Its crazy because if you see the off camera interviews with the cast. They act more like the cartoon characters then when they are on set. I don't blame the actors, I blame the director
@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr

Agree. I thought it was the actors up until I started thinking everyone in the cast was acting poorly. Every single person on set. Save a couple performances I enjoyed. That’s when I realized that’s not as likely as the director and I definitely hated the writing throughout as well. Now, I’m on the actors side. It was the director and the Netflix writers at fault. Although, I don’t think Avatar guys would’ve made it any better. I’ve lost hope in them since Korra. Besides, apparently there were 14 other writers of the Avatar tv series so it wasn’t all those 2. I think that’s part of why I hated Korra which they had more control over. That was their project supposedly. Even if there might’ve been tv meddling. It was a project they had control of and I hated that thing since day 1. I hated their episodes here, too. Apparently, they’re responsible for the beginning episodes 1 & 2. Also, the disappointing Roku episode. Episode 6. I think there were parts I liked of 6 (Blue Spirit and Zuko’s division), but I was ultimately let down. I loved Kyoshi in the series. This was Roku’s time to shine though and even in the scene he got, I was majorly disappointed. I preferred the other episodes in the Netflix series. I’ve also heard they were team more changes to Netflix Avatar. I don’t believe they care to truly make a return to Avatar Aang’s story. From what I understood over the years of Avatar projects before this current one, that was clear. They did not want to return to the story. Only other Avatars, Korra, and more recently, the closest they’ve come up returning to Aang is this Netflix adaptation as it is and Aang gang all grown up. That might be fun, but I’m a tad worried about that idea. Every other idea is one set in the world, but it’s not gonna be Aang and the gang. Netflix Avatar might’ve been more faithful than those two had in mind.

My biggest problem is that they seemed to approach the series with the mindset of “What can we fix?” when that’s NOT how you approach something that is beloved for a reason. The best adaptations ask the question “what can we ADD?”
@imlivingunderyourbed7845
@imlivingunderyourbed7845 9 ай бұрын
The sad thing is that the adaptation is capable of adding cool new details that was a missed opportunity from the original. There are so few however, like: •Sokka challenging Zuko to an honourable duel •The men that joins Zuko's ship are those that he defended during the war meeting •The Earthbenders that captured Iroh mentioned that they lost loved ones during his siege of Ba Sing Se, and want to get back at him for that. I have no doubt that only the writers of the original show can come up with that.
@michaellane5381
@michaellane5381 9 ай бұрын
Agreed, "change" isn't exactly the problem, but when you have a 10/10 DON'T "FIX" ANYTHING if a guy uses an 8-track for tunes in his spaceship there is reason for it, if that reason isn't tied to age/setting but imagined limitations you can update it... But if not leave it alone as flavor unique to the work. If realistic scenes are hard to do 1 to 1 consider just cutting them rather than changing them, if you change them your adaptation needs to stand alone, but if you cut them there is rewatch value for both series especially if you add subplots with favored unused side characters. And please never change tones of an existing story adaptation... It works great for setting adaptations with new stories but not the exact same story told slightly different, it's like if you just tried making the Lion King into a porno, sure people might watch the latter but they aren't doing it for the IP or story, they are doing it for other reasons you can have without wasting cash on IP rights.

Not having Aang run away, is such a mistake, that effects the whole rest of the show. There was a lot to criticize. Bad dialogue is because of bad writers. Bad acting is because of bad directing. Bad CGI is because of bad vfx artists. (They had the money and time, so what's the excuse?) 6.5 is where I'm at too. You can clearly see the love that went into this. But love ain't enough. Gotta have talent, and I just don't think this was made by talented people.

There are certain reasons ppl still in love with the OG animation. U just can't delete most of them and try to compensate with flashy CGI, then say "take it as something different". It doesn't work. Fans stay fan for so long for certain reasons. U can't take away those reasons. U can't say accept whatever we are presenting since it has same name/IP. This has become a disease in current entertainment industry. They lost ability to create their own classics so what they do is vandalize already existing ones in greed of cashing the nostalgia and loyalty of fans, then ignore the same fans while making it. The biggest culprits are the ones who keeps saying "it wasn't that bad", "they are not same" or "don't judge them too early" and defend such mediocre and awful stuff. Fans doesn't show up to see how u can twist their loved franchise, they show up to see the thing they love once more, maybe in a new setup. U can't change characters, story, theme and say "just accept it. U are a fan, no? How can u dislike ur own favorite show since it has same name?". The backlash is pretty strong now as u see in Disney and Marvel. We seen what happened to Snow white. There is still time to understand why such adaptations don't work at all, unless u love backlashes and losses. If u don't wanna get compared, don't use a classic and try to replicate it. Want own ideals and views to be shown, want ur own version? Write ur own damn story. Don't expect no one will question u after u vandalize their treasure for ur own whims and fancies

