I listened to Nest at a very young age. Their music was describing greatly the image of Finland in my mind. I grew up loving kantele and these images and asthe years flew by, Finland felt like home. Now that the situation is getting back to normal I have to visit Finland. Explore the country while listening to this kind of music. Bring my soul to it's Dreamland.

That's great to hear. It is very humbling that our music has had such an effect on your existence. If you make it to Finland, I heartily recommend you visit the more interesting places in nature here. Lapland is a great choise, of course. If you're traveling to cities, Nuuksio near Helsinki is great, as is Isojärvi near Tampere. Just search for national parks in Finland and you'll find plenty of astounding places.

I love it... I play kantele but as self taught also play from lowest to highest I love the delay and all it sounds beautiful. For me kantele is such a heavenly instrument. I am Spanish but I recently shared a song in Finnish and I include the sound in many of my songs.

I never heard of a Kantele before I watched this video and it is FANTASTIC . Then I read your comments to other people and found out you made your Kantele and a website on how to build one and the tuning you use . This is the mark of a true master . THANK YOU VERY MUCH . I have built a solid body electric Guitar (years ago) and was trying to guess the dimensions of your Kantele but now thanks to your help I don't have to . I have just finished ordering my tuners and pick ups and will get my wood tomorrow and get started . THANK YOU AGAIN ...YOU ARE FANTASTIC ...

Sorry about my late reply. I'm overjoyed to hear that my humble explorations in music and instrument building have inspired you to try your hand in building a kantele. I hope it goes well. I love building these things. It's a pleasant marriage between art and engineering, where I get to design something functional as well as express creativity in shaping the instrument. I'm actually currently designing a completely new model that has 18 strings and a bunch of other new ideas. I'll reveal it when I get around to finishing it and seeing how well it turns out.

Thank you for the comment. I hope it's interesting to see what the kantele looks like, and how it's played. My technique is a bit different from what's usually used for smaller kanteles like this. Still works, and produces an acceptable result.

This is amazing. I remember listening to Nest in some really dark times in my life and it really helped me through. For some reason I assumed the guy from Nest was the guy from October Falls (Marras October Falls, not that mainstream rubbish that shows up when I search for them). I could easily imagine a Kantele playing along with some October Falls.

Of course they end up different because they're arranged for solo kantele, without synths, drums, etc. At the same time I wanted to keep their essence intact, and the main themes recognizable.

Da Woid I guess I get what you mean. I don't miss ancient times at all though(how could I miss something I never experienced, eh?). Disease was rife, murder rates were ridiculously high, ignorance reigned, slavery, forest banditry was an actual daily hazard, extreme minority of people could even read etc., you could be branded a witch just for having certain wild plants grow in your yard. Most people ate the slop they could scrounge up as opposed to having choices of food, hunting in the king's forest could be punished by beheading etc. That doesn't sound like something I'd miss.

Truly touching and magnificent performance. I have had you on my TV, in the dimly lit corner of the room, just as the bards of old that you described. These two performances are playing on repeat, as I read 'Journeys in the Kali Yuga: A Pilgrimage from Esoteric India to Pagan Europe' by your fellow Finnish brethren Aki Cederberg. Since the first time I heard Nest, I was expecting a live performance and I have to say WOW! This is deep.. I hope someday to have a Kantele just to feel this ethereal sounds when i touch the strings... Has someone feel that sensation when you buy a new guitar and you play it the very first time?
