Thank you Dr Tala...this is going as close to baby's airway as possible to understand the aerodynamics of these two modalities. Must say, you have an immaculate style to simplify scientific concepts..😀

Should the head of the bed always be elevated when babies are on respiratory support of any kind?
@TalaTalksNICU13 күн бұрын
Generally on the ventilator and CPAP, the head of the bed is elevated (to reduce aspiration risk)

I had always wondered whether HFNC could ever create similar pressures like CPAP does by maneuvering the flow so thank you for sharing!! It was very insightful 💗 we only have ram cannulas in our nicu so it was interesting to see the difference between the mask and prongs!

I agree! Loved seeing the different effects!

This one was FUN. Very interesting. My NICU does not use Bubble or High Flow we deliver CPAP and BiPAP only via RAM cannula (the green one) Then the regular hospital nasal cannula when they graduate from that. Bit of a sore topic around my NICU cuz the ventilator will always have a high leak percentage which is very confusing

Agreed was fun! It was so interesting first time I saw it too/ like how crazy little changes affect everything! I think we’re all pretty good at accepting whatever equipment we have and just making it the best possible situation for that patient!

Thank you, Tala! Nice demonstration! I've seen some DIY bubble CPAPs with regular nasal cannulas in small rural hospitals in Tanzania and Kenya. But now I've realized that those will either function as simple HFNC or - and it's worse - can maybe do harm by causing CO2 retention? (I hope my question makes sense) Anyone with experience from low resource hospitals who are using such DIY bubble CPAP solutions?

This is a great question! Ill put this to the community to see if anyone has answers!

F&P bnCPAP closed system occlude 100% of nose, F&P HHFNC 50% occlusion-can be used to simulate cpap, RAM Cannula (CPAP) 80% occlusion, will need increased CPAP pressures to replicate desired pressures.

You’re absolutely correct as usual!

What is the reason for bleeding nose while using nasal cpap cannula?
@TalaTalksNICUАй бұрын
Irritation from the cannula/ sometimes the nose gets really dry too.

Interesting as viewing little ones needs all attention clothing little socks t- shirt should be properly for ICU RDS under that medical condition body temperature changes cough sneezing without could bring other unnecessary medical conditions other than reason being in ICU Attention alerts 😊
