Compared to most final boss themes in Yakuza. There is no melancholy, but instead triumph. As we are witnessing the birth of Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima. Kiryu faces the Seiryū, the guardian dragon. While Kiryu is the uninked ascending dragon. By defeating this veteran, Kiryu earns his ink, and that ink pens the title Shibusawa craved. It's only at the end where it slows to a music box, where melancholy slightly crosses the mind of this song. As it plays the last tune of Shibusawa's dream and signals the birth of Kiryu's legend.

In Yakuza 2, they make a great fuss on how yakuza's tattoo artist don't give dragons lightly to people (In "Like a Dragon" universe, at least) They have to be struck by their aura, be convinced on how they'll rose to power (and they meet them only when they are barely starting, so it's entirely a feeling), so they usually give only one dragon per generation. And they usually have one design. Looking at this image, how their dragons seem to look and roar at each other, I can't but think Utabori made the dragon on Kiryu's back look in the opposite direction from the one Shibusawa has (a second design) exactly because he thought that 2 possible kings of the sky would have inevitably fought each other at some point, making their dragons roar at each other to determine which one is the true dragon of the sky

I had been on the fence about trying out the Yakuza games for ages, and I finally took the plunge. My god, this game has some of the best music I've ever heard. The story line is incredible as well. The main characters aren't your typical "zero to instant hero" protagonists, and the antagonists exist in more of a grey area than complete villainy. There's logic and emotion on both sides, allowing for a multifaceted character dynamic. It's masterfully done.

What's cool is the 3 Tojo Lieutenants could've been destined for true greatness in the yakuza world however something led them to their own failure. Daisaku Kuze: a man who was loyal to a T, but his pride overshadowed his judgement making him dishonor himself wanting to do anything to regain his pride. Kiryu made him realize pride isn't all that matters in the world and that he wanted the Yakuza to be more than mere thugs. Kuze sees the potential in Kiryu and feels threatened by him which is why he is so adamant on beating him. Hiroki Awano: A powerhouse of the yakuza who got tired of all the political bs and sought the easy way out of everything not caring about his position until meeting Majima who relit his ambition and reminded him how to be an honorable man. Majima even acknowledges Awano could have become great with his strength alone. Awano realized however if he made it to the top he would always be fighting someone trying to surpass him. Keiji Shibusawa: A man who became so obsessed with surpassing the past with making his own legend he was willing to incite a war to write his legend in the blood of others resulting in him losing his compassion and humanity. All he cared about was his legacy and achieving results no matter the cost which made him the most dangerous of all 3. Kiryu is literally Shibusawas polar opposite in every way. He is compassionate, despises fighting, hate seeing people die and cares about other people more than himself literally willing to risk his life to protect someone regardless of if he is injured or nearly dies in the process. Kiryu even empathizes with his enemies sometimes however needs to stop them before they hurt others. Kiryu earned the title Shibusawa wanted by having humanity. I have said this in other videos but these 3 should get their own spinoff set in the late 50s - early 60s when they were in their prime.

Whoever decided to include the small part at 1:03, right before the drop, where it shows Kiryu’s Dragon and then immediately shows Shibusawa’s after, and then shows both of theirs face to face on the drop, is a mad genius. It’s very subtle but it syncs with the music perfectly and creates an amazing sense of drama, which helped boost the “Oh Shit” factor when the Title card shows. These small things in Yakuza’s cinematography are one of the key factors that put the series so high on the list for me
@ZedanB2 жыл бұрын
I know this has definitely been mentioned before, but, in my opinion at least, this fight was so significant because of what it represented: Shibusawa, at least in my eyes, represented the darker path; if Kiryu had continued to show the undying, almost zealotry that most members of the Dojima Family (and by extension, the Tojo Clan) showed, this is what Kiryu could have become: A ruthless, murdering sychophant who plays dirty, targeting civilians and literally anyone else who stood in his way, to reach what he considered the very apex of his profession. Personally, Like a Dragon is my favorite Yakuza, but there's no doubt in my mind that 0 is one of, if not _the_ best written story, and filled with some of the most memorable characters and quotes you can find in any video game ever.

