If you're on a 1000 mile ride you might want to bring an 8 ounce squeeze bottle of extra oil. But for day to day rides there's no reason to bring more oil. How much oil you use depends on riding conditions.

I guess this is primarily for chain to sprocket wear/friction on a sealed chain. I can't see how it effectively lubes between the inner and outer plates, with the distribution being in the center of the rollers. It'd be nice to see a brush or delta shaped end for complete coverage of the chain.

Oil drips on and flies straight off all over your bike.genius.
@davidpetersen55312 жыл бұрын
Chris - I wanted to reply and tell you not to be a know-it-all, but I thought that was too harsh so instead I'll try to explain things clearly, so even a genius like you can understand them. . When you use heavy weigh gear oil in the Nemo there's minimal "oil sling". Oil doesn't fly off and cover your bike like you claim. You see small droplets on the rear rim, but from years of personal experience and from the feedback of thousands of customers those droplets are a nothing-burger. A bit of soap and water, or some Simple Green will remove the droplets in seconds. . Even an o-ring chain will sling a few droplets as the factory-applied internal lube squirts past the o-rings. So either way you're going to get droplets of oil on the rear rim, it's just a fact of life. The only way to avoid droplets is to go with a belt-drive or shaft-drive system. . You also made another comment (which you must have deleted): "Complete waste of time,chains are grease sealed,chain only needs a wipe with oil to stop corrosion, acf50 no rust." . Here's where your bias (or ignorance) shines thru. Yes, o-ring chains are internally lubricated and there's no way that any external lubrication will reach the chain's inner pins because of those o-rings. However, external lube (from the Nemo) does serve a significant purpose because it lubricates the side links AND the outer rollers AND the sprocket teeth. When the outer rollers and sprocket teeth are regularly lubed this significantly increases both chain and sprocket life. Running the chain "dry" without external lube will cost you money in the long run. . As for using ACF50, that product is nothing more than a rust inhibitor. It's akin to WD40 which does the same thing. Neither product contains the high friction, high sheer strength lubrication compounds needed to handle the loads carried by chains and sprockets. . If you look at a "dry chain" (o-ring with no external lube) you will often see that over time the chain will develop a number of small "kinks". That's caused by a lack of lube between the outer links and the points where they are riveted to the rollers. Put the bike on the centerstand and spin the wheel and you'll notice quite a bit of rolling friction because of that dry chain. Then apply some gear oil to the chain and spin it again... you'll immediately notice that those kinks disappear and the wheel now spins much easier. The external lube has done its job. . Whether you use chain lube from an aerosol can, or lube from an oiling system like the Nemo or the Scot Oiler, your chain will thank you.
@LATAMbiker4 жыл бұрын
How can the O/X rings get lubed if the drops of oil are going on the rollers? Wouldn't the inner plates prevent the oil from getting to the O/X rings? And if you positioned it alternately over one side of the chain, how would the fluid get to the O/X rings on the other side of the chain? Thx.
@bestrestproducts6484 жыл бұрын
Hydraulic pressure ignores uphill and downhills. . Oil never gets INSIDE the O-ring or X-ring. Instead, the oil lubricates the contact points between rollers and sprocket teeth. PLUS it lubes the side plates... . As the sprocket spins the lube distributes where needed. . You're obviously over-thinking this lubrication concept.
@LATAMbiker4 жыл бұрын
@@bestrestproducts648 I'm just curious about how the O/X rings would get lubricated if the oil is dropped on the rollers, or only on one side of the chain. I know the oil isn't going to get inside the O rings, but the O rings themselves should be lubricated.
@bestrestproducts6484 жыл бұрын
@@LATAMbiker if the oil is dropped on the roller it will dissipate laterally, then centrifugal force causes it to move outward as the chain goes around the sprockets. You're overthinking this process. If you saw my chain you'd know that the lube reaches all parts of the chain.

Good afternoon friend, great video. Please ask a question. I have a nemo 2 and it doesn't stop dripping, even closing the lid and body tightly. I've already checked the valve underneath and it's tight. Do you know how to solve this? Thanks
@bestrestproducts6482 жыл бұрын
Things that can cause dripping: . 1. The hose is damaged and/or the hose is not fully seated into the pinch clamp at the bottom of the reservoir. 2. If the hose is coming off the bottom of the reservoir at an angle, that can allow air to enter the system - make sure the hose coming straight out of the bottom. 3. When it drips it's almost always because you're not following the proper fill-up protocol... 4. Reservoir must be level - if the bike is on the sidestand or tipped to one side then #5 won't work 5. During the FINAL fill-up, bring the oil level all the way up to the top of the o-ring, almost to the point where the oil is overflowing, then and only then screw on the cap - hold the main body with one hand as you screw down the cap, otherwise the body will turn as you tighten the cap... 6. If you don't do #5 then what you're doing is trapping air above the oil level, and as you screw down the lid the air acts as a pressure bubble and that will cause the oil to drip. . The Nemo works on the principle that the oil won't move down the hose unless it's pushed along by force. Every time you turn the body that forces oil down the tube. But when there's a bubble of pressurized air on top of the oil then the oil will slowly drip out the hose.

