I'm sorry man respectfully I disagree. But please note I know it's because I'm an old head. But you have to ubderstand the attachemnt we all have to this show. Evangellion was the first anime I ever watched. Stumbled across it by accident. One late night.I was like 10 at the time. On sbs or abc in Australia in the late 90s. I had no idea what the fuck was going on. Obviously. But because I'd never seen anything like it. from animation I was just captivated. Anything other than the orrignal dub. Is fucking jarring to me. I cannot get into it cause I cannot get past. That's not shinjis voice. I'm sure if I didn't have my attachment to the orriginal the new one would be fine. I'm sure there's probably things that are better about thus dub. But nostalgia is a painful heartstring to tug on, is all I'm saying.

I'm sure this has been dubbed differently to the way it was originally done. I'm sure the first time I saw this in the ADV dubbing, Shinji was whining much more about how his dad didn't give a shit about him until he wanted him. There was the understandable dread and fear, sure, but it was less about "How the hell do you expect me to do that?" and more about "OMG DADDY LOVE ME!!!" This version actually makes it a little more understandable that he's been confronted with a situation where it relies on him to jump in a giant robot and save the world, and Shinji is understandably like "The fuck? I literally just got here and I'm a child?!"
