It didn’t really affect much in your playthrough, but 2 things to keep in mind about Star Powers is that they trigger as soon as you get enough stars, so you can’t choose to wait, it just happens, and the damage can’t be blocked by shields.

Yeah, I didn't do this consistently at all. I am getting better at it. I'll probably record another video :)