I leveled the NEMO with it straight, as if it was in motion and automatically, when it stands still, the NEMO is uneven. @bestrestproducts6485 жыл бұрын
With oring chains its difficult to get any lube past the seals on the outer links. Oil in the middle will lubricate the rollers and the sprocket teeth. The spinning of the chain around the sprocket will help work the oil into where it's needed.

@@hcashmore11 You can do it that way. I prefer to let it drop onto the rollers.
@bestrestproducts6484 жыл бұрын
If you put the oil tube on one the side of the sprocket that's OK. Oil will spread to the outside of the chain, on one side. I like to drop it on the rollers so it will get to both sides of the chain. Centrifugal force will spread things out. Since the oil's dripping on the rollers, the spinning motion causes the oil to migrate to both sides. There's a bit of a misconception about lubing a chain. The o-rings or x-rings do a pretty good job of sealing - they prevent internal lube from coming out, and prevent external lube from going in. There is an advantage to oiling the side links and the roller faces. A bit of lube here and a bit there will spread around and lube the contact points between roller and sprockets, and the surfaces where the side links meet the cover plates. Bottom line - any lube, anywhere on the chain is a good thing.

bestrest products, Hi, I would like to know if the oil will free flow if the cap is open? I got a unit. When testing without the hose in it, the poured oil immediately drips out the bottom ( where it connects to the hose ) Is that normal?
@bestrestproducts6485 жыл бұрын
If the cap is off (or loose), oil will flow. That's normal. The way the system works is simple: oil remains in the line and the reservoir until pressure is applied by screwing down the cap. Once pressure is stopped, oil stops flowing. Think of it a syringe... the fluid only goes out the needle when you push the plunger. When you fill the Nemo it's important to fill it all the way to the top, until it's up to the o-ring. If you have it half full, when you close the cap you're compressing the air in the reservoir as you screw the cap. That pressure will cause the oil to flow when you dont want it.

"Several on the forums" don't know what they're talking about. If the Nemo is leaking oil it's because the user didn't fill it properly. Plain and simple, end of story. This product has so many drawbacks when compared to the Scottoiler. The Scottoiler is fully automatic, operating only and always when the engine is running. It has a fully adjustable flow-rate and can be mounted down to 60 degrees from the vertical due to its cylindrical reservoir. It has 2 alternative optional magnum reservoirs, giving 3000 miles range. The original vacuum (v) system is comparably priced to this one and is fitted by BMW as their preferred option. Scottoiler really is the best design and execution and I have yet to see someone do better.
@bestrestproducts6486 жыл бұрын
TheRunereaper - sounds like you're a paid marketing hack working for Scottoiler. Which explains the tone of your message. Which means your post is without merit. The Nemo is a great little product that does the same job as the scottoiler, but at a fraction of the price. The Nemo is easier to install, doesn't require vacuum lines or electrical wiring, and it only oils when you want it. The scottoiler makes a mess because it's always dispensing lube, which is why it needs such a big reservoir. I can only assume that your post is the result of the scottoiler company feeling threatened by the Nemo.
@TheRunereaper6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to have given such offence. I have no association with Scottoiler, I'm just a biker of 50 years. I can accept the argument that the Nemo may be marginally easier to install. The tricky bits are cleaning the swinging arm well enough to keep the delivery tube mountings permanently in place and also to compensate for tube movement under shock loading. That problem is common to both and anybody with a bit of common dog can sort it out. The original vacuum system can be problematic with modern fuel injected engines but Scottoiler run a website detailing tapping points for virtually every machine on the market (KTM 390 excepted!), usually off the MAP sensor line. The price of a V system Scottoiler is $135, sometimes less, so the Nemo is a pretty hefty fraction of that, 7/8? The standard reservoir is about the same size as the Nemo, but Scottoiler supplies 2 alternative bulk storage systems for running long distances without refilling. It only oils the chain with the engine running and it lubricates it constantly. I get 25k miles out of every chain (road bike), although I usually change the front sprocket at 8k to reduce chain wear. I don't have a mess on the garage floor or the back wheel because I've got used to adjusting the flow, dependent on seasonal average temperature. I've fitted the Scottoiler on every bike I've ever had (BMW GS excepted!) and it has saved me a fortune. I can only speak as I find.

@@mgml First, I'm not a Scottoiler salesman. I'm surprised you had so much trouble, particularly as it was on all 3 bikes. I've now had 5, 4 of which I fitted myself, and never had any problem other than the useless sticky tube mounting pads which constantly came adrift if they were in the vicinity of any sign of tube flex i.e. swinging arm. Thin cable ties fixed that. I should also add that the original dual injector body was prone to leakage but they have now introduced the Scorpion which has solved all the problems. I only ever use blue oil and fill directly to the reservoir without using the neoprene attachment. Faster, easier and no leakage. I've only ever used the vacuum type and cannot comment on the electronic version. Good luck with your Cobra, auto chain oiling is the way to go. Depends on your perspective... the Scottoiler is always lubing as long as the bike is running, and that can lead to too much oil and that means messy overspray.
