안녕하세요,짐앤아웃입니다. 해당 영상은 네팔에서 인종차별 당했다는 제목으로 올라갔었던 영상입니다. 영상을 키기 전 네팔 청소년들이 동양인 인종차별에 대한 단어를 언급하며 저에게 다가오는 걸 들었습니다. 그 직후 녹화를 시작해서 영상에는 그 특정 단어가 나오지 않았고 그들이 제게 유튜버냐고 묻는 부분부터 나옵니다. ( 05:12 ) 인종차별에 해당하는 특정 단어를 녹화하지 못하고 영상에 그들이 이렇게 말했다고 한 부분, 제 불찰이라고 생각합니다. 그 후 제가 "너네 무슨 얘기하는거냐" 라고 했을 때 청소년들이 깔깔대는 장면이 나옵니다. 그 자리에 있던 저는 확실히 들었고 느꼈지만 여러 시청자분들,특히 네팔시청자분들이 "놀린거아닌데? 쟤네 너가 외국인이라서 당황해서 웃은건데?" 라고 하시는데 저는 저게 절대로 제가 외국인이라서 당황해서 웃는거라고 생각하지 않습니다. 그들은 그 단어를 말하고 나서 제가 물러나지 않고 강하게 나오니까 조롱하듯이 웃은겁니다. 누가 당황했을 때 저렇게 웃나요? 그들의 비웃음 후에 저는 "한국이 언제나 네팔보다 낫거든?" 이라는 발언을 합니다. 해당 부분에서 여러 시청자분들이 이 발언이 더 인종차별적이라고 하더군요. 저는 제가 먼저 할 생각은 추호도 없지만 상대방이 그런 발언을 하면서 다가온다? 무조건 피하고 대응 안하는게 만사는 아니라고 생각했습니다. 제가 했던 대응은 똑같이 해주는거였고요. ("니하오"라고 들었을 때 "봉쥬르"라고 하라는 대응과 같은 맥락이라고 생각했습니다) 하지만 보기 불편해 하시는 것 같아 해당 발언 부분은 삭제했습니다. 그 외에 부분은 남겨두겠습니다. 감사합니다. Jimin, be a bigger person and accept that you might have misinterpreted the situation. We can sympathise what you have felt like in that moment. If you just accept it, we’ll forget about this whole situation in a moment and keep supporting you. We want every tourists to feel safe and enjoy their stay in Nepal. Few weeks ago, one tourist was scammed by a dude, the Nepalese people rallied against him all over the internet and got him arrested by police. We Nepalese take these things seriously, had there been a chance that those guys intended to be hateful towards you, they would have already been called out by Nepalese people. Nepal is not India, and you should stop looking it with the same eyes. Haggling fruit vendors for Dragonfruit price was also uncalled for. In Nepal, it’s expensive. Don’t compare the prices with India. Nepal is nearly 2 times expensive than India due to import fees. Dragon Fruit, Coconut and other fruits don’t grow on the Himalayas. Just making excuses per excuses is arrogant. Also you replying on the bad comments from Koreans in this video just weakens your case. Saying “I fight racism with racism” is stupid. However poor, no-one wants to hear someone from another country talk shit about their country. No one chooses where they are be born, it’s pure chance that you were born in Korea while we, in Nepal. We love that you are travelling across Nepal, but please don’t be biased against Nepal just because you had some bad experience in India.

