I just purchased mine over the weekend and super excited to add it to my collection. My only complaint (pre purchase) is that there are 35 fighting games and they left off great Neo Geo games like Mr.Do and Windjammers. I really hope there will be the ability in the future to purchase more games.

So serious question: with Violence on - are you forced in Japanese mode? Or can you still select: Mvs/ console modes Change languages (in game) - not for the system.

Console Kits just to give you some Background on my question. So selecting a Japanese bios - generally opens up any censorship that was present in European and us releases (console and arcade). So I was just curious if they simply activated a Japanese bios to turn “violence” On. Also - do you receive the 1upweekly emails? Or is there a way to contact you? ;)

I think many would've liked to see a more diverse list of Neo Geo games on offer, but I can't deny, the 50 games included are well worth the price of admission (at least for me). And with so many good reviews out on it, I'm getting one :) I think no matter what 50 games were chosen, there are just too many great Neo Geo games that someone would be disappointed by the line-up. Even though SNK gave their blessing on this I think Unico is working with a standard set of licenses that they use for their multiple fight sticks and plug and play units. This particular selection of games includes 7 complete libraries which I feel is important for continuity. We were hoping for available game packages for download from Unico. If it depends on community outcry I am not sure how well that will go. Although the unit is currently sold out.

How's the button layout affect the game play ? Didn't the neo geo only have 4 buttons as shown at each game's startup screen?

Wu Gawd yeah the button layout is different. There is an option to remake the six buttons to however you want. By default it’s the standard ABCD. What’s nice is it saves the remapping per game and it’s quick to get to that screen from a game. You can remap and you game is pause while you are in the menu.

SoulFor Sale Ordered mine direct from MVSX website on Dec 16 got it Dec 24th and only issue was had to contact them for replacement Bartop piece which arrived Jan 13th .. No complaints games run smooth and it’s my favorite go to cabinet 👍

I own a Neo AES as well as a consolized MVS, with a decent collection of carts which I have accumulated over more than two decades. There are so many other titles that could have been added, like Nam 1975 and Crossed Swords plus some good shooters. Hopefully we will be able to add games since there is room for more titles. I'd end you in World Heroes and Samurai Shodown, but I've been at it since the Neo was released in '91. I've gotten the Neo SD Pro for my AES so I have access to all of the games besides the NG Dev team homebrews.

I was told the unit will ship with the violence mode patch. But if you want future updates, simply download from their website, store on usb thumb drive, insert thumb drive into USB port of MVSx, go to System update in the MVSX menu. The unit will reboot with an update. Pretty simple!

Hi, did they fix the refresh rate issue? I believe it was at 60 initially causing the shadow issues. It looked like they were flickering still.

I know they are looking into it. I can say, what is shown in the video doesn’t represent what you see in person. I tried different settings on my camera: shutter speeds, FPS. Still I couldn’t capture it correctly. I’ll try again today.

AssertedWolf you can keep adding credits. And if you did decide to challenge yourself you can go to AES mode and you have limits.

Justin I also dig your suggestions on the speaker relocation / front board replacement. Drop in speakers with a little extra punch / base would be nice, but keep it simple and inexpensive.

I heard the MVSX monitor runs at 60 Hertz but original is a fraction less. This causes shadows to flicker as the game was designed around the timing of original hardware.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the price. Is it neat? Yeah. It also seems well made, judging by videos I've seen. But there's two major things for me that stop me from wanting one, aside from the price. One is that it's lacking in the game side of things. Yeah, it has 50 games. But there's like 10 King of Fighters, 6(?) Metal Slugs. Multiples of other fighters. Like, there's a LOT of games they could have put on this, and it's like 90% fighters, and sequels. They could have taken some of the unnecessary sequels and alt versions off and gave us some shmups instead, at least. The second issue being, it's emulation. I have the same issue with buying the mini consoles, or the 1ups. It's a neat thing to say you own, but at the end of the day, I can play all of the games on every mini console and mini cab that's out...on my Xbox, with a $40 arcade stick. It's ot as neat as playing on a cabinet, but with the right shaders and bezel borders, along with said arcade stick, it's way cheaper and you get access to thousands of games. I dunno, it's hard for me to justify spending hundreds of dollars to emulate a handful of games.

Godawful gameplay of Samurai Shodown. Sorry, had to be said. The video had better be smoother in the final product cause it looks horrible. World Heroes, by the way, is more difficult as you move on. The first rival is always child's play.

Dave some of the choppiness in the gameplay was my bad attempt of capturing LCD. I played with shutter speeds and fps, but it was difficult for me to capture. It’s much smoother in person. That being said, they are looking into tweaking/improving the emulation. Hopefully the next reviewer has better skills capturing LCD with camera. Oh, and yes I suck at fighting games 🤣

This is an easy pass for me. I don't especially care about Neo Geo games and I'm picking up an iircade because I think that has a super promising future ahead if they can pick up some bigger publishers. This looks promising, but honestly I don't see the appeal other than for major Neo Geo fans.

I was on the fence about keeping my preorder for so long (I dont typically like the all in one arcade) but then they showed real pictures of the double dragon one I order...sold! Own an MVS hardware myself. On our Podcast 1Up Weekly we cover original hardware, arcade auctions to educate options available. Yet, as sales from Arcade1Up shows (1M cabs sold) there is a market for these inferior plug in play units. Some keep as is, some use as base for original hardware mods, others use a Pi. Some pay full $500 without blinking, some wait for $200 deals.
