I see there have been many videos posted on this topic, including some debunking or challenging the accuracy of various stats used in the documentary. I'd to have folks commenting on any facet of this Netflix documentary, or my review/commentary, as they wish.

Welp no more fish for me. No big loss. I don't eat a lot of meat to begin with. I have found that it's very hard to change someone's beliefs about their diet. As a nurse, I've taken care of patients who have had heart attacks and bypass surgery tell me they would rather die than change how they ate. That's addiction. As consumers we have the power to affect change. Can we move away from large corporations and use smaller locally sourced family owned businesses? Would that even be enough? I'm curious to see if this gains as much traction as Blackfish did. Thanks for taking the hit and watching this and for breaking it down for us. I knew it would be painful to watch.

@11:40 ish- The By-catch issue; The way I see it, the laws trying to protect are doing all the damage. The good law abiding fisherman, is forced to throw the dead/dying shark back into the water. While else where there is still a demand for shark meat, so another fisherman goes out and catches another shark. So now we have 2 dead sharks to fill the demand for 1.

But either way there is two dead sharks, if the shark survives being released back you then have 1 dead shark ?

I have been to Japan and I think they are good people in general but lets not BS. Between them and China they have fished their ocean dry. There is a reason we ship Bluefin Tuna from The US east coast to Japan. I was taught in my sociology class in college that southeast Asia is the reason there is so much plastic in the ocean. I believe it because the only other place I have seen so much plastic trash was in the Middle East but they didn’t border an ocean. I believe that Seaspiracy is completely plausible.

Pretty much every 2nd word you use is, I don't really know or not exactly. You say according to my information, but give no sources. In my eyes this video is neither informative nor interesting, because it is nothing but clickbait, everyone wants to report about this important and grandiose documentary and get their share of it, but most of them, like this video post are nothing but garbage.

Thanks for adding your 0.02$, Klaus. As always, YMMV. I’m guessing you’re just trolling, but just in case you’re not, I’ll respond. Not sure if it was every 2nd, word, but you, if the sources cited in the video were correct, I cannot be sure. I know we all data can be manipulative or distorted in sampling. The three points I had the most extrapolation on were sustainability, wild vs. domesticated food source, the whaler’s point. About the value of taking one kind of life over another. Finally, there were also some philosophical musings about the shame of needing to take lives at all in order to live. Kind of like a evolutionary/biblical curse. If you watched and had any opinions on those particular points. That could be a fruitful exchange 👍

@@DiscoveryDiversTokyo I think you have not understood the basics of Seaspiracy. The part about whaling, Taiji etc. is just an example that in the end this doesn't matter when you look at commercial fishing and the absolute extinction of all marine life and all the plastic that is left behind. Of course every life plays a role, I myself live vegan and in a society like Japan Central Europe or semi-industrialized it is easily possible to eat purely plant-based. I was myself in taiji, you say you have never heard of pest control in connection with dolphin killing, so you should go there and talk to the dolphin killers, so you will hear these words quickly. But in taiji it is mainly about snatching dolphins from their families and training them for shows. It is as unnecessary as eating meat and animal products, at least in the wealthy societies we live in. I will never get the images and sounds I saw and heard in Taiji out of my head. And I will continue to fight against it. Nevertheless, dolphins, sharks and whales are dying as bycatch in commercial fishing nets. That's why this has to stop.
