@@daxiomus Well, the Large Hadron Collider could create a tiny black hole. It would just decay before it could actually cause problems. That's a little bit more reasonable than a nuclear bomb disabling gravity.

funny thing is, Nuclear Man is a more appropriate name for Superman. Everything about him is radiation-related.. one kind of star powers him up, another depowers him, and radioactive rocks hurt him depending on what he's charged up with..

Regardless, each human displays the same powers such as Superman, but on a lesser scale. We do absorb Sun's energy and we are strongly dependant on it. Ka'El just uses that energy more efficiently than an average Earthling does.

Since Superman and Nuclear bombs is the subject of this video, I urge you to go read a wonderful bronze age story from from 1984 titled, "The Day The Earth Died" (Superman # 408). A very mature take on the issue where Superman suffers night time anxieties caused by the Nuclear arms race and decides to get some air. He ponders over the question of where he should stand with regards to the matter in question. Shoud he intervene, should he take a back seat? Beautiful story be Paul Kupperberg and absolutely gorgeous art by the legendary Curt Swan.

I'm sorry your grandparents had to live through that time. I have no idea what it felt like to anyone on either side. As someone who was born in America (I believe I'm 2nd gen?) it makes me sick and uncomfortable to think about what my country has done to others just to win what was pretty much a petty squabble within the grand scheme of things. I believe they went too far in retaliation for what Japan did, and I hope that your grandparents don't (or didn't) harbor any negative feelings towards us.

This video actually solved something for me. I was trying to reinvent Superman, to find a bridge between the ideal and almost inhuman paragon of justice and the gritty soul torned tortured version of the recent movies. I wrote a storyline that allowed him to be both human and super but I lacked one crucial thing to make it all make sense: motivation. In my story Clark is a gentle giant at first, but I didn't really know how to transition him from an unassuming guy unwilling to bear too much responsibility to a hero who would try to better the world in a purely altruistic way. My first idea was to let his adoptive parents die of a natural disease, something he could do nothing about, but I felt this was more a way to make him realize he couldn't win every battle than a true motivation. This video gave me the idea. Clark would eventually fall into a form of apathy, going through the motions unable to feel civic rights because he was so different and immune to the needs other felt. He would seek refuge and excitement in impossible situation such as traveling through space, exploring the depth, swimming in volcanoes, doing things only he could do. Feeling the world would take care of itself anyway. But then he would witness and be engulfed in a nuclear blast. This is what would eventually shape him into Superman, witnessing both the power of the human race and its ability to produce horrors. The need for people, for everyone to grow consciences, especially people with such a destructive power. This is what would transition him from a good guy without a care in the world to a virtuous hero, this is the motivation he needs to put so much effort into being a good guy, a moral icon. The sight of a nuclear blast, and the thoughtlessness of people over it. Perhaps that's also what will motivate him to go to the Daily Planet, they covering the bomb as the scandal it was and not the splendid act to peace it wanted to be advertised as.

A well researched look into the history of Superman and his relationship with atomic weapons. It was interesting and chilling to go through the different ages i.e. bronze/silver reactions to the bomb and how they incorporated it. Bronze Superman championed it a a peace determent. While TDKR shows the horror of the bomb, as it nearly kills the symbol of truth and justice. Superman is forced to steal life from nature to save himself, question of the latter is, is that a 'super' act? Of course ending where I believe Superman should stand, as an outsider protecting his home. Whether by words or by actions.

The most unrealistic part of that movie wasn't the flying alien of Mr. Lungren's nuclear powers. It was that the UN clapped for him when he said "I'll force you to disarm" and the governments agreed to the program. You just know the US and most other countries would hide a few under ground in a lead vault so Superman couldn't see it. If Superman told me that story, I'd post it on r/thathappened.

So... nobody ever comments on how he never actually searches for any nukes. He just makes the announcement and then trusts that all the countries of the world will launch them, and when Luthor's goes up, he kind of looks at it like "Zut alors, I have missed one." and then tosses it on the pile and shrugs, "I guess that's all of them." Then he tosses them into the sun. I mean, any line of dialogue, "I couldn't see any more nuclear missiles", or "I can't smell any more plutonium on the planet" or "that's all radioactivity accounted for"... anything. Even just showing him grabbing the missiles instead of them launching and him just passively waiting for them would have been better.

Wow, watching your channel grow and those production values to evolve is trully astounding. This deserves WAY more views. I know that sometimes viewership may not be as high as you would hope, when you work hard on your research and topic, but don't give up. Seriously, this channel is special! :)

I'm probably the only one that actually likes Superman IV. It's Christopher Reeve as Superman, and in the end, that's all I need for me to declare a great Superman film. Having him in Man of Steel and Justice League would have gotten my butt planted in that seat in the theater.