It was always going to be. They treated this the same as the anime adaptations. Gave us the same amount of episodes, too. Same amount as One Piece. At least it wasn’t 5 episodes like Yuu Yuu Hakusho. And the episodes only cover book one. YYH covered everything up to even the Dark Tournament and then even not really the tournament. That is it covered a huge chunk of the franchise in only 5 episodes. It is a shame we can’t even get the 12 episodes Erased received. That was a long time ago though. Every one since has been only 5-8 episodes. I don’t remember the number given to Bebop. Never watched that one. It wasn’t 12 though. I only went out and watched these starting at One Piece. Kenshin movies were a decent live action, although, I think that one was Japanese not a Netflix one. It is on Netflix though. Some of them.

I actually liked the Bumi change. It made sense and really felt like he’d been experiencing the war for that entire 100 years. A lot of the events lost meaning in getting adapted to live action.
@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr
@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr 10 ай бұрын
@@MunchkkinzIn all fairness, that change annoyed me, but I don’t think it would truly matter to the people the Avatar is meant to protect. There definitely would be people angry about that whether Aang had run or not. Whether he was a child or not. Because to them it only means the Avatar wasn’t there for them. That they could no longer rely on the Avatar. So, I’m annoyed, agreed, but I don’t think that was the worst change. There’s bigger issues. Although, that change does go on to create some of the later issues that have the series coming apart. I guess I wasn’t as bothered by that change, I suppose, because I think given the chance, I think Aang would go back as well. He just never got that chance in the series. The change is still a flaw that bothers me though because it removes some of Aang’s flaws. Even though, this flaw is only him being a child. It was still a flaw and the series was worse off by removing it.

Zhou's actor was actually not great at all. Zhou in the original show is a deep character. He is most definitely a dangerous character and deserved a surprise return in Season 4 (that should've happened) as a Spirit Ghost or some other way (I could see him returning to harrass Fire Lord Zuko). He was very complex in his ambition, think his discovery of The Library and planning years in advance to kill the Moon spirit. The actor on Netflix did not capture the intimidating aspect of Zhou and felt very cheesy and not serious. His role as the villian in Rush Hour as a younger actor was so much better and serious than his role as a matured actor for Zhou on Netflix. I never felt like Zhou was someone to be feared and his death proved that he was just a puppet. Weak villians in the Netflix. Overall disappointing.

I know people love the 45th division thing, I'm not so in on it, by making it that he was the one that saved them it pretty much makes them obligated to serve him, while in the show he not only earns their respect as a person because of the type of man he is, but also for saving his crew during the present time of the episode and choosing to escape the storm and prioritize the ship and the crew's safety over chasing the avatar who has just seen pass by him. Showing that he can still choose his own man's safety over his obsession over the avatar and earn their respect as a person rather than a savior. Though with all that said it wasn't a horrible change, the delivery certainly was, but the change is fine, I just think it was better as it was.

The original also let the viewer understand how isolated zuko is. Even his own crew don t trust him and almost mutiny. While not bringing much usefull info.

