Philipinos are SO nice in general. I found out because I used to rent a room from a philipino family and they always treated me like a family member. And my mom had just divorced my dad and didn't had money to pay rent. So she went to the laundry place and got a phone from a philipino family that was renting a room. They were nice enough to wait until the 15 of the month to receive the rent and did not charge us deposit. I am eternally grateful with Philippinos.

Honest question: How does someone look Latino? I thought this term is applied based on a geopolitical reason i.e. people from countries South of the US border who speak Latin based languages. It seems Mestizos (Chicanos) from Mexico are now the default Latinos (people in Mexico don't call themselves Latino) because 75% of Latinos are from Mexico, but other inhabitants are not by default. In Miami, Hispanics are Cubans by default. That is why I get surprised when I hear terms like Afro-latino. There are millions of people South of the US border that speak Spanish, Portuguese and French that are of African descent. Same applies to Middle Eastern (Palestinian and Lebanese: Mexico's richest person Carlos Slim is a Maronite Christian) and Japanese (Brazil and Peru: eg Ex president Fujimori). Most of the countries are dominated by mostly white-looking elite class. My two cents.
@user71285
@user71285 5 жыл бұрын
@@kundakaps You answered your own question. To look "Latino" implies to look mestizo, considering that 1) Mexicans are by far the biggest Hispanic/Latino population in the U.S. and 2) most Mexicans are mestizo. Of course, mestizo itself is a spectrum but as long as you look mestizo enough (i.e you're not too white/european or too indigenous), you'll pass as your "typical" Latino. And black latinos get called afro-latinos because they are in most cases a tiny minority in most latin american countries and aren't sizeable enough to be anywhere near the majority in some countries (with the only exception being the Dominican Republic).

Good luck with trying to do a "Chinese" accent! It's like asking him to mimic a "European" accent. There are simply too many Chinese communities with different language / dialect backgrounds: There is (mainland) Mandarin with its weird r, singsong Cantonese, Teochow that sounds like your stereotypical Chinese from classic Hollywood blockbusters, Malaysian-Singaporian-Chinese with its crispy pronunciation, not to mention, Hispanic-Chinese, they are all present in America! I myself am a proud Hakka who can still speak the Hakka language with his parents, with ease even, while I'm chatting with my siblings and friends rather in Dutch (and with some in English), having grown up in Holland. That's something that it's difficult to get their head around for most Americans and mainland Chinese.

Because philippines was colonized by spain for 300 years and many mexicans migrated here. Mixed spanish and mexican. My last name is magallanes a Portuguese name in english magellan, and ferdinand magellan was a famous Portuguese navigator and discovered that the world is round. Magellan was summoned through the order of king philip of spain and the word philippines or philippine was inspired by king philip of spain
