My sister had Nena's music cassette. It was 1983 and we lived in a small steel town in East Germany, and a concert like Nena's here was light years away for us. At that time, the Austrians built a converter steelworks in the factory. Music from the West was hard to come by. In our city you could see western cars everywhere that belonged to the Austrians. We stole the car plates and stickers from the cars. We sold some at school. I'm not proud of it, but these cars had a very special appeal for us because we had never seen such cars in real life before. In 1983 I was 14 and just starting to get more and more interested in music. I often listened to my sister's Nena cassette back then. Whenever I hear these old Nena songs today, I have to think back to that time. In 1984 I fell completely into punk music😁. Even though it wasn't always easy for us behind the Iron Curtain, I still look back on that time with fondness.

But who knows?
@user-jd9wr3uo6c Жыл бұрын

I was 19 in 83 and I'm with you, I wouldn't trade my 80's youth for anything. As far as music goes it was a golden age for sure. There were so many great bands and such a wide variety of music all of which you could hear on the radio. Radio stations and their playlists or so cookie cutter and rigid now it's gotten ridiculous. It's funny, I'd made this comment in the past and someone responded to me with the perfect comment, they said "who listens to the radio anymore?" I was...hmm, good point :)

For me as a 9-year-old who came to Germany from a Yugoslavian village in September 1983, this song was a comfort, a promise that the spring of 1984 would be wonderful - it was the modernity I wanted to encounter. Spring came and summer also passed, but nothing happened, nowhere did I find a reference to my expectation, to images and feelings that such songs triggered in me. I found no relation to the balloons floating in the air. Then in the fall of 1984 I went to a field, a light fog hovered in the air, it was mystical; the black earth felt so soft in my child's hands, it was a profound encounter and a friendship that lasts to this day.

Navel gazing white women. Every little act abroad is a sign of women's freeeedumb. Just stop shaving and stop acting like it's radical you britches, that's what I say.

RIP Carlo. 😔
