Mawi was from a reality show called Akademi Fantasia. After the show, he was slated as the next big pop star. Somehow, somewhere, something went wrong and he sticks to just becoming a radio DJ and TV host, occasionally. His forte is traditional song that have middle eastern influence and he is fluent in Arabic. You should see him performing Nour El Ain. Other notable songs are Aduh Saleha, Seroja (originally by Jamal Abdillah) and Kian. Used to be a big fan of him.

I still remember,Mawi's popularity at one point almost took over Siti's spot as the number one singer of Malaysia.Since Siti was slowing her pace back then & staying away from the industry for awhile at the time. Like Siti with her own SitiZoners he came up with MawiWorld. But after he received such popularity & wealth,he quickly got married & went hiatus. So basically,he quitted while he was at his peak of career. Now he's back into the industry,he struggles so much to even stay relevant. lol

It's kinda have influence of the Spanish, Arabic, Indian and Malay in most of the song written in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and even in the Philippine as the Spanish influence is strong as the other countries in S.E.Asia I believe.
