sorry but some bullshit women could become witchers BUT men were simply better, they had a better chance of surviving, probably only every 1/3 passed the grass test because in the books they considered making ciri a witcher, the surprise child rule meant that she had a 100% chance of surviving, such a plot armor, but they decided not to do it because one of the reasons would most likely be that she would lose her breasts as a result of smoking the whole thing fat in the body

It should be evident that these showrunners took Cavill for granted and are paying for it. I can’t fathom ignoring someone who wanted a series to be accurate as possible to the lore? Did these clowns ever watch the Jackson LOTRS movies? Yeah they had changes but they were good and adapted the vital things. Seriously, Netflix and Hisrich didn’t deserve Cavill. I hope Warhammer goes well for him.

@@EndymionTv Not only that, they have Invincible and The Boys, which are incredibly good, then they also have Wheel of Time. To me, it seems that Amazon makes either 10/10s or 1/10s, and not really anywhere in between. Thing is, the content that has done well was headed by people who actually care, and the content that has been bad is headed by people who don't seem to care about the source material. Doesn't seem like Amazon puts their hands into it if the person making it is confident in the material they're working with. With Henry Cavill at the helm, this seems more likely to be a 10/10

Same here but I’m an American with immigrant parents. It sucks that the main things Hollywood focuses on now is diversity, race, gender, and sexual orientations for most movies and shows nowadays. When a white fictional character gets race swapped and gets other major changes, it’s for the better good of representation. But do that to any other character, it’s racism and disrespectful.

We live in an era where most writers don't know what the word adaptation means anymore. They're literally fanfic writers who do whatever they want with the source material and then get offended when you don't like it. It's truly impressive.

That's a bit of an insult to fanfic writers. 😅 Now there's a lot of bad fanfics out there, but I have read some very good ones that are well thought out and respectful of the source material while having its own unique spin. But I do mostly agree, the morons who are making "adaptations" like the Netflix Witcher series, are the worst kind of writers. They just hijack a pre-exsiating story and turn it into their own "work", because they are creatively bankrupt and don't want to put in the effort to make a franchise or a fanbase from scratch.

Fanfics get the pass because they're written and published for free by regular people, from the inexperienced to the talented ones. But this sh*t is far worse than the worst fanfics I've read. That's the point. The writers, the showrunner and so on only need to appeal to the out of touch in-crowd. The shows can bomb as far as they're concerned provided they've hit the political message beats, because that guarantees they'll be hired again and again by those like them. The viewers, meaning us, can all go collectively f- themselves, because it's not as if we have an alternative - every other network/production/etc are doing the same sh-. It's like trying to buy a phone that's not built in a factory where people try to kill themselves out of desperation - there isn't one available to buy. But wait, there's more - there are new ratings models that include social media mentions, so every time we trash the show here or on twitter, it's being interpreted as being 'more in demand'. So, guess what, the execs at Netflix will be told the show is an unmitigated success even as viewership drops.

I find it funny in a kind of way, that ever since Cavill was cast as Superman, he has seemed to internalize his optimistic outlook on life and generally gentlemanly attitude. Whatever he might be like in person, he certainly brings a level of class, both in manners, in appearance, and it would appear in vocabulary as well into everyday Hollywood gossip that has been a sorely missing part of the industry for the past 2-3 decades. Right bow the guy appears like a sort of beacon of normalcy in the ever more degenerate entertainment media world.

I just don't get how people can mess up adaptations. All you have to do is follow what has been written down. It's like a fill in colouring book. You just have to colour in the lines. It's so hard to mess up even for kids. But Hollywood consistently seems to ruin this.

This really hurts. When I was a little Slavic girl, I completely fell in love with the games and books as they finally gave me something that almost screamed 'SLAVIC.' There were so many relatable things in them. I was excited when I heard about the adaptation and Henry Cavill playing the Witcher, but now it just breaks my heart. I am getting a bit political here - but I feel like in the USA, the only culture that is respected and propagated is their own, and maybe Black culture (this is what it looks like to me as an outsider, so I may be wrong). It feels wrong when looking at Cleopatra or other "historical" films, series, and documents where Netflix and other companies disrespect historical facts, cultures, and traditions... Maybe in the future, there will be some kind of adaptation that is more truthful to the source material.

