Gerstners thesis here, that they come in the night of paradox and ambiguity, is interesting.

Barth was a believer who didn't believe the truth revealed in Scripture? I think the problem was that Gerstner was a friend of Marcus Barth. I believe they were in school together. There is a tendency for all of us to so want to believe that our friends and family members are actually saved despite the evidence to the contrary that we discount that evidence and assert that that they nevertheless "loved' Jesus and so we hold out hope that we will see them in heaven. Believers believe, unbelievers do not. If Barth did not believe, then by definition he was an unbeliever.

I think Barth, Brunner and others are focusing on personal encounter as more important than encounter only with the nible as a subject of objective study under the assumotion that the reader doesn't know they read into it a personal understanding which may be contrary to ilumination. But his anti objectivity stance goes to far. Like thers are two bibles. The one of encounter. Which there us obviuos trurh to. But this comes through an actual objective bible inspired to provide that illumination to the individual Christian person. Thus. Its both. Existential currents run through this.. and again it the bible does provides for this as well. And personally meaningful. Best understood on in the context of war time europe. And the rise of socialistic Ideology..

In short an understanding of the word comes with the Holy Spirit and study as a personalized subject. It's also a church together that comes into illumination and interpretation. But there are many adepts. Who bring strange ideas.

If Karl Barth poured over Scripture he would find …In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth and in Romans “God’s divine nature and eternal power are clear for all too see”.They claimed to be wise but they became fools.
