Here in the US, some Indians do volunteer work for admission and once they get admission they are nowhere to be seen.

True. Not just admission in college but also for employment. As a part of ongoing research, I was studying some profiles of Indian techies in the USA. I was amused as well as shocked to see people who I had known as rude, sullen faced, unsocial and utterly selfish creatures while in India had suddenly metamorphsised as Florence Nitingales and Mother Teresa's, in the US. I think they do that to spruce up their profile on linkedin
