Jesse, you seriously got one of the best racing/training channels on YT. Utterly underestimated and way to few subs for the quality of the content. Also would've loved to ride with you, when I was in Sydney for a conference last year. Unfortunately, you were in the Netherlands (or Belgium?) back then :D Nevertheless: love your content and rigorous, scientific approach to fitness and training in general!

Also, you flew past me going up Garie climb that day. Nice to know that was your peak. Impressive stuff.

I hit 6 w/kg for 10 minutes about 2 months ago. Threshold, CV, punchy races. Some 5 minute efforts at 6.3-6.4 w/kg and then figured I could do it. More of a strike when the iron is hot approach. So I went for it, kept cadence high, mixed about 2 minutes out of the saddle and finished just over 6 w/kg for the 10. Strike while the iron is hot is probably my best advice.

This is great Jesse. Really great to see how you approach it. There is really so much to unpack from this video. It really could be several videos and I’d recommend you break each point down in more videos. Like most people, I was really interested in the ‘building the engine’ phase. And the three workouts (endurance , 10min over threshold, and 2x20min) sound pretty standard. One thing you didn’t mention was how often you do these? How many sessions with intensity do you do in a week?
@nerocoaching3 жыл бұрын
I can break it down for future videos, but I'm cautious to make sure this is just explaining what I did at this point of the year, in context. As if I was going to do the same build right now, it might not follow the same structure. Also why I can't really say how often I'd do intensity per week, etc because it's changes every time, not a hard and fast rule. When we have racing back on I'll do some videos walking through my prep which should answer those in context.

I’m so jealous. 20 hours a week?!?! 1000 TSS!?!? “Nothing really crazy..” haha yeah ok. My wife and kids would have left years ago if I spent that much time on my bike. I can get away with 10 hours max!

6 w/kg for 10 mins is very impressive but pogacar can do 7 w/kg for 9 mins and remco can do 6w/kg for 30 minutes which is literally just mind blowing. kudos to you though

Very impressive. Do you have a link to where you bought the mini sauna? I've found a seemingly identical model to yours on aliexpress for just under 150 USD but I'm not sure if the quality and most importantly safety is adequate.

It needs to be like this: alwaysdirect.com.au/products/portable-far-infrared-one-person-home-sauna-with-foot-heating-pad-and-portable-chair?gad_source=1 A lot of the ones online that look similar are steam based and only pump in steam which are unlikely to get hot enough

Curious your thoughts on the high torque/low cadence work; I’ve really found benefit with it but it also got me thinking, why is it that we measure watts when they are a product of two variables (cadence and force). Like why don’t our head units show us torque over 3 seconds or whatever rather than watts? Rather it would seem that torque would be the gold standard for training intervals as in it allows you to much more specifically target the desired stimulus than simple wattage. I know some coaches will say “x wattage at a given cadence” but 350 watts at 90+ rpm is an entirely different stimulus than 350 watts at 60 or less rpm. Sorta existential question I know but just curious your take?

Do you thing the forced time off when couldn't ride or had to ride less played any part in your higher peaks? I.e do you think your peak would have been as good if had trained through that period normally
@nerocoaching3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the forced reduction in training set me up for more gains, I'm good at managing my training regardless. But I can't rule it out, thats for sure.
