This week James Rolfe and Mike Matei play NES Remix and NES Remix 2 for Wii U. Both games were published by Nintendo and are available as downloadable content on the Wii U console. NES Remix lets players relive many retro titles with all new challenges. Games include such classics as Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Punch-Out!! and many others. In this video, James and Mike take a quick look at a few of the games, and attempt some of the challenges!
Note: We were able to fix the TV issue by enabling "game mode" on the TV. That is fixed now. Also, sorry the audio sounds poor in this video. We forgot to turn the air conditioning off in the room.

Probably already been mentioned in the comments, but the delay is called input lag, and it's caused by the tv. With HDTVs you need to check each model specifically and find somewhere online where somebody has measured the input lag. Less than 20ms is ideal. Gaming mode helps some, but depending on how bad the input lag is on your model to begin with, you could still be seeing some considerable lag with gaming mode turned on.

Yep, the TV's CPU has to "process" the signal and apply the various fancy effects to it like 120hz interpolation, dynamic contrast, upscaling, analog > digital conversion and a whole ton of other stuff.

I don't even get close to a TV if its not under 10ms response time, its basically the only important attribute when buying a TV for gaming. Current TVs are all 1080p and have refresh times of 60hz (which is basically what games run at and will run for another million years), dynamic contrast does nothing. I'm surprised Mike bought a TV that sucks for gaming.

***** I haven't seen less than 1080p TVs in stores for a few years, and I live in a 3rd world country. I should have specified 1080p +, but I tend to forget about 4k because it has no real use currently (I mean, not like it makes any difference unless the screen is like 90") 60 fps is more than enough, the difference from 30 to 60fps is noticeable, but from 60 to 120 is barely any different. I have my games set to cap FPS at 60 just to avoid unneeded processing (not like I could see it anyways, my monitor is 60hz).

If your display can support displaying content at a faster speed then 60hz and you have a game that can run well at speeds faster then 60fps, you will noticed a difference between the higher speed and 60fps just as much as you'd notice a difference between 30 and 60 fps. Eyes don't work with frame rates and are far more sensitive then most people think. Should we get rid of sub-woofers because their extremely inefficient at making noise and mostly generate air pressure? I mean the difference between using one and not using one would be similar to the difference between 60fps and 120fps (With the right gear to display the difference correctly). We also can't consciously hear most of the sounds a sub woofer can produce.

NatsuhikoMiroku Only a couple of the best monitors out there get below 10ms, and monitors tend to be better than HDTVs. The lowest HDTVs I've seen measure at 17-18ms. So, I don't think you're getting TVs with less than 10ms. As for Mike buying a tv with bad input lag...it's still not really common knowledge, a lot of people don't know about it. It's not like it's one of the specs the manufacturer lists for the tv (although that would be nice).

Awesome! I've played the NES Remix too and I think its OK. Some of the challenges are kind of simpleforward but it works fine and the nostalgia value is there defitinely. Also need to try the sequel too! :)

Never heard of this game, but I don't have the Wii U, so I end up playing regular NES rather than this. This game was only for the Wii U, but it was not available for the 3DS unless you might get classic NES game in the Virtual Console section of the Nintendo eShop. This game is sorta like a tutorial of all of the classic games for the NES including "Dr. Mario", "Mario Bros.", the first 3 "Super Mario Bros." Games, and lots more. It like a mini game, but it is quite fun to play. "NES Remix" is like "Action 52" on steroids.

Glad to see that you got the "Game Mode" figured out - the lag has nothing to do with the switchers, it's because the TV was taking the incoming signal and trying to apply all sorts of image-processing techniques to make things look better/smoother.

What I've never understood about flatscreens is, even 10 years ago flat computer monitors had no input lag, the only visible sluggishness (if any) is due to the pixel response time not being negligible, and computer monitors have only gotten better in every way, and yet, LCD/LED flatscreen TVs, which hardware wise are really just fucking big computer monitors, almost always have massive input lag due to 9001 more or less gimmicky "ultra clear contrast clarity vividness boost extra enhancement plus +" things and frame interpolation algorithms, which is fair enough, but what really confused me is, like, many TVs still have input lag in "Game Mode" (or whatever the manufacturers decided to call it this time) though less of it, while computer monitors, even if you buy one for like $100, which these days are really just small TVs, usually have negligible input lag over the same HDMI interface. Like, WTF?! I also don't get why TV safe cropping is still the default on TVs in 2014, even when displaying a 1920x1080 signal on a 1920x1080 panel, and some cheaper TVs don't even allow you to turn it off. Like, WTF is that about? It's time to drop that archaic practice already.

devilmikey00 the only reason the game cube was a commercial failure is because nintendo didn't advertise it very well. This is because nintendo is more concerned with new gimmicks instead games, the game cube had a carry handle which was practically pointless but this is what nintendo decided to show off most when the console was released, this turned people to buy the Ps2 instead