"Go broke, get woke, ultimately croak!" These are words from another KZbinr I follow. Any company that placates to the ESG is doomed to die through the poison they ingest. Netflix is no exception. Let the parasites in, don't act surprised when they eat you from within. Then again, given what a Netflix rep said to Kevin about the then 250 million or so subscribers Netflix had about Masters of the Universe: Revelations, they seem to believe that every subscriber watches everything on Netflix instead of the same things over and over again. "Let them die" as Kirk once said. They don't care about the quality, only The Message, and that message is being heard by less and less people.

I've never watched the Netflix series, only read the books and played the games. The best thing they could have done was adapt the first two books which contain only short stories and leave it at that. Then again, it's Netflix, and I don't give that company any money after their whole Cuties thing. As much as I loved the series, it seriously starts to drag on at times. The best parts are when Geralt and his crew are the focus of the story. Not Yen, not Ciri, not Jarre, not the tower keeper and the fisherman. Actually, towards the end, it wasn't even Geralt that kept the story going, but rather Milva, Cahir, Regis, and Angouleme. And then the books just end unceremoniously with Geralt and Yen's bodies being carried off by a magical unicorn who appeared out of nowhere.

They cancelled a lot of it. 13 Reasons Why was very popular despite being toxic so popularity of the show will not tell you if it is good or bad. Netflix is not a responsibile company. Netflix underestimated Henry Cavill's overall popularity and mass appeal. In some ways I actually feel bad for Liam Hemsworth (who's taking over playing Geralt) because not only does he have to follow the class act that's Cavill, but he's taking the lead role in a show that's spiraling and he'll likely receive some blame for it, even though I doubt he has any say in the script or characterization.

This is the last season we'll watch, and after that the show is over for us. I actually liked the first season, but the second one was really hard to get through. Blood Origin was down right shit. I don't have high expectations of the season 3, but I'll watch it as a goodbye to Henry, and after that I'm done. Henry was the reason the fans stayed with the show. Without him, I'm just going back to the novels and the games.

As someone who has read the books and played the games when I heard Netflix was going to produce the Witcher I was thrilled believing I was going to see what I'd so far experienced come to life on TV. According to what was said by the showrunner the TV show was going to follow the source material. The first season started out great until Mousesack was killed , that was the first red flag , the next came with Fringilla Vigo who is Anna Henrietta's cousin (so how's that supposed to work) and the story line with Triss . Season two took the story even further astray with killing off Eskel and Ciri being possessed , killing off witchers with Yennifer set on betraying Ciri .This was not what I was expecting. The writers had one job witch was to recreate the books not write their own so I wasn't surprised when Cavill left. I'll probably look at season 3 but it won't be for the enjoyment of seeing the stories come to life but to see how much more the writers can screw it up.

I think you hit it on the head with “if you treat what people love with respect, the work will speak for itself,” the whole point of creating these shows is to capitalize off of an existing fan base, so why would pleasing & respecting that fan base not be #1 priority? If you’re going to argue that it’s art and therefore you should have free reign, make up your own story…

Dead on. If you want to do whatever, go and do it! I'll take it on it's own strengths and weaknesses. But if you are doing anything to make money from an existing audience, THAT is your target market. You make a product for a specific market, or you can't compete in any market. I personally don't think it's fair to say the Mandalorian has gone bad cause they focused on Bo Katan. They stated basically from the start that Mandalore was more or less ruined and they needed a new home, Mando found out the truth that it wasn't, so obviously everyone wants to return to the home of their people, but they would need a proper leader so they took the time to put Bo Katan into power so we can get back to Mando and Grogu adventuring the galaxy. I do agree it felt like they got a bit sidelined, but it was just for story telling purposes rather than just girlbossing as far as I saw.

How to market a popular franchise: Step 1- Acquire the rights to an established franchise with a loyal fanbase. Step 2- Hire showrunners who have no knowledge of the franchise, or who actively hate it. Step 3- Hire writers who have no interest in telling the story _of_ the franchise and/or who have a completely unrelated/incompatible story _they_ want to tell. Step 4- Pre-emptively attack the loyal fanbase, because even though you paid through the nose for a franchise that had a loyal fanbase, you don't want _those_ kind of fans. Step 5- Blame the fanbase, that you pre-emptively attacked, for the inevitable failure of your insane strategy. Step 6- Promote showrunners to an even higher position because it wasn't _their_ fault and it would look bad for you to fire someone who ticked all the right boxes, which is the only reason you hired zir in the first place.
