I really appreciate you for saying this. I agree. Media has become a constantly morphing entity that creeps in new things we don't like or agree with but we've already paid for a membership and don't have a ton of options. Its becoming harder and harder to be a consumer now.

The worse part is that they are creating a terrible culture on their platform by doing stuff like this. The whole point of Netflix is that people can pay attention to shows/movies they've never seen before or classics they can revisit now. They should focus more on that...

It’s because so many people want to listen to rewarding stories without having to constantly look at it. Many people do this at my job with movies and shows. This should be its own sub-genre. Unfortunately it might just bring down quality of a lot of movies.

I see what you are saying. But its not like multi-tasking to TV or movies has not been a reality for decades. If people want this then Netflix (or whoever) should invest in audio dramas like they have on Spotify like Old Time Radio was. Movies are a specifc artform that should not be tinkered with. If Netflix invested in higher quality content you better believe people would pay closer attention to it.

Any source? Or is it actually about making descriptive audio for blind viewers being available everywhere on Netflix?

Damn dude. If I think something's happening I'll switch back to it. Let me be distracted, but when I am paying attention, I want it to be good. This sounds like I'm being talked down to, like a child. Also, how do you think a movie critic is going to react? They aren't going to be impressed. Those who are should be fired, or we can black list their opinions.

Agreed. The movies they do this with are reviewed poorly for a reason. Just a pure money grabbing scheme smh.

Well darn, and I thought working out on an exercise machine while watching my Netflix shows was imaginably distracting enough, but now I can't even do that because the thing my eyes are glued to won't even be a reward anymore?

Agreed. I hope this won't be a norm for streamers

If Netflix really wants to go down this sort of path of making stuff that you don't have to look at, they should probably ditch making movies, and maybe pivot to audio dramas. 🤔i agree with you that this internal thing they were telling screenwriters is dystopian and will bring down the quality of those who like watching movies. I dont know what their internal metrics are and the whole blackbox of what they view as successful and determing how to pay those that have their stuff on Netflix, but stuff needs to change. It'd be interesting if Netflix could do some kind of survey for what they've been up to and allowed an essay length feedback section. A terrible idea i know, since most would probably put slurs in it and say stuff like everything was woke and to bring back quality stuff without without being specific. But probably mean something like, bring back the level of quality of stuff being released early 2000s + 1990s pre-streaming. Sorry for that side tangent😅 If they wanted something where viewers didnt need to look at the screen, maybe they could take a look at some of their metric demo stuff, and try audiodramas. But make those things a side bar in Netflix separate from actual movies and TV. There could still be a visual component, but you could maybe make it really well done storyboards. In the off chance you want to peak in here and there when you are listening to this in the background. The closest equivalent i can think of as a reference point for cinematic and narration might be the Focus on the Family Narnia audiodramas. Thank u for reading if you went through this long run on comment 😅

I agree. I can see Netflix making audio dramas or maybe (Unfortunately) Top tier podcasts based on their original shows or like Top charted podcasts. But dumbing down movies and TV for people who aren't paying attention is a bad way to do business. You had a great take. Thanks for the comment!

@saucelessentertainment I can still see them importing movies. But maybe just having a separate tab for audio drama stuff to have in the background. As for the movies they make that are in that are being made in tell don't show mode as you describe, it would be nice if they just stop making those kinds of things overall. As far as internal movies or shows they make. But if they do just need to have descriptions in there, maybe they could emphasize this disability feature I saw years ago on some DVDs. I think it was called audio description feature. I think it's for people that might be vision impaired. It pretty much describes the scene and some actions that are going on in what's playing. I only used that feature once, just bc I never saw it before and was curious. It was for that 2012 or 2013 Green Hornet movie. I've no idea how good that feature is overall to use and if it helps for viewing stuff if you're multi tasking or background watching. 🤔 🤷♂️