@@etienne8110 That's also a huge problem for me, he was isolated and obsessed with the avatar and neglected his uncle, which built up their relationship later on in the story and also made sense for Zuko's betrayal, and at the end all his regrets both when facing him while talking about his grandfather, Roku, and finally when he meets him at the end and asks for his forgiveness it hits that much harder. Meanwhile in this his relationship with Iroh is a lot closer for whatever reason. Also Iroh's son's situation was revealed far far too early, maybe for those that already know about it can work, but for those that don't know they barely got to know Iroh to feel sad for his son's death. You forgot one of the stupidest changes ever, one the changed Aang whole character. Aang got told he was the avatar then he went for a joy ride and got frozen and everyone died the same day. The issue with this tho is that clearly Aang didn't run away YET everyone still treats him as if he did like in the cartoon. The major difference this does to Aangs character is that Aang did in fact run away like everyone tells him and the problem with this was Aang is racked with survivors guilt as well as "Could I have saved my people and preventable 100 years of suffering?" In the netflix show there is no doubt that if Aang stayed he would have died with everyone else but in the cartoon it is unclear if he would have been able to prevent the war, for instance they told Aang he was the avatar and he started training and some time had passed, Aang then ran away and got frozen and after a undisclosed amount of time the fire nation attacked. In the span of 3 seasons Aang manages to learn but not fully master all four elements and the avatar state in what some people have claimed to be roughly 9-10 months, but it was enough to stop fire lord Ozai who IIRC was ment to be stronger then fire lord Sozin, but even then Aang didn't really need to beat the fire lord back then, just stopped the initial invasions with the help of every other nation back when they were all at their strongest and not 100 years of war beaten down and after 100 years were all roughly closed off from each other. So if the fire nation took longer then a year to start the invasion or whenever Sozins comet would arrive, then Aang could have (with the help of all the other nations) stopped the initial invasions and thus stopped the 100 year war before it began. Because they simply made the change of Aang joy riding to clear his head and wondered into a storm instead of him emotionally torn running away DURING a storm they removed the internal struggle Aang secretly held onto his ENTIRE life. One of the biggest reasons Aang went from "I don't wanna be the avatar." to "I have to be the avatar." Was that he realized that the monks were right and after it hit him that 100 years of war had passed it made him realize he was wrong for running away and blames himself just like everyone else does. It's only after one of the best duality back story episodes does Aang begin to forgive himself BUT he still has that drive of "Never again" and that is why he pushes himself to become the avatar because he doesn't want what happened before to happen again, he doesn't wanna fail the world a second time. In the netflix show Aang just doesn't wanna fail the world, he never got a first chance, he never ment to leave and abandon being the avatar he was just processing the news and then sudden "WHOOPS!" In the cartoon Aang fully ment to run and give up on being the avatar thinking the world would be just fine without him, well turns out he was wrong and he got a very quick reality check or at least to him because he thought he was in the ice for a few days rather then 100 years. Netflix's version of Aang has barely any level of depth to the character while the cartoon has so many levels it was like an onion. That is just my personal opinion with Aang, I have so much to say about all the other characters too and how they failed every one of them like my favorite character Zuko, but with Aang I felt it was the biggest change because he just it took like 90% of his character and with a small change of context, ruined everything about him and his growth.

Glad others agree, all the character changes irk me so much. They had goddamn Iroh excusing war crimes when captured by that earthbender. Did they even see the original? At what point did the OG writers abandon this project? Can’t have been much further than the name of the series because taking the opening scene off the mundane fishing trip with Sokka and Katara already sours the mood for the rest of it

Just one gripe, you say the cartoon is voiced by adults at 6:49, but Aang, and Toph's actors are their characters' ages and Sokka's is not far off. Katara and Zuko's VAs are a lot older, but over half the Gaang is voiced by a younger cast near their characters' age and Aang in particular has some amazing emotion and delivery throughout the show.

I can agree i like small changes when they enhance the story add value. Like how they changed aang from being a kid running from his responsibilities and that's the reason he didn't die as a child to him going out to clear his head it really emphasizes just how amazing aang was. It also made it seem like the spirit world was really working to find balance by protecting him by trapping him.

Main issue with “team avatar” is that most of time they’re separated from each other so they can cram a bunch of storylines in one ep. They barely have time together to build chemistry. Also I’m pretty sure Aang is just gonna master waterbending between s1 and 2 so it’ll probably start with a scene of Katara spelling it out.

I've been saying this about video game devs who fail the next installment like Gotham Knights or Saints Row. Their ego gets in the way, they develop a deep disdain for their predecessors and try to out do them but aren't as talented. All they have to do is copy and paste BUT take out what didn't work and try to add something new.

I watched and didn't see her "learn" anything, it just happened all of a sudden 🤦🏽‍♂️

The golden era was 1992- approximately 1998. There are good shows after that, but it wasn’t weird to see a bad show like it was during the golden era of Nickelodeon. Also, the earlier in that period, the better the station was. By the time they started All That, things were already starting to decline in quality. It's rather sad to realize they had like 2-3 really big years, and everything great after that was mostly additional seasons of the shows they had already added, a couple cartoons, Game Shows, and them snagging Kenan and Kel as actors.

For those that think it sucks, y’all better not watch book 2 and 3 because y’all are impossible to please over a damn live action show expecting it to be exactly like the cartoon. Some things just can’t be replicated without it being cringey or out of place, and live action is one of them. Imagine if they made a live action Pokémon or Dragon Ball Z and see how out of place characters can be by replicating exactly every line and episode.
