I wasn't too impressed when I first started it but I got into it when I gained some power-ups and understand the game a bit better. Its a nice, fast paced action game with very catchy music. The doors in and at the end of the level let you buy weapons, gamble your rings or heal, plus there's bonus islands to go to. There are 4 hidden items that can be gathered by running into brown birds in the levels and if obtained the final boss will be weakened. The translation while nice isn't perfect.

I played the Japanese version back in the day. All those Japanese quizzes brought me close to learning the language. Of course I didn't really learn anything, but I had almost completely memorized the questions and answers. So much so that I could convince my brother that I did actually speak Japanese. Fun times.

Same here, I passed the quiz section by memorize random japanese letters + write down its pattern with the help of tiny used dictionary. It's REALLY back then when blackberry & apple were just fruits, rainbow was just "rainbow", and windows were just "window" since only DOS were available. Such an awesome sweet nostalgic 30 years ago. Yes, I played the hacked japanese version which we got "the crown" since the start of the game. I must skip the carrot tower level in order to avoid quiz section to finish of the game

It's a decent enough game but the action parts are looked over in favor of the quiz sections and shop/power up options. I wish at least there were more difficulty levels like Kid's other games. Also the music is too fast in this video. I wonder if they're playing the German version and accidentally sped it up to 60 hz?

@@Dorian_Scott The music in this video is at the wrong speed. I have the Famicom version, actually I just recorded the music from the sound test analog style. They probably optimized the game such that it would play at the right speed at 50hz in the German version

Hopefully the Japanese version gets translated some day so we don't have to put up with the 50Hz crap. 50fps on a 60Hz monitor is not smooth scrolling, and on a CRT 50Hz is flickery and squashed (you'll have to correct vertical geometry, then you have a number of people that don't have 50Hz capable CRTs. The whole thing is a mess.