I love how different this theme is from the others, most of final boss themes, even for the evilest of them have a sad undertone, resembling their awful lives before they got on the Yakuza, but Shibusawa's theme hypes you up to destroy him with all you got like you are fighting with something that resembles evil itself and has to be put down by any means necessary for the greater good.

shibusawa being kiryu's final opponent for this game was perfect. i really like the trope of "evil scumbag who can actually hold their own in a fight" because it makes you so angry and you get hyped to defeat them once and for all when you face off
@NoNo-xh7ru2 жыл бұрын
There was a guy that said the best way to do this fight is rush, beast, dragon to match and surpass Shibusawa in every segment but personally I think the opposite is best. Beast in the first part represents Kiryu's rage going into this fight, his utter resentment for Shibusawa manifesting as overwhelming power that Shibusawa is not fast enough to dodge or strong enough to endure. In phase 2 it flips. Shibusawa grabs a table to hit Kiryu and he dodges. Normally Kiryu would go beast style to take advantage of all the objects but by now he's realized that Shibusawa is no normal opponent and he sees a weakness. In using rush style he avoids Shibusawa's powerful attacks and whittles down his health with superior agility and strategy. In the final phase all gloves are off, both go dragon style as a callback to the start of the fight where they butt shoulder and their dragon tattoos stare into each other's eyes. Kiryu uses his superior strength, speed, durability, and intelligence to earn his title as the Dragon of Dojima.

Imprinted on Shibusawa's back was a finished tattoo of a dragon, one who has risen through the ranks in a job where people tend to die young. On Kiryu's was another tattoo of a dragon, but unfinished, to a man who has and continues to fight through the struggles, the man known as the Dragon of Dojima, a man known as a Legend amongst the numbers of the Yakuza, a man who is feared. I think this is maybe the best final boss theme in the series still? There only are two boss themes that come close to this and that's For Whose Sake' and Fly. Nothing against a Scattered Moment, The Way of Life, For Faith, The Battle For The Dream, ISM and Overcoming The Dragon but man. Two Dragons, For Whose Sake, and Fly are just so powerful.

Assassination of Bodhisattva is good. It's really good. A fucking banger honestly but I still think I like Two Dragons more. Maybe I'll change my mind once I play Ishin for myself.
@juanmjx Жыл бұрын
@@japaneseambassador3562 Yeah the music hits way harder if you play the story and finally get to experience the build up to it. Unwavering Belief goes hard but, when you have the context it hits WAY harder. Two Dragons is definitely amazing since it was the first final boss theme I heard. I forget this song has 3 phases too

This may seem like a VERY weird connection to make, but I've been thinking too much on it- In a hypothetical series or derivative work, two characters seemingly abandon their folk-lore origins. One blended in with the background, while the other has only gone in further on said origins. In their final battle, it's a pure test of philosophy. Sure, they're evenly matched. One may despise the other more than said other does at all. Bottom line, here's how it goes. One who ran away from their inhumanity vs. One who _embraces it._ can't help but think this may or may not fit thematically with kiryu vs. shibusawa, leaning more towards it doesn't. idk im just a nerd who has too many thoughts, might not help that i just got into the series like a few weeks ago-

They never reach the peak on the same thing. While Yakuza 0 reaches the peak of bringing us Kiryu and Majima as new characters or the combat styles, other games from the saga reach the peak of a emotional, story-telling or even atmosphere point of view, sorry, my english is not perfect. But I can say you this, I played all the Yakuza saga and every one of their games are very good in their own way, so saying that Yakuza 0 is the peak of Yakuza is pretty abstract, but I recommend you to play more Yakuzas to bring your own opinion!
