NerdCon: Stories Welcome - Hank Green (NerdCon: Stories 2015)

In which Hank welcomes everyone to the first annual NerdCon: Stories (he's not sure exactly what NerdCon is; conferences belong to their attendees), talks about the Baghdad Museum Project & the Epic of Gilgamesh, and tells the audience his thought process behind why the first NerdCon was NerdCon: Stories.

Let it be known that the audience applause, cheering and laughter were about 80 times louder than they sound in this video. It was a very receptive and responsive audience, but you can't hear most of it.

Hank, the reason you feel like the lights are brighter when your glasses are off is because your pupils are slightly dilated to optimize for light levels behind your glasses. Even though it isn't much the glass and lense coatings are blocking some of the light from the room.

I think this is really cute because of the way he mentions that he wants to appreciate authors more. John is an author! To me it feels like he's kinda saying that you know, online video is more his thing than John's and it's his job etc, and VidCon is such a massive thing for him and such a massive success for Hank and his love of online video and for his work, so it's kinda like Nerd Con: Stories is something that he made for John ☺️ not just his business partner, not just his brother, not just his partner in crime, but an author ☺️ something equivalent to VidCon, but John's version ☺️

We literally just read Gilgamesh in my World Mythology class and hearing Hank talk about this made me really happy. I really wish I would have been able to go to NerdCon: Stories. It seemed like a lot of fun.

As far as the whole everything-is-brighter-with-glasses-on thing, I'm *guessing* that it has to do with the lenses focusing more light into your eyes.

The idea that you should create a idea and then run away is apparent in many places... Twitter is a good example, retweets and hashtag were created by the users and then twitter took them as official platform. But when twitter restrict the tinkering the value of Twitter went plummeting... what does this idea, if true, apply to patents and copyright? Is capitalism ruining media? Does information better free and later regulated? Questions, questions.
