@@mammadolimlechan that's true story. First some bad-karma motherfucker had stolen my wallet and mobile right from room number in Thamel, I asked a guy on reception to call the cops but pretended not to understand me. I sold my notebook (a thief didn't take it ) for 20$ to a local, than i dropped my lagguage with clothes on a street and started my journey lasted 2 weeks. Some guys gave me food for free, some gave me shelter but finally cops grabbed me and put into jail for 4 days.

You can get much better hotels with much better rooms than you have shown at Rs 500. MOMO costs no more than 60 in most of the places. Lassi is better in Fruit juice vendors and costs Rs 60. Chowmien usually costs Rs 70. Laundry price is OK.

was in Kathmandu this may, first of all that room of yours I got for 500 rupes a night with a cable and fan and my own bathroom...for 1000 rupes I had almost a lux room for Kathmandu( just before leaving wanted to spend the rupes I had left)the food cost less if you look around properly(there is even some Japanese don restaurant that everything pretty cheap and high quality with sea food!!! which is rare for nepal)... so is the alcohol. to me it seems like you just randomly stopped at different places. and nepals are really flexible on prices when it comes to ANYTHING other then food. so try to barge over the prices even on hotels... some may refuse but mostly depends what ever they full or not..

Any way try some different places I hope you gonna get cheaper than you were paying now. Keep on updating videos of Nepal. Thanks for promoting man!

I think a lot of people expect Nepal to be cheaper than it is, but you have to remember that EVERYTHING is imported and it nearly all has to come via India. So it isn't as cheap as India, nor many parts of China. But it is much poorer than it's mighty neighbours. I've just returned from a couple of months in Colombia and prices were in some cases cheaper there. It depends what you want to eat and drink, but for example, beers are relatively expensive compared to other countries in Asia; trekking - prices are higher the higher you go (food and accommodation), so you need to budget on at least 20$ a day (basic minimum not including guide/porter/entry fees).

Corrections: 1) 'Aloo' means potato not only in Hindi language but also in Nepalese language too. Because of the fact that the Sanskrit is the source of both Nepalese and Indian language, there are lots of similarities in these two languages. 2) Hot Tibetan beer -Tongba- is not only 'millet soaked in a hot water' but they are first cooked and then fermented with the help of yeast for at-least 4 to 5 days at certain temperature. The hot beer - tongba - becomes stronger with it's age. Just wanted offer viewers the right information that the 'producer of this video' failed to provide. Thank you.

Just to let you guys know that this is a "budget travel" video, which will give you an insight on how you can manage your stay cheaply. Of course there are tons of upscale hotel and traveling places for the tourists. However, the choice is yours and the visit is worth it. You won't leave this place without anything. :)

Coffee in Nepal is really good (Arabica grown at altitude). Lots of good places in Pokhara and Kathmandu serve it. I really recommend local coffee rather than Illy and Lazzava imports which are nice too, but much more expensive. My very favourite place for coffee is Cafe Chicusa in Jyatha which serves the best value real coffee (75NRs for a normal mug, 120NRs for a huge mug). They do really good breakfasts too, and the only place I know with a long list of toasties (the honey, peanut butter and banana is exceptionally good). It's more of a locals' place. Otherwise Himalayan Java is a good to hang-out if you want to meet all the gringos.

Thungba is made out of fermented millet. They mix boiled millet with yeast and leave it in an airtight bag. After a few days the mixture contains alkohol. Same procedure with rice is called Chang.Chang is even more tasty, but hard to get in Kathmandu, you will find in the villages. And if someone offer you Raksi: its distilled Chang or Thungba.

Hey man, nice indepth insight in to Kathmandu. It's all good. TONGBA, just correcting if you don't mind, isn't Tibetian. It is originally from the east and is typical Limbu millet beer which shares the same lineage with the Khambu (Rai) millet beer called Chanuwa. Both are the same except that there is absence of Pipsing (bamboo pipe straw for sucking) amongst the Khambu. Chhang is also the same except for the name used by the Tibetian minus the Pipsing and Tongba/Katuwa (the wooden mug). It can be consumed both in the winter and summer. Storing in the coolest cornermost of home for summer, after fermentation, and mixed it with hot water in winter for comsumption. The best original ones are that you can find in Nakhipot or Baneswor in Kathmandu.

i spent five months living there working for an NGO and on the weekends my mates and i would stay in hotels for the night. Hotel Namsey can be taken for 900 if you talk them down. If you walk across the street to galalohpacka go to JFC for cheap food. If you go behind the main shops in thermal you will find local food for cheap.

The Tibetan millet beer is usually drunk cold. If you are in a hurry than hot one is better as it takes less time for the alcohol to seep out of the grain.

its safe! there are no civilian mass shootings records in history(forget about civil war which ceased a decade ago). owing gun is very very rare and who owns it are gangsters but are busy in their own self business(no more now). foreigners are respected. u r valuable in nepal not in sense that foreigners are rich because respecting foreigners are in nepalese blood. u get smile and big hearted welcome in every place u go. but u can get distracted by street childrens who beg you or irritate for money. so in that sense u r 95% safe. 5% is your unluck that u meet some bad people or u hv a bad day. Pollution level high in cities. AIR,SOUND,WATER... river flows with human poops. water is unsafe(cholera/salmonella) in that sense u drink open bottled water in any hotel. but u get good jar water. air pollution: sometimes it gets like beijing. dust everywhere. transport: buses(3rd class- seems like bees in a hive) ,taxis... tourist area(rickshaw) sanitation level: poor

its cheap but its cheaper if you go outside tourist areas or can be lot expensive, depends on your guide. I wouldn't call Nepal the best or cheapest or anything, but Nepal sure comes in as "must visit in life time country".

Gabriel thank you for this awesome video! I have been wanting to visit Nepal but was fearful. Do you think that I would be a little accepted there by the feel of things Gabriel? or would they not so much want me there. I'm really kind but not sure on how they would perceive me. Also did you get to see any Tibetan handmade jewelry like collar beaded necklaces made by hand? THANKS SO MUCH, will order your book!

They're going to keep getting better, I have a bunch of amazing ones coming up. Curious to hear if your travel plans are coming together. I'm getting pretty swamped with comments now so often miss replies here. But I'm flying back to California in three weeks, I have to take care of some things and figure out what I'm doing next.

Very very useful to see what prices are and what things really look like. The inside of restaurants and hotels. Food pictures and menus. I would only say don’t get too hung up on the price or you end up with travelers competitiveness about who paid the least and who got the best deal. Well done.
