One of the cinematography tricks to make Bella scary was that her torture of Hermione was off screen so left to the watchers' imagination. This, combined with the lack of time references in this sequence, makes this terrifying.
@Grigeral2 жыл бұрын
This depends entirely on the individual. If they have an active imagination then yes I'd agree 100%, the outcome could be a lot more horrifying left to the imagination. But there are also a lot of people who aren't able to do that the same way. Similar to there being people who, when reading books, don't 'see' the story unfold in their mind. It's just words on a page. So to those people, I imagine it being left off-screen is more just 'meh, it happened' and that's about it.

Yeah and that's how it is in the book. Infact perhaps it would be too taxing for smaller kids. Because you'd hear Ema squealing more in the Atmos speakers. Yes for the diolaug seen we got obviously now you bring it where it is to he beds cause movies are more show not tell. But after that when you hear poor little Hermione squealing again and I think Luna is saying hello to Harry you send that back as you said off screen and to Atmos. I just wana hear the rest to apreciate the work the 2 women put into the acting. Apparently Emma went too Mel Gibson for Dave's liking. So does Helena to be honest. Personally, growing up the scariest Death Eater was Antonin Dolohov. He's a lot less present in the story, but he's depicted on his introduction as one of the most dangerous escapees from Azkaban along with Bellatrix. Also driven mad by the Dementors, yet not as unstable as she is. Dolohov's the one that used the dark curse which almost killed Hermione at the Ministry of Magic. He later tried to strangle Harry. He murdered Molly Weasley's two brothers, Gideon and Fabian Prewett. And of course, he murdered Remus Lupin. The fact it took Flitwick, one of the most magically skilled in the entire series to take him down, says a lot about how dangerous he was.

I thought Umbridge was one of the best villains. I thought it was a nice bit of characterization for the end of the series. Mrs. Weasley has always been shown as a mother, as a wife, as a home-maker and care giver. There are plenty of hints that she has a fiery temperament, she is main source of discipline... It was still kind of shocking when she barrels in, casts off her cloak, and duels one-on-one this towering personality that was Bellatrix. Molly fights her to a standstill, a near match for her is dueling skill, until Bellatrix makes a mistake. It fit the themes well, and was kind of a bad-ass moment for Molly Weasley... who was otherwise a fairly overlooked supporting character. Plus, honestly I think it would have cheapened Harry's story to give him another win. Rowling did a pretty good job establishing that Harry isn't a world-class duelist. He never comes close to matching Snape. Harry's main quality is not his skill, it's his courage to walk into situations where he is overmatched. When he wins against someone important, it isn't based on skill, usually it's because his enemies don't take him seriously. He's more than capable of besting the low-end thuggish minions, but there isn't any reason to think he was a match for Bellatrix one on one. (at least in my opinion)

She was so potent with magical power and trained by voldemort himself in other skills, her mind was so unhinged that no one would even attempt to read it lest they be rendered a drooling mess.. She could go 0-100 at any moment as someone so capricious and illogical. She was deadly because you have her obvious mental impairments, extremism and perverted dedication, her harmful psychology and criminal lack of restraint.. and it's all fitted into a strong, well in shape, quick, powerful, skilled, agile, sensitive, intelligent body. With anyone else possessing her instability, they would not typically have an overtly powerful exterior to match, or their reflexes would be off.. you wouldn't be that scared because with them is usually a degree of self delusion, the mind isn't quite connected to the body, the body can't carry out most of the threats or can be circumvented. NOT THE CASE for Bella. Bella can do whatever she wants, there are no physical limitations, and not much anyone can do to stop her. She's got the muscle memory of a premier duelist and hermione-level aptitude which she can switch on at a moment's notice. She is so unhinged, so crazy.. but can move and think so well even predicting what moves others might do, which goes again to how she can read others tactically. She looks like a mental ward patient, but has got a body count in the high double digits and has defeated 3 aurors and 4 order of the phoenix members. Snape and Voldemort are cold, imposing, analytical people but what makes Bella scarier is the fact she is maniacal, passionate, psychotic but still analytical! still somewhat logical to the point she can win a battle. You cannot see in her someone who is remotely predictable. She goes from moving in a playful, child like state of weird asymmetrical steps and spasms, to being surgical precise, balanced spellcasting.. it's misdirection. Shows cunning on her part, mostly unremarked on.

I wonder if she compromised while being in prison for 14 years. Reminds me of a guy I knew who went to prison and what he did with a radiator.

I like Voldemort, he’s my favorite villain and favorite character. I can see why someone would say Bellatrix is scarier, even though I think Voldemort is worse. Bellatrix displays her cruelty freely. Whereas Voldemort is more controlled and calculating in his cruelty, but he’ll be just as bad if not worse.

Ok hey i have the most interesting video you should make.. It is a comparative video essay of who was worse out of Harry potter Bellatrix ans last Airbender azula. This could have the brilliant breakdown like we just had but also let you get feed back and stack each person deeds to one another

I'm afraid I have to disagree here. I've loved Bonham-Carter in other things (she was great in the King's speech for example, or in Alice in wonderland), but here she just portrayed Bellatrix as a simplistic, immature psychopath, with no sense of menace or self control at all. book Bellatrix also wants to torture Nevil, but only as a subbordinate goal to get harry to hand over the prophecy, since while she definitely enjoy's torture, her mission for Voldemort always comes first, indeed the times book bellatrix does! lose it count more, because she is usually so much more the cold psycho, not this overgrown malicious child. So sorry, have to disaagree with this one here.

PLEASE do the most *evil* person in current fiction: Ye Wenjie from the Three Body Problem! She sold us all out in a single second, without remorse at that moment. She resulted in the destruction of the entire civilization over centuries all because of.... Please!

Now this is a grand villain. It’s Helena Bonham Carter in excelsius. All the kookiness and borderline psychosis she’s played at for years amped up and made whole. I’m not waxing pretentious. She pulls it off by being integrated with the the story line instead of seeming like she’s in another film entirely. And am I nuts or is she scorchingly sexy in this role?
@cherusiderea13302 жыл бұрын
Elaborate on psychosis? Where is she imagining things, hearing voices or something like that? Do you mean psychopathy?
@enomiellanidrac9137 Жыл бұрын
Because she is added in the middle of serie when the tone matured and character were more fleshed out than in the children story of the begining?

If you compare only Harry Potter world then it's pretty easy to be "terrifying villain".

This is a solid video, but youve clearly only ever watched the movies - it was never Bellatrix's idea to do the unbreakable vow, that was a movie change - Bellatrix thought Narcissa was crazy for coming to Snape for this in the books, and couldn't believe it when he actually went through with it. In fact that whole part is purely movie analysis. Snape knew well before Narcissa and Bella knocked on the door that Draco was tasked with killing Dumbledore, knew that he would be the go to guy to kill Dumbledore if Draco couldn't and had already planned out WITH Dumbledore that he would kill Dumbledore. So he already knew he was going to make the unbreakable vow in that scene, Bellatrix had nothing to do with it, and was in fact trying to dissuade Narcissa from going to Snape because Snape might not know the plan, and Voldemort didn't want anybody to know the plan besides those he had told.
