MrJ0mmy The nes controller kicked the SMS controllers' ass twice on Sunday. The SMS was good, but so many iconic characters and franchises started on the NES. Oh I don't know, Mario, Link, and Donkey Kong to name a few. The music was better to on the NES. The characters listed above had iconic music as well. Oh and Nintendo is still in business today, AND making consoles. Those Americans they are so dumb.......oh wait.

I don't know why Americans were so obsessed with the NES. The Master System was far superior in every technical aspect but it lacked a little on the controllers themselves. But as far as games and comparisons, the truth is right before your eyes. You can also compare Ghouls and Ghosts, Bubble Bobble, Altered Beast, Alien 3 and Double Dragon on both machines and judge for yourself. Although there is nothing difficult to judge, this is clear as night and day. In the 8-bit TV consoles, SEGA was the king. Other awesome games on the Sega Master System that you should definitely check out are: the first Asterix, Asterix and the Great Rescue, Psycho Fox, Shinobi, Jurassic Park, Lemmings, R-Type, Shadow Of The Beast, Populous, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap (which will also have an HD remake very soon), Cool Spot (with graphics almost 16-bit), Master Of Darkness, Super Kick Off, Ultimate Soccer, Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 just to name a few. Go watch any of these games and then go watch some NES games... It's a real shame that such a great console as the Master System, didn't had the media exposure that it deserved and all because Nintendo was more capable at marketing on the US than Sega. In Europe, Master System was the king of the time because simply it was better than the NES. In America, people were deceived by a clever Nintendo marketing department and they thought that the NES was on top of the world. No, it wasn't. The best 8-bit console that existed, was and always will be, the Sega Master System.

I agree it's so sad how Nintendo Brainwashed America and blackmailed developers and media outlets to support the NES. America stopped getting new SMS titles by around 1991 while Europe kept getting them until 1996. It drives me mad how the NES is Americans only 8bit reference. I'm so glad I grew up in the UK that had 8bit computers and the Master System etc

Nintendo were ruthless with their marketing to get NES off the ground in the US. But without the NES, the Master System would never have existed. NES didn't do so well in UK/EU because it didn't make much of an impact next to machines like Commodore 64. Where as SMS did. In Japan however, the SMS was Sega's third attempt at steeling Nintendo's thunder. That was how Nintendo won over so many third parties. That said, most UK/EU third parties were ignored in Japan and US. So SMS snapped up a lot of hidden talent.
@painthenhope7 жыл бұрын
Korakaris You are correct. I am one of the few Americans that was not deceived by the NES marketing. When I was around 16 years old, I looked at and read an article comparing NES and SMS. I was trying to decide which to get. After reviewing the article, the SMS clearly had the better looking games. Phantasy Star is still my favorite game til this day. I have never regretted my choice of getting the SMS instead of NES. Great games like Kenseiden, Golvelius, Thunder Blade, Wonder Boy 2 and 3, Space Harrier, Outrun, R-type, Y's, Double Dragon with 2 players, etc. The SMS is the clear winner.

The Master System really is a fantastic console. It doesn't have many blockbuster games unlike the NES, but it had things that most consoles of today don't have: Built-in games, and an alternative way of playing games (Referring to the Card slot). I don't know anything about these consoles contextually as I'm 16 and I hadn't even seen an 8-Bit console when I was younger, but I've owned both of these (I bought my Master System recently and still have it) and i can conclude that the SMS plays much better than the NES, of which had the ridiculous problem of the cartridge slot barely working at all. I haven't had a single problem with SMS cartridges yet... Also, (This may be a little biased) Mario 1 on the NES seemed incredibly dull in comparison to Sonic 1 on the SMS (And yes I know it was ported from the Mega Drive but thats besides the point). I used to completely adore Nintendo's retro consoles, but I've veered completely to SEGA, because their consoles, whilst not too memorable or popular, were in a sense better consoles.
@hyzenthlay71516 жыл бұрын
Sonic wasn't ported from the Mega Drive, and that's why it was such a great game on the Master System. The Gema Drive was the first one, but instead of downgrading the existing game which usually ends up with a poor graphic rendition of the original game and clunky controls, they made the SMS Sonic from scratch with totally different levels and everything, so it was made for the SMS specifically, not ported. In fact, you can buy them both on both consoles and have 2 different games because they are very different. It's the same with all the Sonic platform titles.
@AlexeyFilippenkoPlummet9 жыл бұрын
And Nintendo fan boys still praise their precious NES, while it has nothing special about it but being overly popular. SMS looks like 16 bit console, it's so ahead and neat! Same goes for NeoGeo - games there were just incredible, but all you hear in the US is "omg Nintendo is so good". That's a very good example of corporate monster - you take the market and you start dictating your rules and don't have to worry about being advanced too much. Even AVGN is a Nintendo fan boy. While in Europe there were no over-popularity precedent in the early 90's and SEGA went on top of Nintendo pretty hard there because it was fair competition.
@ZorMon9 жыл бұрын
+Alexey Filippenko NES was better because of games. Mario, Megaman, Castlevania... Nobody cares about color depth or CPU power if the system has no games. SMS is, without any doubt, more powerfull than NES, but people usually dont care about that. The same thing with PS2, vs GC-Xbox. GCXbox is way better than PS2 in power, but PS2 had almost all third party games and exclusives.

