Wow, Francois. I had to do a double take when I saw the title of this video. What a privilege to own a copy of that game as there cannot be that many legitimate copies left in existence, especially in that condition. I am really surprised you actually found someone who would sell it to you. Owning both a JPN and US version of that game is a rare privilege that few will ever enjoy. Congratulations!

Jean-François Amadei Take this with a mighty large grain of salt. The collector who sold me my authentic JPN Metal Slug said the initial production run was about 500 JPN and 250 USA, so that should give you an idea. 99% of what you see are fakes as you know.

Incredible pickup. Congratulations! When it comes to US AES collecting, while it's probably not the rarest game in print, it probably feels like it because what few copies are out there are held tightly by collectors who probably have no intentions of giving them up. It's also one of the most bootlegged and converted carts there is... and the fraudulent copies just keep getting harder and harder to be distinguished. I'm not sure what you paid for this relic, but as risky as the process would have been, I would have put it on the vendor to provide board proofs in person. If they aren't willing to produce that, I personally wouldn't take the risk. It's great you did the due diligence of checking all the other pieces, but without knowing for sure whats on the inside, you'll never know if someone down the line sold the innards for a high dollar amount and then sold the rest for a high dollar amount. I think the way you handled it was the next best thing, you did what you could, you established a relationship with the seller... and if anything hinky shows up down the line, you probably have a way of contacting them.

Thanks for your message :) Indeed, it’s a piece of history right there. Especially due to the very limited print run for this title (even more in US), that’s one of the reasons that decided me to step forward and acquire it. But I’d say the main reason here is my love for the Metal Slug franchise in general. As for the checking the boards part, yes, I did not dare to take the risk of opening the cart. Reason for which I really took time to die the due diligence on all other aspects; identity of the previous owner and history of the game (who were the successive owners etc…).

limitededitions contrairement à la collection mvs (que j’ai terminé depuis peu 🙂) metal slug aura été un des plus « simple » à trouver 😉 Pour mon dernier jeu, galère à trouver avec ses accessoires, j’ai fait un peu comme toi et ton metal slug US, pas mal de recherche... contact qui en connais un autre etc... pour arriver au final avec une personne que je connaissait 😄 (version courte!)

When compared to the official Marco illustrations this label looks suspect (mainly his eyes). It has some general quality issues. Perhaps they simplified the art for the US label but the print quality overall does not look great.

I’m guessing it would be hard to top this. Except on a rarity point of view with a euro Ultimate 11 or Kizuna Encounter. But again, these games are nice but in my opinion don’t have the cult status of Metal Slug 🤩

I totally agree mate, when ever I think about SNK and Neo Geo, the game that is always at the forefront of my mind is Metal Slug. It was the first game that I ever saw running in the little independent arcade shop opposite my house in the UK in the early 90s, and had me hooked ever since. I have Metal Slug 1,2,X,3 and 4 for MVS, and am really happy to have them...I still need to find number 5 though, which unfortunately has jumped in price :( Good luck on your next purchases/pickups :)

Je te confirme que si tu arrives à trouver un exemplaire original en bon état, complet, sans fade, aujourd’hui tu peux le vendre pour 30’000€. Ça paraît indécent mais ça reflète le degré de motivation des collectionneurs acharnés. Pour te dire en l’espace de 2 semaines après l’avoir acheté, fin juin 2020, j’avais déjà 2 propositions de rachat pour 30 tickets. C’est complètement fou.

Well i bought one new when it came out for 600 DM and sold it for 2700€ in 2004. I also sold other rare games over the years. I dont really miss em and dont regret selling them. Even the prices are way higher now. I stopped collecting in 2000 because prices for new games in germany was 1000DM and the last two i did buy was Metal Slug 3 and KoF2k. I did not like KoF2k and prices where just to high to buy games i dont like. Aside from that there was always emulation and nowadays flashcarts that play every game offical released. Anyway have fun with it.

No way you can say it is legit without seeing PCBs. I could care less if the insert/manual are legitimate. If the rom chips aren’t genuine you threw away money. It is not difficult to open the cart and verify authenticity but to each their own.
