As rich, white business owners monopolize newly-available marijuana licenses, states continue to arrest people of color for cannabis crimes, even after it’s legal. This leads Hasan to ask: if cannabis can’t be legalized fairly, should it be legalized at all?

If you haven’t succeeded in life either you didn’t work hard enough, or you work hard in something stupid. As long as you major in stem you will be fine in life. @@cancerino666 It's about killing the competition, first for legal drugs, then for marijuana once popular demand rose. It wasn't because starting a business is too much work, but because they didn't see the financial benefits of the industry. Now that they do, people like this can flip-flop on the issue, lobby for the laws that support their investments, and capitalize off the profits while pushing out minorities and/or small business.

Joshua Lane nah it was actually the tobacco industry that got into the masses heads to rid competition. Think about the negative connotations associated with “pot heads” yet it’s perfectly fine when people drink alcohol occasionally or previously even smoke although Tabacco was advertised with “health benefits” not as much today bc so many people got fucked over and died. If you smoke weed in public some will still scuff but if your at a bar your not automatically labeled an alcoholic from being seen doing it once. That’s why you can’t just believe everything at face value and do your own research on things you consume/buy into

But lets be honest. The only reason weed was made legal is because people from corporate america saw a way to mske money off the weed strains made popular by the little guy. Im so disgusted at yet another win for the rich 1% just getting richer off the backs of minorities. Buy your weed from a local dealer. The US isn't even top 15 in healthcare in most studies and rankings (primarily due to access and costs, there's also lower success rates for curable and manageable diseases almost across the board). For education the US is higher in the ranking, but not #1 (once again, if you can afford it, its anywhere from fine to great, but you need money for it to be decent). Wealth? I mean the US is certainly top heavy, so I don't really know how you measure that in as all it does is skew the numbers up? The US also has the 28th spot in people living below the poverty line. That puts it below countries and statistical bodies like Serbia, Thailand, Vietnam, The European Union, and Canada.

Me: **sees an Indian swami in the American weed business** "Aww desi represent" Swami: *_*turns out to be a white dude who "attained nirvana" in India and moved back to the states to sell weed in the name of Ganesh_** Me: Ah shiz not again ;_; Edit: this comment isn't about the principal deity or white guys being named swami, it is about people expecting marginalised communities to breakthrough traditional barriers of class and race, facing ridicule and struggle because of their race or ethnicity but at the same time how a particular individual from a particular race need not have to go through those same barriers but can still achieve the same goals, under a banner of another culture. There's nothing wrong in growing weed around ganesh, but when the system systematically excludes minorities while allowing the privileged to make a buck out of the very identities it seeks to discourage, the irony is alarming.

It's all in the word games "they" use. We don't need "legalized" marijuana, we need "decriminalized" marijuana. "Legalized" allows for government control. Same as it was when it was against the law. "Decriminalized" means do whatever you want. Keyword to do with "legalize" is LICENSE. Decriminalize doesn't require a license.

By the way, they fly helicopters that detect marijuana, and it can detect... even one plant. And... lol, if you have it in your basement, if they think for any reason you are growing, they will just say they got a 911 call about a suspected burglary, or anything else, and just come right in. No warrent, just come right in. Then, after finding the plants, they will "hold" you until they get a judge to issue a warrant.