What you’re failing to understand is that literally about 50% of the population in Nepal have similar facial characteristic to Chinese/Japanese/Korean people. There’s no way those boys would have known you were a foreigner when you were just sitting there alone. So I find it extremely hard to believe that they’d have said “ching Chong cheng” before you turned on the camera. Now you tell me if a Chinese tourist was sat alone in a park in Korea, would a Korean person be able to recognise that she’s not Korean and then randomly start saying “ching Chong Cheng”? No right? why? because she’d look like any other person in korea. My point is that THEY DID NOT EVEN KNOW YOURE A FOREIGNER. I dont want to be rude, but frankly speaking you seem a bit delusional.You clearly misunderstood and your fear of being alone in an unfamiliar place made you hear things that were never said. Also remember that every country has their own language. What if part of their conversation just sounded like “ching Chong cheng”, but in reality means something else in Nepali? It’s like how the word for I and you (내가 / 니가) sounds like the cuss word “n***a” in English. How would you feel if a westerner accused some Korean of being racist because of this? At this point you’re just straight up refusing to admit that YOU MISUNDERSTOOD seeing that not once have you apologised for uploading a video with false claims of racism despite so many people leaving comments to explain what was really being said by those boys.Oh and also, you do realise you saying “Korea is better than Nepal”, that comment in itself is very CONDESCENDING and RACIST. My advise to you is, do your research before you travel to a new place next time. Of course there are bad people in every country, even in Korea you must admit that there both good and bad people. Another thing I’d like to add is how you behaved towards that fruit seller. Again, this comes down to lack of research and ignorance from your side. Dragonfruit in Nepal is not common and is considered luxury fruit, just like how mangoes are very expensive in Korea compared to other countries. You blatantly called him a liar without knowing how much fruits cost in Nepal. You keep saying that they were laughing/giggling at you, but they did that because they were flustered/embarrassed by the situation. You’re asking how can someone laugh when they are embarrassed? Well, everyone is different and deals with embarrassment differently, while you might get quieter t when embarrassed, others cope with embarrassing situation by laughing it off. You must have watched social experiments videos on KZbin of foreigners speaking in English with random Koreans in the street, half of the Koreans always burst out laughing because they are surprised as they don’t speak fluent English and don’t know how to respond. The whole time those boys were speaking to you in 존댓말 but you started swearing at them without understanding the situation fully. I can understand why you might have misunderstood the situation at first, but the fact that you still have this video up and haven’t even apologised after so many people have left comments explaining/translating what those boys said to you, is extremely disappointing. I hope you take time to reflect on this whole situation again. Research research and research before you go to new country. And obviously you only edit and delete the part where you said “Korea is better than Nepal”, cause that’ll go to show your true nature and character. How about you take this whole video down instead?

Hi Jimin. I am watching your travel vlog from USA and I saw this one where you had this uncomfortable encounter with these teenagers. Since I am Nepalese, I can understand the language. I am not writing these comments in support of those guys, nor I am trying to undermine the horrible experience that you faced. I understand that during those moments you must have felt uncomfortable and angry. All I am trying to do is explain what those guys were saying. Based upon the conversations that those guys were having they did not make any racist comments. However, they were trying to be little bit flirty at the very beginning. During this time point 5:17 he did not say "Chong Ching Chong" or any kind of racist comments towards you. I understand that it may sound or hear like that guy was saying those words but I can assure you he was asking some other guy (may be on a phone) about where he was? At 5:30, the guy who approached you was saying "Didi ( same as Noona), are you youtuber?" He must have thought your looked like Nepali, therefore he asked you in Nepali language. But when you replied in English, they laughed (not at you) because now they realized that your were a foreigner. Then one guy immediately said sorry at 5:40. After that the other was trying to explain the situation but you left saying that Korea is always better than Nepal. Well good for you for being Korean. Hope this was able to clarify the situation. They were searching for tower (network). Ching chung Ching.. (I think you have misheard it because of language barrier may be. Nepal is a mix of Indo facial people and east asian facial people. So, these words are not used. It's rare.) More info, there are words commonly used in our language which sounds similar to ching chow #$¢£ Like :- chowmein, Chowchow, Ching's masala *Chha* sound which is in Ching Chang chum (whatever). That *Chha* sound is mostly used in Nepali language. Every nepali sentence ends with that Chha sound. Like:- Khana khanu hun-chha (Will you eat some food?) Tyo ghar jan-chha (S/he will go home) You can also see Chha word in 5:54 "I can't. K Van-Chha" So, it might be misheard by you. Due to language barrier and lower understanding of Nepali language, you thought so.. Trust me, no one used "Ching Chang Chung" word because nepalese themselves face this stereotype when they travel foreign. But sorry if you feel bad/ uncomfortable. Those guys weren't disrespecting you, there was a language barrier and some words in nepali might sound like Chinese for foreigners when they listen first and they even talked respectfully at first by thinking you were nepali. And Nepalese people have more Mongolian faces here so they even thought you as a Nepali first and talked to you in nepali, after hearing English they knew that you were foreigner and just apologized you and they laughed with each other because they were embarrassed. Let me point out what happened and how you completely misunderstood the situation with those Nepalese guys: They thought you were a Nepali. The guy says "Didi KZbinr ho (Elder sister are you a youtuber?),Hajur youtuber ho? (hajur is higher form of respect in Nepali language, Are you a youtuber?)" "Hamilai ni haldinu na hami viral hunxam (Please put us on your video, and we are going to be viral *jokingly*)". The entire time they were using highest form of respect in Nepalese language when talking to you. Then you say "What are you guys talking about?" They guys immediately notice the accent, then realizes you are a foreigner not a Nepali, so they laugh for the embarrassment. The guy says "Sorry, Sorry". The guys tried to reply to you but they were not good in English. You replied "What the fuck? You guys are from Nepal, Korea is better than Nepal." Noone in Nepal says swear words while talking with random strangers. It is considered highly disrespectful. You made it sound like you are entitled and better than Nepali people because you are Korean. Yes we are from Nepal, so what, does that make us any lesser than a Korean? Also why would a Nepalese call you a Ching chong when Nepalese themselves suffer from same stereotypes? In Nepal, some people look more east asian than yourself and have higher Han-Chinese ancestry than an average Chinese. Makes no sense for those Nepalese guys to call you Ching Chong as they didn't even think you were a foreigner first. You over analyzed the situation without knowing the language. I hope you enjoy your stay in Nepal but please don't go looking for altercation when there isn't any. "ching chong chang" are words you hear mostly from European, Indian or Americans because Nepalese people use ‘bhote’ to identify some ethnic groups in Nepal/East asians translation from google 네팔 사람들은 다른 아시아 카운터를 차별하지 않으며 한국과 달리 우월한 콤플렉스를 나타내지 않습니다!! “ching chong chang"은 네팔 사람들이 네팔/동아시아인의 일부 소수 민족을 식별하기 위해 'bhote'를 사용하기 때문에 유럽 인디언이나 미국인에게서 주로 듣는 단어입니다.