Red Whovian I agree that Master System didn't have as many games on shelves but the gameplay was far from shitty. The console proved it can handle graphics as well as smooth gameplay with titles ranging from Alex Kidds, Sonic games, Shinobi, Psycho Fox. These are just some titles that show the SEGAs capabilities of good graphics and fast pace gameplay that the Nintendo wouldn't be able to handle. The controller for the Master System was appaling though. I still own both SEGA and Nintendo consoles and love titles from both but do believe that NES pioneered a new gaming industry but the Master System raised the bar.

I remember the very early 90's. Many systems were on the market, but everyone had some kind of Nintendo (GB,NES,SNES) and only a few freaks had consoles from Atari, Sega or even SNK. I found a MasterSystem II by accident in a friend's gazebo. The thing was completely rocked down and dirty, but still ran. At that time everyone already had 16bit systems (Amiga,MegaDrives,SNES) and no one was interested in the small MasterSystem lying around unnoticed. So I turned it on and found a Sonic Cartridge and was immediately hooked and kept playing until I made it to the end. I couldn't believe it was an 8bit console - the colors were bright and colorful, the scrolling smooth and fast. I enjoyed the MasterSystem Sonic much more than the MegaDrive/Genesis. It's really a shame that this great machine didn't find a larger audience.

Here in Australia the video game was slightly 50/50 with NES having a slight stranglehold in the 1980's! But that would come to an end when SEGA introduced it's SMS2 for $99, that's where SEGA would get a better foot in the gamers door. Bear in mind in 1988 a standard NES console system would set you back at $359!!! That's not cheap and the games were pricey too but the SMS1 was also $320+ as well! From 88 I played the NES in my local (bought a SMS2 in 1989 with Wonder Boy 1 & Alex Kidd built-in) mall including all the SEGA consoles as well, so I liked both sides for their strengths and weaknesses (didn't get an 8 bit NES set until 1992 for under $100 unbelievable Nintendo?!!. I'm thrown in the neutral zone because both sides, I remember NES Star Wars port but have never ever seen the SEGA port?! Seriously SEGA Ozisoft?! Wtf were you guys thinking?!! Look at all these Sega fanboys demonising Nintendo and praising Sega. "Wah Sega didn't get this." and "Wah, Nintendo wasn't fair." You all realise that Nintendo and Sega are both business companies who want nothing more from you than your money? Nintendo were aggressive at marketing the NES to North America by trying to get themselves everywhere and they knew exactly what to do with North America during the supposed video game crash. Nintendo was simply being competitive to stop anyone else from taking any potential earnings, like a normal business company would do. Sega just didn't have an answer to Nintendo's overwhelming Monoply until the Sega Mega Drive where they actually stepped their game up in North America. What the hell is this talk about "being fair"? Why the hell would Nintendo hand over potential exclusives to a rival company? You Sega fanboys just don't understand how business works. It's about domination, not sharing the wealth. Exclusives are essential to a Consoles success. It's what sways you to buy one console over the other. Nintendo wanted to keep Capcom, Konami and Squaresoft to themselves so they could convince consumers to buy the NES over the Master System. Sega had to find Nintendo's weak points and use them to their advantage, hence the Mega Drive's more mature themed console, courtesy towards violence, bringing the arcade experience home and at it's release, it's superiority of being a 16-bit console over the 8-bit NES. Nintendo failed in Europe mainly because there wasn't a problem to capitalise on and people in the UK were much more into micro computers such as the ZX Spectrum, Atari ST and Commodore 64 due to the fact they were cheap and were easy to create copies of the games. People weren't swayed by Nintendo's anti piracy and expensive games in the UK when the ZX Spectrum alone had thousands of games to play. Since then, Nintendo had always given us a lower priority over Americans. A big factor to Sega's above average success in other countries comes down to capitalising on the remaining countries before Nintendo had a chance to do so. Business is the game! I also have no idea where this "blackmailing" of certain game companies comes from. It's clear that if Squaresoft, Konami and Capcom didn't like what Nintendo was doing, they would simply stop supporting Nintendo but obviously Nintendo must have done something right to keep them on board. The closest to "blackmailing" Nintendo has ever done is when SquareEnix had problems with Nintendo's decisions with the making of the N64. All Nintendo ever said was "If you leave, don't come back." and that's what SquareEnix did and it never bit them in the arse because they were successful with the PlayStation with games such as Final Fantasy 7. Please educate yourselves before you spill more biased bullshit that isn't true. Neither company is evil and neither company is a hero. Nintendo won in Japan and America while Sega won in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil. It's the truth, get over it! Other than that. Sega's only good console was the Mega Drive. The others were shit.

Where? 0o I've seen literally the opposite. Can you describe your vision of pleasant color pallet of NES-SW?
@miguelalbuquerque84504 жыл бұрын
@@oldfan4049 1:54 for example, you can't easily distinguish the background and the foreground on the SMS, while the NES has darker tones in the background to make navigation easier

There was no war, just a healthy competition where both companies has their wins and flaws^^ And it's interesting to look at this wins/flaws nowadays nevertheless!
