*OMG, THIS PENGUIN IS EVEN FASTER 40 TIMES THAN THE SOUND OR SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!* The counter starts at 900 km. It reaches 760 km in 10 seconds. This means that this penguin traveled 140 km in just under 10 seconds. Or 14.000 metres per 1 second. The sound speed is 323 metres per 1 second - that is the full speed Sonic the Hedgehog too. That means this penguin is traveling with 50400 Km/h. To escape Earth's gravity and leave Earth behind is 11.19 km/s or 40,284 km/h - that means this penguin is faster than a space rocket and if it ran on a launch pad, it would be able to leave the Earth's gravitational field immediately. This speed is equal *Mach 40.8.* The fastest vehicle is nowadays is the *NASA X-43 was an experimental unmanned hypersonic aircraft with Mach 9.64, - 10,240 km/h - so this penguin almost faster 5 times than the fastest earth vehicle, what the man is ever made. This penguin is incrediby FCKIN FAST!* 🐧⚡🏃🏻💨💨

I never understood this reaction about "No way! This penguin is incredibly fast!" Even if it's meant as a joke: The joke doesn't work. If he's really that fast, then he and his whole world would also be insanely huge. He jumps over holes that are apparently three kilometers wide. And the hut is visible when he's still "80 km" away from it. When you see the hut at its full size, he's still "7 km" away. You could just as well jokingly claim: "This penguin is three kilometers tall!" Obviously the speed value is simply missing a decimal point somewhere. Saying "Wow, he's 40 times faster than Sonic" is a poor joke because all you have to do is look at the actual gameplay on the screen to notice that this is obviously not the case, no matter what some abstract numbers in the status bar claim.

@@meyers0781 So, according to this, the penguin was a Soviet-experiment, a nuclear-powered genetic mutant that was tested in Antarctica? That explains a lot. For example, why it was capable of more than 50,000 km/h (40 Mach). (According to the original description of the game, the research station without a flag originally belonged to the Soviet Union, but later they decided not to depict the Soviet flag.)

I had that same cartridge. I'm sure I played it for thousands of hours as a kid. I'm like 98% certain that cartridge was skirting some laws. But it _was_, essentially, a large portion of my childhood. I had the 2-in-1 SMB/Duck Hunt cartridge and Tetris. For a little while, I also borrowed SMB2, Ghost Busters, and that Snoopy Olympics game that goes by seven thousand different names. When that little while ended, I was back to SMB, Duck Hunt, and Tetris. And the potential bootleg with 72 whole games! 20-ish of which were actually kind of worth playing! I lived off of that black cartridge. I can still hear, in my mind's ear, the sound of moving the cursor up and down to select the game.

@MannyMustermann11 ай бұрын
Yeah, but this would also mean that holes are three kilometers wide or that the hut is so huge that's it's visible from an 80 km distance. It's obvious that the status bar confuses kilometers with meters, or even just tens of meters. But does the scrolling and the graphics imply that he really passed an 8000 km long landscape?