안녕하세요?짐앤아웃입니다. 최근에 제 영상에 제가 오해했다고 하는 댓글이 많아서 답변 남깁니다. 저 청소년들이 제 주위에 와서 칭챙총,차이니즈라고하는걸 분명히 듣고 카메라를 켰습니다. 카메라를 든 이후에는 그 말을 하지 않더군요. 그리고 나서 저에게 유튜버냐고 물었구요. 그런데 그 직후, 제가 “What are you guys talking about ?” 했을 때 저들의 웃음이 조롱하는 웃음이라는건 부인 할 수 없어 보이네요. 네, 한 명은 분명히 “Sorry”라고도 합니다. 왜요? 저에게 유튜버라고 물은게 미안한 일인가요? 뭐가 미안하죠? 본인이 그 전에 뭐라고 한지 알기 때문에 미안하다고 한겁니다. 게다가 그 직후 제가 “You guys said chong,ching,chang like this?”라고 했을 때 왜 웃었죠?? 안했으면 안했다고 해야죠. 하지만 저를 보호하기 위해서라면,그들이 그렇게 말했을 때 바로 자리를 떴어야 되는데 그렇게 하지 못했어서 아쉽네요. 또한 앞으로는 영상에 오해의 소지가 없게 담도록 노력하겠습니다! 영상 시청해주셔서 감사합니다.

First, I started taking a video about them shortly after I heard the ching,chang,chong from them and when I started filming them,they stopped saying that. And after that,they asked me if I am a youtuber or not. And after that, I told them ”What are you guys talking about?” And they started really mocking me and laughing teasingly as you can see. And one of them said “Sorry”. You guys can’t deny that their laughing sounds snickering obviously and at the same time,why do you think the boy said sorry to me? Do you guys seriously think he felt sorry about asking me you are youtuber or not? He said “sorry “because he knew what he did. Moreover, I said ”You guys said ching,chong,chang like this?“and they snickerd again. Why? If they haven’t done that before,they should have told me “No ,I didn’t” or “No” Tbh,to protect myself, I should have left shortly after I heard them coming to me saying that word. That’s shame. Are you serious? You are visiting Nepal and don't understand that there are Nepalese people that look more east asian than you. Dragon fruit is expensive in Nepal Madam, I think there is some misunderstanding between you two, it was fair price 700 per kg dragon fruit, 1000 per kg was its normal price .. So that our poor farmer are unable to grow it. The knowledge about new crop and techniques of growing among farmer is very less.It is only grown on fewer region of nepal so the cost of fruit is slightly high than other fruit.It cost like Rs 800 to 1000 per kg.That poor guy was stuggling to feed his family by seeling fruits in cycle n ya'll calling him scammer.What a shame! I remember some tourists complaining like "Cocunut is super expensive in Nepal compared to India. They scammed me." Like no shit sherlock, Nepal doesn't have coconut farms unlike India and almost all of Cocunuts are imported from India. Do these tourists think that Coconut and Dragon Fruit grow in the himalayas of Nepal? @@khasarga exactly. I just watched her other video for trekking and she didn’t have a clue about it at first. She also mentioned that her mum hates the way she travels without proper preparation. No hate against her, but it shows the kind of person she is. So I think no matter how much we try to explain to her, she’ll just turn a blind eye to all our comments and only reply to those that she likes. Yesto manche sanga, we’re just wasting our time. My only fear now is, the possibility of her trekking up the mountains and trying to haggle the price for water or snacks cause they’re not the “original price” she paid in the cities of Nepal.
