I happily backed this and am getting the core game and expansions. I've been wanting to play Nemesis since I found out about it after the original Kickstarter finished but could not bring myself to buy it from Ebay or Amazon. I had Nemesis and sold it. Not because I didn't like the game, but it was to an enthusiastic teacher who was running a board game club with his students as a fun way to learn. I never needed to sell it but I wasn't playing Nemesis very often due to a huge amount of new games at the time. Now I am struggling with the dilemma of the current opportunity to get Nemesis back on my shelf. It is expensive and takes up a lot of room, but I think the game is pretty unique and I have a gaming group who might really enjoy it.

Did not pledged for Nemesis: Lockdown. I backed Nemeses Core Box with all the gameplay add-ons (love the game) and as an average one-evening-a-week player I assume replayability for me is there for many years. Do not need new content and new races even with new great mechanics. Same as not interested at all in buying The 7th Citadel since have full gameplay for The 7th Continent (love it even more) and it will do the job for many years.

To be honest... I didn't know (or play) the original Nemesis, but I just trusted all the hype itself, and I just did the "Lockdown Gameplay All-in" Pledge. In my defense, I can say I LOVED Nemesis theme (Aliens), general production, the figures, the mechanics of the game (although I found it, maybe too much, longer than I'm used to for a board game) and one VERY important thing for me: can be completely done in Spanish!!! So... like I did with Hel: The Last Saga, I just jumped in!!!

I think the 7th Continent aftermarket price was more effected due to the Classic retail edition. Majority of content made available for a fraction of the price (~$59). If that didn’t happen you’d see much higher aftermarket prices.

BoardGameCo it’s always been “in retail” now but impossible to find a copy, so we’ll see to what extent how available it is in retail in the future. Im comparing this to CMON games and their exclusives, since the Aftermath/Carnomorph/Medic are significant gameplay exclusives. Hopefully being in retail in the future is different than it is now, and if it really becomes available to purchase then I totally agree with you.

Should be noted: they announced that all Lockdown pledges will now receive a digital copy of a "Nemesis" game (assuming on Steam). I do not believe it's a direct port of the board game, but some sort of 30-40 min online game that's narrative driven in some way. They're valuing it at $20 MSRP which is standard, so there's probably $15 back if you sell the code straight up. For me, I'm getting $20 more out of the campaign as I'm an avid gamer, both digital and physical spaces. Just something to update for your value proposition.

Gabé Logan finding good influencers who can clearly show the game to prospective buyers will help quite a bit. I guess the biggest struggle for first timers is to be seen, specially if your project is not flashy (100+ miniatures, unicorns jumping out the screen, etc). It might be fun, it might be interesting, but you need something to bring ppl in, and that costs money. Board gamers will look for previews in known channels, but u can also attract light gamers with targeted ads. If you are concerned with looking valuable, KS Exclusives or being entirely KSE makes a difference. If ppl can buy it later for less, your campaign will have low value. Watch other videos from the "Should you back it?" series and you will see some details about how some backers take decisions, specially those long in KS. In any case... what you should do will HIGHLY depend on what you are selling :) Good luck

Depends. Haven’t seen the game at retail in the US, just price gouging on eBay. So in the US probably not. Still the core box bundle is worth it as you have 4x the game play: core; core + aftermath; core/void seekers; core + aftermath/voidseekers. I have the core bundle from the first KS, but my son loves the game and have been trying to get another copy ever since. So I’m getting the Core Bundle for him, and Lockdown for me $245. No interest in the Carnimorphs so not doing the All-In... At the cheapest the core game lists for $120 (out of stock everywhere). If you do your Lockdown All-In plan ($75 less than the Nemesis All-In), please let me know where you can get the core box new at less than $75! I’ll do the same!
@robinrising99294 жыл бұрын
the game is going to retail for no less than $100 with a huge discount, and probably not be well stocked in the US. that makes it arguably better to grab the lockdown core and nemesis core for $20 more than the all in lockdown.

We are going to like it and the reason I was thinking on the all in was just to have more aliens, characters and different ways to make it much more replay-able, but days are passing and I am thinking a lot on what to do. Have the money? Yes.. does it impact on my life if I got all in? No.. is it worth it to get all this content? I do not know.. with lot of games at home and some with lots of scenarios, I feel I never will play all of it (example: Conan.. I have played 4 scenarios out of the 25+ we have and never read the campaign book, same happens with other games).. so well.. I was thinking on the prices at retail, the first campaign was like 100 eur including shipping and the retail in Spain is 150 EUR (130 if you find a nice deal), so it is almost impossible to get all the ks content for the price it is on the campaign but.. do I need all this shit? You can see kind of what happened with Sheol using the same manufacturer. Nemesis and all it's stretch goals and sheol's base pledge actually have the same number of minis at around the same price. --- Nemesis definitely not going to hit 2x prices after this. retail is going to hit $100 if they meet demand, and then you've got the two stretch goal boxes for $50. Nemesis lockdown looks like it's not going to have as much in it as Nemesis which is a shame. They are stretch goaling mostly core items and I doubt we're going to get 2 full expansions worth of content through the unlocks. But, we already know it'll more than likely be hard to get for over a year after it launches. -- I think 7th continent is a weird one, because a. you could sell the second set of reprint cards which was all the gameplay for cheap and b. the new cheap set of 7th continent.

