (Apple => school) BLV = bee love CMX = CarMaX DNY = DeNY or Detour --> NY (New York) EOZ = Exit to OZ FP = The FP (movie) or similar shaped letters GQ = similar shaped letters (both look like Braille shape too) HR = Human Resources IS = the word “is” JT = JeT Others: W: sideways W Numbers: dots 3,4,5,6 (everything except 1,2 is how I remember) End of numbers: dots 5,6 (kind of like the opposite of 1,2 is how I remember... idk but it seems to work) Nelson is the boss, thanks so much! I mentioned this in another comment, but the letter associations is something that I’ve never seen before in a Braille tutorial and it helps *so much* with being able to quickly determine which letter goes to what. Something that’s slightly related: the letters in the word EJOTY are the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, and 25th in the alphabet, so you can use that little mnemonic word to help you determine what number any letter in the alphabet is.

Just downloaded the Braille Academy app and did levels 1-5 fairly easily thanks to this video and the helpful reference notes in one of the other comments. Most of my mistakes so far have simply been my brain being too quick on the trigger Eg. sometimes going ‘Bee!’ instead of getting to the next bit with ‘Bee LoVe’ and entering L or V instead. So even when I make mistakes the foundational knowledge is still solid. I do like that so far the app hasn’t had a timer on things rushing me, which means I can also take my time and reference the video’s comment reference notes when a new letter combo appears. Repeating the key words/references out loud as I enter the answer also helps it stick.

Making a story out of letters is actually how we solve Rubik's cubes blindfolded! Each edge "sticker" on the cube has a position labeled with a letter A-X, and the same with corners. Pick an edge to start with and figure out the sequence in which you need to swap edges until all edges are solved, and move on to the corners. We remember the sequence by remembering the letters each sticker is associated with and coming up with a short story. Often we'll also employ the same strategy you used when describing how different letters belong to a subset based on shape and indicator dots on the bottom: pair up the letters and make them into one word that's easy to remember.

I am sighted, and I picked up Braille because I designed an application to read email and web pages over the phone, which was marketed to the blind. I had a Braille documentation book done for my application and got interested in learning Braille from seeing my documentation transcribed. Learning Braille made me realize what it's like to not be fully literate, because I find that I see words one letter at a time in Braille, rather than having them automatically come together real fast when I read print.

G is gangster in a group of four. H is a mirrored J, and J is J. K are snake eyes. L is lowercase L. M is two dots top, one dot below, mirrored with U. N is Arrow Pointing Right Up, and Z is Right Down. O is omega inside the triad. P is an upside down V. Q is literally P. R is R in dot form, and W is mirrored. S is an unfinished R. T is Tetris. Love how you are taking memory techniques to tackle new skills for fun and learn. I've been wondering, if muscle memory is really brain memory, then; shortcuting initial memory acquisition using memory techniques can leave us with more brain power to focus on practice rather than trying hard to remember what the next step of something is. I think you could demonstrate this by making a video series on acquiring a new skill like piano or guitar or asl but with a buddy who doesn't use memóry techniques. And try to Guage when the skill becomes routine for you VS the friend. You do have a leg up in braille, asl and cubing so maybe piano or flying an fpv drone in acro mode.

That was an awesome video. I love little things like this to quickly learn something one might think (or be told) isn't easy or quick to learn. Even if you don't learn it the whole way, in 12 minutes, the huge progress is enough. It's like 20% expected effort for 80% memorization. Let me propose a slight improvement on the story (as a reminder that everyone should do this to personalize or make it easier to remember). You're about to eat an Apple but your sibling/friend "threatens" with the Bat and then whacks it away. You immediately get in your Car to chase after your precious acor-- I mean, apple, but you're forced to take a Detour onto the highway. You take the first Exit out, but see you're low of Fuel, so you give up and go get Gas, then head Home. No apple, so you get some Ice cream, but then you feel guilty and go for a Jog. And once you have that story, you can add the other details in. You two were at AK U, you Both Love Bees, you got your Car at CarMaX, the Detour was just there to Deny you, Exit should have been Ee-o-zy, barely and inconvenience (or was the End Of your Zen, etc.), Fuel to Fill uP, GQ mag at Gas station, HaiRy Home or Home needs Repair, I Scream for Ice cream, and when you Jog you jog fast to keep up with a distant Jet, and We Were going West.

I taught the alphabet to my daughter in one evening by using 6 magnetic marbles in each hand, doing a mirror image of each letter's dots in the cell by touching them with the thumbs. That way you learn how to read them by the position in left hand, and write them by the position of the right hand....since we were writing with a slate and stylus...you have to punch from left to right across the page (forming the letters bacwards)and when you turn the paper over, read it right to left. with the letters now apearing forwards.SUPER BRAIN INTEGRATION EXPERIENCE!
