The tranquility of the Master Higgins's (or Takahashi as his real name is) island is once again disturbed. This time, some unknown force is causing havoc throughout the island. And what's worse is that Higgins's 5 dinosaur pals are kidnapped (what species who think messing with Takahashi is a good idea haven't gone extinct yet?). Naturally, it is up to our straw-skirt-wearing hero to save the day.
Takahashi Meijin no Boken Jima IV ("Master Takahashi's Adventure Island IV" ) is a 1994 platform game released by Hudson Soft for the Family Computer. It is the fourth and final Adventure Island game released for the Famicom. It bears the distinction of being the final official Family Computer game in Japan and was never officially released for the international market. Unlike previous entries in the Adventure Island series, Boken Jima IV plays less like a straight platformer and more of an action-adventure platformer, similar to the Wonder Boy games, from which the Adventure Island series started.
Instead of the conventional stages Higgins has the whole island to explore. The only problem is some areas are blocked off until bosses are defeated while other is inaccessible until Higgins obtained the necessary item. These items can be obtained by either defeating bosses or winning mini-games. Scattered throughout the island are critters who challenge you to a certain mini-game. When a dinosaur is saved, you can ride it and use its powers. To make it easier to travel from one area to the next, you are given the warp-egg. By placing it on a special stand that's located throughout the island, you can warp to where the egg is at any time. The select screen acts as an inventory for all of your obtained items. There is no save in the game, instead you can receive a password by taking a nap in your hut. You lose all items if you die. Pressing the Select button shows the world map for some reason.
I try to show all areas, maps, secrets, items and mini-games. Because of this, there's some back and forth for the sake of completion. I died several times on purpose to lose fairy so that I could play mini-games and to show the resurrection and death animations. -

The version I had in India was the one with Japanese text. Never managed to understand the dialogue boxes, but still finished the game! Those were the days...

Yeah, this one was fan-translated. More than half of Japan-only Famicom games were, interestingly enough (mostly to English). Cool game indeed, can't argue with that.

Looking back at this game, it's incredible how many things these guys got right! Backtracking, a sort of open world, RPG elements, that Metroidvania feel, and a lot more that makes this game a true masterpiece for its time.

Yup, it actually was one of the final releases for the Famicom in Japan (1994). No wonder it flew under everyone's radar. Interestingly, it was one of the first Famicom games to receive a fan-translation. :)

One of my best childhood game. My cousin and I spent many days to complete it. And when it's over, the hero rescued his wife and arrived the island, I really really want the new level for this game to accomplish. This is one of my first game ever I'm excited and interested to play because of gameplay and many items , weapon , hidden secret,... So much memories.

Adventure island 4 de 1994 mejor conocido en México como los juegos de capulinita debido al parecido con el comediante mexicano capulina este juego es uno de los últimos de la generación de 8 bits ya que la generación de los 16 bits estaba arrasando la competencia aun así es muy buen juego este título lo conocí en una ROM y entre 2012 a 2014 lo conseguir 3 veces en compilatorio en 3 en 1 en cartucho de familiy Game junto con Adventure island 2 y 3 y al día de hoy aun los conservó y los he acabado mas de una vez ya que Adventure island 1 es el título que aun no lo he terminado
