I’m getting one of these RGB modded consoles for my 14L5 Sony PVM. The colors are going to be out of this world 🌎

Really nice and easy to follow mod work! The Unibios install is nightmare if you don't have good tools and aren't very careful. The heat gun is the step I skipped last time. Only pulled two small traces that were easy to patch. I ended up having to bypass the sync from the CXA chip altogether because it didn't work with the Framemeister for some reason, and ended up using the TTL sync with some attenuation instead. One note: please put the console on a soft cloth when turning it over to open it, so it doesn't get scratched.

Thanks, glad that you enjoyed the video! The heat gun really helps to remove a chip with no issues. I try to be careful but it’s a fair point regarding the cloth

There's usually no need to add solder to joints before desoldering them. I only do it on joints that refuse to desolder on the first try, which is rare. Adding solder when it isn't necessary is just adding an extra heat cycle to the pads and the chip, and it's best to keep their heat exposure as brief as possible in order to get the job done, which minimizes the risk of heat damage. For the record, I used to work in a PCB factory soldering on an assembly line, and I also did a lot of rework there. I soldered literally millions of joints while working there, and desoldered thousands.

Do you know if the NeoSD Pro works with RGB Bypass? I heard it doesn't get enough voltage if preformed.

Good video. I’ve seen HDMI moded AES units for sale on ebay, how different is that than this RGB mod?
@LIRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how those hdmi mods are done. If it’s a pure digital to digital mod then the quality should be about the same but there are other ways of doing an hdmi mod where the quality would be much worse

Amazing work! Have you worked on a 3-6 board for the RGB bypass yet? I have mine Id like to work on but I'm also not sure what the best method is. Thanks!

Hello. I just bought NEO GEO AES from japan and when i turn it on there is broken video, no sound. I dont know if you can give me an advice when to look to fix it. Thank you

Which revisions do you think have the best rgb output?
@LIRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the earlier versions have the best RGB. But with the bypass mod they all look outstanding

Thanks for the video Long Island Retro Gaming. How can you do this mod while still keeping the composite video? Is it possible? Thanks in advance.
@LIRetroGaming2 жыл бұрын
If you don’t do the RGB bypass you can still get composite video. However the RGB quality might not be as good
@ner380732 жыл бұрын
@@LIRetroGaming I see. So it is one or the other, right? I mean, I want to do the RGB mod since I do have a CRT with the proper cables. I have seen some ebay listings where the seller claims he did a rgb bypass while still keeping composite video. I will look more into it. Thanks for your reply and here you have another subscriber to your channel.

Very nice video! I did the rgb mod on my aes 3-6 using this video, but the image is yellow/green now (super sharp though, that definately improved). I’m using a genesis 1 scart cable; would you perhaps know what could be wrong?
@LIRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! I think the problem is the cable that you are using. Those Genesis cables have extra components in them to further process the signal, and the Neo Geo does not need any of that stuff. My suggestion is to get one of those cables from insurrection industries that are specifically made for Neo Geo and you should be all set!
@GarmrNL3 жыл бұрын
@@LIRetroGaming Thanks for the reply! Will let you know if that did the trick :-)

@@LIRetroGaming Thanks for the reply! I actually found the problem; the resistor for the B channel didn’t connect well; after reflowing the solder it works and the image looks super crisp :-) I ordered a new scart cables aswell so I can keep my Genesis connected instead of switching back and forth with my AES. Thanks again and you have a new subscriber!

ok ok .. i have a aes i tried to do this to.. and the bios chip now installed wont work .. messed up graphics.. needs to be sent in for fixing...
@LIRetroGaming3 жыл бұрын
That’s unfortunate and I’m sorry that happened. Removing the original chip can be tricky and my guess is that some of the connections on the board were damaged when the chip was removed

I have a JAMMA arcade cocktail with vertical layout. Can any of this be swapped out with that? If not, what are some JAMMA boards I can buy other than the say 412 that can offer the BEST of what a cocktail table can do (2 person table...currently no track ball installed....just buttons) Thanks for the higher end details on gaming. Maybe I'll have to buy a solder gun. :)
@LIRetroGaming Жыл бұрын
If you use something like mister or jamma pi, you can get a lot more games that are compatible with a cocktail cabinet like the one you have. It can be tricky to get multiple games working with that style of cabinet but they are awesome
@mrtmiller7993 Жыл бұрын
@@LIRetroGaming Thanks. Never done any rapberry pi builds, but if you have or know of a good link to walk through this gaming process, I'd be down to give it a shot. I repair pinball machines and play competitively, but this video stuff is just a 1 off for a home unit I picked up that is currently just a 60 in 1 cocktail machine.
@Charlie-Cat.3 жыл бұрын
Hello, do you do other repairs on the Neo-Geo AES as well?
