As mentioned by others in the comments, the events of GOTG Vol. 2, according to James Gunn himself, happens only a few months after Vol. 1. Therefore most lists put it immediately after AoS (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) wraps up season 1 (eps 117-122), then followed by the rest of I Am Groot. Again with AoS, it seems odd to put Ant-Man in the middle of Season 3's events, thereby delaying that season's resolution which is already broken up by the events of Civil War. So I have WHIH and Ant-Man Before Season 3 (after the Netflix shows). This is also how they were released: Ant-Man 7/17/15; AoS-301-319 from 9/29/15 to 5/3/16. I don't really care for mixing the movies from alternate universes in the middle, so I'll watch the Amazing Spider-Man movies before I start the MCU with Iron Man. Many lists chronologically place Iron Fist and The Defenders later on in Phase 3, but with them I don't think it really matters when you watch them in relation to the MCU proper.

There needs to be an "Abridged" list, for viewers who don't have a spare 200 hours in their schedule to binge entire TV shows just for backstory. Like, whats the best film from each phase, and what else do you need to watch to really *get* it?
@hectorminator2 жыл бұрын
That’s all subjective and depends on each individual viewer. To some, each PHASE of the MCU has a central theme, but to others it doesn’t, and that’s fine. It’s a cinematic universe, not necessarily individual chapters of one focused, ongoing story. So the answer would be: watch whatever interests you. If you’re interested in “getting it”, watch stuff until you think you’ve gotten it. Have fun!
@PVS32 жыл бұрын
@@hectorminator I don't think it's subjective to point out, for example, that there are VERY few through lines from the Ed Norton Hulk film to Avengers. Especially compared to Thor and Iron Man. Sure, there's the subjective "good" elements, but I was referring to the idea of say: "The capstone film of Phase 1 is Avengers, which is a cultural touchstone. If you want to enjoy it, you should watch Iron Man, Thor, Capt. America and Iron Man 2 first, but there's nothing critical in the other stuff, even if it's good."
@hectorminator2 жыл бұрын
@@PVS3 and I’d argue that THE INCREDIBLE HULK delivers critical information like how Bruce Banner destroyed Harlem, how he was chased by the military for years and distrusts them, General Ross is still a vital character, how Banner tried to cure himself but eventually, in Endgame, he shifts to trying to accept the Hulk side instead.
@PVS32 жыл бұрын
@@hectorminator GOOD! See how interesting a discussion that is, instead of "Here's a list of everything between Spiderman and Avengers in an order we like"? There are tradeoffs, decisions to justify... Like - Given only 10 hours of watch time for Phase 1, what would you include?
@hectorminator2 жыл бұрын
@@PVS3 why don’t you go ahead and make your own subjective list based on your own feelings and perspective, and I’ll stick to acknowledging every entry in the franchise whether it’s deemed “important” or not? = ) that way, everybody gets what they want!

In a chronological order, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 should happen directly after the first one, or maybe between the two Netflix shows and Agents of Shield Season 2. James Gunn stated the Guardians movies are only separated by a few months of in-universe time.

You can skip them if you want, the "upper-tier" stuff like the movies don't reference them. I do however recommend still watching AoS, it's quite good and is definitely canon. (The ending of season 4 just punts them into an adjacent timeline)
