Gotta try it myself one day, has some of the coolest versions of classic characters (NESTs Kyo and Mr Karate Ryo) plus a bunch of weirdos and sick but obscure looking dudes like Ashura

Was this the one with OG Athena as the final boss? I vaguely recall hearing about this game and do enjoy hearing about some of these more forgotten games. 0:56 - An odd one indeed; it came out in the US for the PS2 whilst the PS3 was about. I mean, there were a fair few games that did that but they often released on other systems and not just the PS2 (a Wii port could have been pretty cool given most the SNK Wii games are just collections). 2:32 - Agreed; I love when some of the more obscure or unconventional IPs get the spotlight in these mashup fighters. 4:32 - The encouragement to tag out often does sound pretty thrilling. 6:43 - I was about to question your mention of Mizuchi as an original character when you brought up Orochi. Somehow with my very little knowledge of SNK, I immediately I'd seen a character very similar to that plenty of times before. Are there character specific arcade endings or are they absent as well?

You're half-correct; OG Athena (AKA Princess Athena) does appear in this game, but as a regular character; she was a boss in SVC Chaos.

This game gets a lot of undue criticism imo. I actually think it’s one of SNK’s best 2D fighters they made. It’s surprisingly honest and footsie based fir a tag fighter. Lots of neutral play with very few combos. If you’re expecting gameplay very similar to Marvel 2 or CvS2 this isn’t it. The roster is way more diverse than you gave it credit for tbh.

Most SNK fans do like this game though? It was more so of a little fun side project for them at the time so nobody expected it to be anything mindblowing, it plays good and has a great roster so I'd say it does the job pretty well.

Admittedly, I'm not super into SNK fighters due to mainly being brought up by Capcom fighters, so my lack of experience could have had something to do with my experience with the game. Another note I'd like to mention is that when I say 'weird', I don't mean it in a bad way, rather, something that is obscure/unknown to most. Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is a weird game to me because it's a relatively unknown tag fighter to most, and that's why I wanted to cover it. I still like the game, and I certainly don't think it's bad, but it's not the best tag fighter I've ever played, you feel me?

@@khanage1344 Yeah like I said it's nothing mindblowing and when talking about SNK tag fighters everyone always defaults to KOFXI anyways, I'm mostly referring to how critics slammed the game cause they expected too much out of it but most players still look at this game favorably for what it is.

NGBC should've been split into two games: One called *NEO•GEO Battle Coliseum* still, but with fighters from KOF, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, World Heroes, etc. And a prequel called *NEO•GEO Swordclash Coliseum* where it contains fighters from Samurai Shodown, The Last Blade, Sengoku Denshou, Fu'un, etc.
