Clarus : The reactions you have for every episode of this show are unique and a interesting. That is in no small part due to the great writing of the show. When it comes to something like Attack on Titan, where the same plot point is stretched over multiple episodes, giving a repetitive reaction is hard to avoid. Nerdy : I don't think it is ever spelt out in the show, but I personally believe one of the big requirements for Mars gaining its independence was being self sufficient. This doesn't mean they don't require Ganymede but they are not as dependent on it as the Belt is. The writing in the Expanse is some of the best sci-fi over the last decade, and I've seen a lot of sci-fi! @slickjack2618 Жыл бұрын
Hi Kids, I haven't read the books upon which the series is based, but some of Nerdy's attempts to rationalize his knowledge of NYC geography with the scenes from the show can be fairly simply explained. As far as I can tell from the show, the UN Building hasn't moved from its historical spot on the East River. Nerdy's problem was that he thought Bobbie and the rest of the Martian Delegation were residing at the UN. An earlier episode (when the Martians landed) clearly indicated that they would be staying at the Martian Embassy. The Embassy could be at any number of unspecified locations within the Greater NYC area so there's no reason to believe its location would be in Mid-Town Manhattan. It could be within walking distance (for a Marine who trains in 1G.) of the Atlantic. Judging from the pathetic wave action of the ocean, I suspect the Atlantic Ocean was played by Lake Ontario. You may have seen Lake Ontario in real life, NOT playing some other large body of water. The Expanse series was filmed in Toronto. - sj

They do this specifically so they're able to invade Earth if needed, from their inception both the MCRN and MMC were created to fight Earth. Also, swimming shouldn't be harder in higher gravity (up to a certain limit, of course) because the water you displace with your now 3x heavier body also weighs 3x more so you should be just as buoyant no matter what the gravity is (up until the pressure and temperatures are high enough for water to become supercritical and loses the boundary between "under" and "above" water, though I think swimming in water above boiling temperature presents new problems unrelated to gravity).

I can be a Canadian but do bad stuff on behalf of a foreign entity in North Korea, government or not. Same goes for a powerful Earther when his Earth contacts aren't putting up their end of the deal. If all he wants is money and power, I don't think he really cares where it comes from. That said, the reason we watch reaction channels is because it's a blast to see you guys try to figure out what's happening, knowing how close you get, or how badly you flub. 😁 Then, when the payoff comes and the show gives you a reveal, it's fun to see you realize how much sense that makes, and why you came so near or missed it so badly. For instance, Errinwright knew what had happened was a protomolecule-based weapon system test because Jules-Pierre Mao had been working with him to create exactly that. The two men had a falling out, and Mao went looking for a new sponsor to fund the research he felt would save humanity from a terrifying alien threat. Clarus' observations about Chrisjen were spot-on. Avasarala does really terrible things for the best possible reasons. 😀

There are a lot of congruencies between the view we are being given of Mars and the old USSR. And Bobbie has been raised on the propaganda of Mars which makes the Martians the stalwart frontiersmen while Earthers all live in luxury. Now she's having her eyes opened.

We are loving your reactions. Thoughtful and deep. BTW, the writers of the book, that go by the pseudomim of James S.A. Corey (Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank) are also part of the writer's room. They are also Executive Producers of the show...at least by Season 3 onwards. Cannot remember if they were EPs before in S1 & S2, but they were always in the writer's room...writing episodes. Ty Frank was the one that built the world in the books, while Daniel Abraham was the dialogue and character's person, but one write primarily James Holden and the other wrote Josephus Miller (and in the editing they tweaked the other person's work), so by the end, they had written the whole, without much deliniation of who wrote what. The book series is complex, too; while the TV Series melds certain characters together. The further the show goes, the more characters are combined. I love both the books and the TV series. We have been watching these reactions weekly, but to my wife and I (who have seen the TV series multiple times [4-5], and now dozens of reactions of it. ATM, we are watching one reacter who is still in S1, while watching your S2 reactions. In fact, we JUST watched her reaction of S1:E6, then immediately pulled up your reaction of S2:E10. We love this show SO much...and we REALLY appreciate your knowledge of the industry and RL knowledge of being on set for other shows, that the other reactor knows NOTHING about. Her reaction is pure, just watching it without any extra knowledge, while the two you bring other industry knowledge, and your personalities (btwn the two of you) are so different, but you come at a scene or a character in unique but also similar ways. You, generally love the characters that you are supposed to love (like Amos), and despise the characters that you are supposed to despise (like Chicken Man). Your discussion about Anderson Dawes in the previous reaction was AMAZING. You were approaching the conflict from two diametrically different positions, but eventually came to the same point. We love that. You are DEFINITELY not cookie cutter reactors. You bring real thought to your reactions. You watch with intent and we are LOVING your reactions. Thank you. Don't worry if you are repetitive. Harp on those issues. Clarous' insights are great. You both work well together (as a married couple should grow to do, but not all do). She see the world in a slightly different way than most. Not a dig, but in a LOT of ways is refreshing. While Nerdy is more pragmatic (which is why he loves Amos so much). In some ways, Clarous is like James Holden (who is my favourite character) and Nerdy identifies closer to Amos. My wife, Marie, identifies with Naomi. She is pragmatic, but also BRILLIANT...and is able to cut through bullshit like a hot knife through warm butter). So, between the two of us, watching the two of you...we gain information and learn/adapt to each new scenario...and LOVE what this show is doing in your experience, which adds to our experience. Thank you. If you love S2 is your favourite, then each successive season is going to be your favourites, each season. Clarous' desire to learn more about Cotyar Ghazi. Oh, hang in there. Love your understanding of what Morally Grey characters ACTUALLY are. You are SO right. You brought up Snape, and I said, but I like him...and my wife said...yeah, and I do too, but he was the bad guy...from the beginning. You then confirmed my bias immediately like she did. Yes, your are totally correct. He is NOT morally grey...at all. Thank you for calling out my BS (both to Marie and the two of you). Ah, the Seanchan. Yes...I'm currently in my 9th read of the Wheel of Time (upcoming book is The Gathering Storm). AND you are so right. I just wish that Robert Jordan could've written his outrigger book that he was desiring to write after the series ended. I don't want to mention who's in it, for that is a Spoiler, but yeah, no...the Seanchan are bad, from top to bottom. Yikes. I still love Tuon, but that is because we've been in her head and understand why she does things, though we disagree with WHAT she is doing and why. Great character. She's not morally grey, either. Holden has got a guant look to him atm. Big brain Nerdy. We love you both.

