“One death is a tragedy, a million deaths a statistic”
This release kind of signals the end of the beginning. It started life with a slightly gothy vibe but the arrival of Cris and Rex pushed it into a different direction.
The title came from a line in The Necromancer by William Gibson. The lyrics deal with the concept of psychic numbing and how we find it easy to empathise with the plight of one victim but as the numbers increase we suffer what’s called compassion collapse. Or, as Stalin put it “one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic”
The accompanying video is by Mike Coles. Famed for his work with Killing Joke and The Orb amongst others we were absolutely made-up when he offered to make a video for us and place the band and the song in his unique worldview.

The clarion call of the carrion crow
Taunts the flesh on the revenant bones
A cloud of ghosts, untold points of light
Suffer the savage hand, extinguished in plain sight
Chorus:
Numb to the numbers
Immune to the thunder
Thousands of futures undone
Symphonies of silhouettes
Nameless and the dispossessed
Taken by sweet sister death
The countless lost and gone
The neon dead
Faraway people, lost to the distance
A black mass of strangers, abstract and faceless
A silent extinction, drowned and unseen
In the oceans of tears for the boy on the beach
For the love of god, the veteran curse
Forsaken here, this hell on earth
We burn the pages of the atlas of our scars
An angel, beast and madman rest inside this black-eyed heart.
