She didn't tell anyone that her plan was to explore an untapped cave system. Yes, she meant to surprise them, and no, she couldn't have known about the horrors within. But she should have told them in the cabin at very least, or closer to the beginning of the expedition, that they were going to an unexplored cave. For me, it's about preparedness. She was written as one of those people who make impulsive decisions without a back up plan in case something goes wrong. She certainly isn't the devil. As far as horror movie characters go, she's absolutely not the worst. She's even sympathetic at times. She just isn't a friend you'd want in person. The cheating with her friends husband is just icing on the cake.

The real life Nutty Putty Cave tragedy straight up gave me nightmares. Can’t think of a worse way to die. Stuck upside down in a dark narrow unmapped section of a tunnel underground with no space to move at all. So tight you can’t take full breaths, suffering for 27 agonizing hours, and dying of suffocation and heart failure. And after that your body just being left there to rot, and the entrance to the cave permanently cemented. A truly horrible tragedy.

TBH, the worst thing in *all* of the cave disasters I've ever read about kind of comes down to what is the *best* part of horrifying cave stories with good endings; people will keep trying to save you to the very end. By the end of hour two I'm pretty sure I'd be listing off ways anyone with access to their limbs could turn it into a mercy killing.

Its also quite cold underground, so hypothermia & exposure are huge risks too for unprepared/trapped cavers. The Nutty Putty story is particularly sad imo because the guy was very young and he wasnt deep in the cave. So many people came to help but they couldnt remove him without completely destroying his legs, considering he was in horrible condition he likely would have died & suffered horribly.

To be fair, I think anything extraneous is a no go for someone with PTSD. A sudden jolt of adrenaline, even from something not related to their trauma could make things worse, especially in a delicate situation away from immediate help. Taking in the canonical ending for this movie, I really don't think it's possible to survive. When you get so deep into the unmarked cave and it's just you vs the Crawlers, the crawlers would win. There's no way to tell how many are down there and you can only kill so many before they overwhelm.

The only way to survive would be to bring along A LOT of heavy firepower along with explosives, flares, and also night vision goggles for the darkest parts of the cave. Basically you'd need at least a dozen heavily armed Marines to have a feasible chance of making it out alive. The Crawlers were really strong and fast and could also scale up walls very quickly. Some of them can also get pretty damn big so it's no easy task.

@@robjef622 I don't think explosives is a good idea in a cave, and if you DO bring guns or something stronger, you're in a cave, with walls, a ceiling, and ground with solid rock. The sound from the gun will severely wound your ears without protection.

The guidebook was literally the clincher on these people surviving this. If even one of them had it on hand, they would have been able to call Juno out on her Bullshit instantly. The moment the went down the wrong path they were ALL dead (UK ending, canon ending babeeeeeeeeeeee). I can also forgive many of the character's mistakes after the 'wrong path' choice because caves don't have much oxygen to go around, and the sever lack of it would have resulted in Brain Hypoxia occurring very quickly. Rational thought ain't gonna happen when the percentage of oxygen in the air drops to the single digits. Fun fact: The creatures in the movie would be scientifically identified as either Troglobites (creatures who cannot exist anywhere but within caves, surviving off of whatever falls into the caverns) or more likely Troglophiles (creatures that enjoy living in caves and would prefer to do so, but can leave caves for food if they wish) due to their large bodies increasing their energy expenditure making full cave life inefficient, and the dead elk found outside the caves pointing to a nocturnal lifestyle. The one smart move was that the women in the film didn't go to the caves at night, because if they did, not even the surface around the cave would be a 'safe area'.

Just an FYI. The tiny crawler that jumped Sarah after she mercy killed her friend. Was a child probably around age 6 or 7. The female that followed was most likely the mother or a mother set to watch the child. In story sense it shows that even though the girls are being attacked and eaten they are "invading" the home of the crawlers. Food for thought

Almost all cases in which something is leaked due to hacking is because there was a weakness found, a weakness found because the holder of said info had either outdated security measures or the usual reason, didnt give a fuck. But fortunately, those cases seem to be the minority and combined with how there is a very little amount of people capable of "hacking" the chance of encountering one is pretty slim to say the least. So yeah, in the majority of cases you are entirely secure and even in the less secure cases, you are still incredibly secure as cyber defensive ability is miles ahead of the offensive. Unless you either give out your private info yourself by falling for phishing, or a russian militarily funded hacker group is attacking you, you'll be fine. A 'storm whistle' or 'shark whistle' that hikers carry (if they have any sense) is a great idea. Those two are the loudest whistes you can get and are used to signal an emergency. Those things can be heard a mile away. If you put your fingers in your ears and blew that in a confined cave, I dare say something that us blind and relys on having very accute hearing might have some serious problems ahead. It wouldn't just be deaf during the whistle blast, I dare say it might not be hearing ANYTHING for quite a minute or two.

I used to be an arborist and we would frequently send 20-30 foot tree tops, with two guys guiding/slowing it on the way down with 5/8” rope. Tree tops are much heavier than an adult woman, and even with atlas gloves on the friction of the rope will make your hands burn and throb for a few minutes, but catching someone from a fall like 11:20 would more than likely not cause a gash like that

I'm glad you commented on people's ripping off all the wires at the hospital. This happens in almost every TV show and movie where people wake up in a hospital bed. Ripping out things like an IV and a catheter actually hurts a lot, if you don't do it right. They might have to put it right back. I remember seeing a theory that the crawlers don’t even exist and this all takes place in Sarah’s mind as she makes a makes up a whole scenario of cave creatures killing her friends when she actually killed all of them due to insanity because she did not bring her medications with her and she was in extreme stress and broke, which is why the “crawlers” appeared halfway through the movie. I personally don’t think this theory is what actually happens, but it’s a fun theory

I have a fear of getting lost in a cave so this one hits home and then some. -- for me I would never enter the cave, beat it. -- The ending is also so dark and having two alternative endings both equally amazing made this a must watch.. Thank you for covering it!!

When in doubt, bring an ice climbing axe instead of basic tools you need to survive. Also lighting a fire in a cave you arent familiar with is a huge risk. Caves can be full of toxic or flammable gasses, its one of the biggest dangers.
