Seeing the analysis of Fabiano (in every game) make me understand that wasn't just a "psychological trick" by Magnus saying that for him it would be worst to face Fabi insted of Nepo

I don’t believe he only said that statement solely based on Nepo’s classical play vs Fabiano’s. I think it also had a lot to do with the fact that Fabiano would have had past WC experience, which would take away a huge portion of the mental edge that Magnus would have over a first time contender like Nepo. However, I’m not discounting the extreme mental fortitude and prowess that Magnus has shown through each of his title defenses.

Fabi's game is meant for the long-game, so with Hikaru on on Super Blitz and Bullet Chess and Wesley on Chess960-Fischer Random, However Magnus has the abilities of all those three plus the creativity of Aronian and the calmness of Liren

This man really contends for being the best in the world in almost every major chess time control. kasparov has his argument for being the greatest of classical chess but he was more often than not easily beaten by Karpov in blitz. Fischer at one point made a case for being the best in the world Blitz but only won 1 major blitz tournament. magnus the only person who held the world time for all 3 time controls.

He has been the FIDE World Rapid Champion twice (2003, 2017), Mainz World Rapid Champion 11 times (1997-2009) and World Classical Champion for 8 years (2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), a title which Magnus is defending right now. Anand also became the World Blitz Champion when he won the blitz world cup in 2000. There were no FIDE blitz or rapid world championship tournaments back then. The first FIDE blitz championship tournament happened in 2006 so your comment is very ignorant. There used to be blitz and rapid world cup tournaments or once in while championship tournaments like the one in 1988. The first-ever FIDE rapid world championship tournament happened in 2003 and Vishwanathan Anand won that tournament.

Magnus is like a Komodo Dragon. He takes a chunk out of his prey early in the fight and then retreats before stalking them while they slowly die from his venom. Finally, when they are too weak to fight back, he comes in for the kill.

I doubt if it had anything to do with a change of plan as Hess suggested. You can see that just some seconds earlier in the video the players 'suddenly' have an hour more on their clocks.

I miss the good old days when chess coverage was something different than watching the same 10 super GMs playing each other in almost every tournament. When occasionally you'd see a total dark horse win the tournament. And everything wasn't just about the next world championship cycle. When you would see tournament reports by, for example, Gligoric, who would be by turns a color commentator and a top analyst.

I was weaned on Bobby's era and eventually became a super fan of Kasparov but with the style and substance of his play versus Nepo in addition to his success in both rapid and blitz, the declaration of Magnus being the best ever appears to be more difficult to rebuke as we approach the end of his defense.

The commentary was generally great at showing the finer points, but I think you blew it with the moves surrounding the blunder. I felt like you really needed to show White's threat to win the pawn, and how Nepo's move did not prevent it. For anyone wondering, the threat was to win Black's A pawn with Qa3+ followed by Qxa2. The reason b5 attacking the bishop doesn't work is because White can ignore that threat and create his own threat. If the King moves out of check with Kg8, Qxa2 comes with an attack on Black's loose bishop, and a resulting exchange leaves Black a pawn down and with a terrible structure (Black has a desperado move ...Bxh2 which was covered as Black's best try, although Black is still in bad shape). If the check is blocked with ...Qd6, after Qxa2, White threatens mate in 3 on the back rank so the White bishop still can't be taken.

Right after the candidates was over earlier this year, Anish had admitted in front of Vidit and Sagar Shah of Chessbase India that Fabiano, not Nepo, would have been realistically the toughest challenger for Magnus because Nepo is inconsistent and makes unforgivable blunders. In fact, Nepo had lost to the weakest player on the final day of the candidates because of such a blunder. And Anish had predicted that is exactly what would happen in the championship, because unlike Fabi, Nepo doesn't have that insane consistency in focus.

With so few pieces left, its hard to catch the king in a mating net, unless they just walk into it. Black King in the middle of the board is actually an asset in a position like that because it can set up an outpost and help push pawns and take space from white. The position is very likely a draw at high levels because of symmetrical pawn structures and so few pieces to create imbalances (the bishops have identical power and the rooks have nearly identical power and are easy to trade for either side if they need to.)

What nonsense. You haven't seen many world championship games, then. If this is one of the worst games in history, what do you call the 8th and 11th games of the Fischer-Spassky match? Or their one move blunders in the 1st and 5th games? It always looks easy with a computer by your side. Try playing over these games without an engine.

@@fundhund62 Nepo showed integrity by apologizing after the game: admitted it was "not even GM level". I don't use an engine, but an easy game to win for White, with black creating no possibility of counterplay. (Merely easy manoeuvring to avoid any perpetual check obv.) Good on ya for mentioning those blunders in 1972: blunders are completely unacceptable at this level if there are no complications available in the position. Any levelheaded player 1900+ should beat Nepo after b5

@John Napier not knowing a famous chess figure it's irrelevant on my point. Danny has been my least favorite part of that stream. And yes I am not a good player of chess . Still he the one thing I'll change on the stream.