Love your reactions. You’re giving me insight I didn’t necessarily have myself while also feeding my confirmation bias 😁😁 Also, Bobbie’s reaction to seeing the ocean was such an emotional scene. Frankie Adams smashed it. Strap in and bring tissues, next three episodes are fire.

She did not fall because of gravity. The military trains at 1 g. It was the vertigo induced by a horizon. Keep in mind, most people that are not from earth have ever seen a horizon and a deep vault of blue sky.

If at some point you want a bit of backstory on Amos I HIGHLY recommend reading the novella The Churn, you can get through it in about 90 min to 2 hours. You can do it at any time but after season 4 before season 5 is the best place thematically to read it.

"I didn't realize Jules had already seen a proto-person" One thing this show does rather poorly is illustrate properly the passage of time. MANY MANY MONTHS pass between some episodes, and it's never really communicated to the audience. The time it takes for Bobbie to travel from a moon of Jupiter to Earth, months and months. A substantial amount of time has passed between when Dresden found Julie and told Mao, until now.
@troikas3353 Жыл бұрын
That's an intentional choice. Making the time skips concrete and defining the actual time that is needed to traverse these distances becomes both a distraction to the audience if something doesn't line up and handcuffs the writers by forcing them to always keep it in mind. Keeping the time scale soft and unspoken circumvents that without really losing anything.
@emwungarand Жыл бұрын
@@troikas3353 I understand why they did it for the show. It just seems like Nerdy maybe wasn't picking up on the fact that a lot of time had passed and multiple protomolecule programs under the purview of Mao have had the time to reach maturity.
@mmattson8947 Жыл бұрын
They don't illustrate the passage of time, but it wouldn't necessarily take many months for Bobbie to travel from Jupiter to the Earth. Jupiter is 5 AU from the sun. Let's use that distance, and not worry if it is 4 or 6 AU from Earth (and that the Sun isn't in the way). A ship with a constant thrust of 0.2g will travel that distance in 10 days. (The Epstein Drive changes everything.) Since you don't want to fly by your destination, it would be roughly 7 days accelerating and 7 days decelerating. If they have to ration fuel, maybe it is only 0.1g, which would make it one month. (And given that this is a vital peace conference, they wouldn't be sacrificing speed to conserve fuel.)

I don't feel there is too much repetition with what you say besides the obvious that this is a really good show and how great Amos is. That said, I only found your channel and started watching when you started releasing the Expanse videos, so I've been watching each episode as you release them. Your timing was perfect as I has just finished book 2 for the first time and thought perhaps I should re-watch the show (again). I haven't yet watched your other videos, perhaps I'd get the Nerdy-isms if I had. By the way, have you considered reacting to Orphan Black? I recently started re-watching it in anticipation of the sequel. I only mention it because it is another great scifi show that I feel highlights (or plays with) the morally gray vs straight up wrong.
@Metro498 Жыл бұрын
Why we watch The Expanse reactions is that you react to this show as we did the first time. A gut turning, heart pumping, thrill ride that keeps paying off each episode. We all bring are emotions to the table, and feed adrenaline to each other. Be who you are and don't fret about what the audience thinks. The best reaction videos are couples and mix groups. You two are doing great. Keep going the payoffs will be fantastic!

But the Cascade Effect is utterly chilling because we're actually living right in the middle of the fastest Mass Extinction disasters in the history of our planet. And it doesn't look like we can stop it. The Cascade Effect is a very real natural phenomenon.

Mao lives on Earth. If you remember when Errinwright met him at his estate. And then he runs a major multi-planetary corporation so that Dresden and Strickland could have been working independently of one another. And from my viewpoint, the Caliban was released on the UN troops, and when it overran the Martian position that was just collateral damage, as was the destruction of the mirror and its aftermath.

"All the characters on the show behave like adults..." one of the most smartest reactions about this show I have heard yet. Nobody is just plain Jane psychotic, or in any other way one dimensional. The show's genius, is that everybody we see gets an arc. Even short time players get one. Side note: I Really Really hope Corridor or somebody interviews the Stunt woman who took that building roll. That looked NASTY. Lulu doesn't hide padding well.