@@BoardGameCo Etherfields is a big unknown other than the fact that AR can do narrative (tainted grail). The gameplay has so many new elements since the original playthrough. The best sense I get of the new stuff is there's a lot of variability to change up each play, so that certain world things like shops or game mechanics are turned off or changed. They've addressed the grind of TG with more limits to stop the game from becoming an endless cycle of resource gathering , and they've added things to address player count with a turn reserve that increases with fewer players. It at least looks like it could be interesting and like they're thinking about the right things. 150 hours in the all in though, it's got to be your JAM to get through 1/2 a gloomhaven in content.

Hey Alex, thanks for the content. I've been watching your videos for quite some time but lately I've the feeling that your KS reviews are purely based on future selling value of the games and risks associated. We are not talking about game play or why would we love this game. This channel became: will you lose money when selling this KS in two years or not? Add ons? Yes let's take them and sell them if we don't like them. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the point of watching ks reviews if we don't even talk about the game.

I find myself answering this type of comment a lot so keep an eye out for a video where I'll cover this question more in depth. For now the short answer is I love games. I want to back all of them. But I also want to pay my mortgage. And I also inevitably trade away a good portion of the games I get. So knowing if a game will hold its values gives me the freedom to back more games that I want to. It's not about a lack of love, it's about combining a love of gaming with being financially responsible.
@Dandyphonic4 жыл бұрын
@@BoardGameCo thanks for your answer and I totally understand the need to combine both. But my comment was not based on the fact you talk about game value in your video. Not at all. The point was that in the video, by focusing on price and value, you do not talk about the game anymore. Compared to videos łike the one you made for tanares for example, where you also talk about what the game is, why you back it, why you will love it, etc. Have a good day and thanks for the video.

@@Dandyphonic ah I gotcha. It depends on what I can add. If I've played the game I can add a lot more information. Nemesis isn't a game I've played yet.
@sedraniM4 жыл бұрын
I came here to get information about the game, like what could Nemesis Lockdown do better than Nemesis? Or should you go for Nemesis or the Lockdown Standalone? Should you get it now or wait for retail? What can you possibly miss, when waiting for retail? None of this questions were covered, which disappointed me. It's a 18 minutes video talking about money and the market, not about the boardgame and it's content or mechanics at all. Are you actually playing boardgames or are you a collector/buyer/reseller that tries to make money with those products?
@BoardGameCo4 жыл бұрын
If you're new to this channel, I focus on the value aspect of Kickstarters and not the gameplay. I'm a gamer first and foremost, I log over 700 plays a year and if you watch my other videos, you'll see my passion for gaming come through. But because I like backing Kickstarters, as in several a month. I like to ensure I'm not throwing money down the drain. So I focus on whether a game will hold it's value before I back it. Not so that I can resell...I said pretty clearly in the video I don't back games specifically to sell them. But rather so that I can resell them IF I don't like them.
@sedraniM4 жыл бұрын
@@BoardGameCo Thanks for clarifying! This wasn't criticism at all. There should be a place to talk about those things too, because it is a big business after all! I just wasn't expecting such a "market real talk" at all, when i read the title of this video and clicked on it. I'll check out your other videos then!

Great Video as usual! My friends like Nemesis, but it just wasn't for me. There's more "experience" than gameplay in my opinion and I will only play this if my friends get a copy.

Totally agree. For me that doesn't bother me, sometimes a great gameplay experience can be enough for me.

If you back Kickstarters to make money you should really look into these things called stocks, you'll earn actual money, not pocket lint. Trying to earn money on Kickstarters is just inherently a really bad idea.
@cyclemadness4 жыл бұрын
Same with just about any collectibles. I saw one of those shows where they have a guys collection on there and he's talking about how much this and that figures are worth from the 70's. My first thought was, what if he'd bought stock in Apple instead?
@BoardGameCo4 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's why I don't back games to resell as I discuss in my video. At the same time I back a lot of Kickstarter and want to ensure that they can be resold if I don't like them. It's the difference between buying houses to flip them, vs just trying to make sure you don't pay 20k more than your house is worth for if/when you want to move later.

@@BoardGameCo Yep. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the video and value estimations. Getting your money back, or more, on a KS is certainly a valid consideration to make when backing.

BoardGameCo thanks for your reply. What are the pros of backing the original Nemesis if you can get it sooner and cheaper in a few weeks/months from retail? You might say the expansions - but wouldn’t it be best backing the Lockdown game + the expansions in that case? Or just getting the expansions as add-ons?
@defiantj9754 жыл бұрын
I had to go for the Lockdown All in. I was gonna go for just the Lockdown but after seeing the resale prices of the expansions, I'd rather have them, not want them and sell them than not have them, want them and have to pay crazy high prices for them.

Exactly. All in is easy for me...either resell for a profit, or have everything I want without paying scalper prices.

My problem with this kickstarter is that they've decided to include the backers in designing what the aliens will look like. This should've been done long before the campaign started and will just lead to issues like the intruder-with-a-walking-stick or the boring looking void seeders.

So glad you did this for my most anticipated game on KS! But I had FOUR commercial interruptions in just an eighteen-minute video. Seems extreme. Although two for my least favorite human on earth (Trump) made it particularly distasteful for me. I will probably stop watching these great videos if there is this much commercial activity or if I have to see Trump ads. I hope this was an exception.

@@BoardGameCo To each his own I guess! But take the Amiibo hype from 4 years back for example. I just wanted ONE FRIKKING GANONDORF. For a standard price. Some people bought 10 or 20. Not because they care about that figure 10 or 20 times more as me, but only to make a profit of those like me who were to slow to buy ONE at a regular price in the store. That reaaaaaally pisses me off. I've seen Amiibos being sold for over 100 euros when the standard price was 15. It's something I will never support and I don't want to join the dark side either, I don't care how easy it is to do. I want everyone who wants one copy of something, to be able to just go out and buy it.
