@@Hun_Uinaq I believe it all stems to *intentions*. If people are just unsure and mistake people's ethnicity due to uncertainty with no malice, there shouldn't be a reason to be mad about it. But there are situations where some people just don't care, remain ignorant, and are unwilling to learn, and intentionally assume someone's ethnicity as mockery and to intend to insult others(aka racists), then that's a reason for people to be upset. Like in high school, there were students who'd just call me Chinese or Jackie Chan, or assume I speak Japanese and continually doing so, even if I've told them I'm Filipino and I don't know Chinese or Japanese. They purposely do so to mock and insult, and those are the situations I got upset and I call them out, because they're basically racists(on top of being called gook and chink but that's another story). Then there are people who'd come up and ask if I were [insert Asian ethnicity here] out of curiosity. I don't get upset on that and I just politely correct them. And these can be good conversation topics and icebreakers and people learn something new. But I agree, I feel like there are people out there who are too sensitive and easily get upset on the most minor things lol

No offense taken! I'm only half Filipino but after learning the history, when it comes to the Spanish influence inthe Philippines, I feel the most similarity with Mexican people. Filipinos are like Mexican peoples reaaaaaly far away cousins, who only speak a little bit of spanish(unless your from Zamboanga) but it was because the Filipinos got most of their Spanish because of dealing with Mexicans.
@kuyadomeng3 жыл бұрын
There's a province in the Philippines called Zamboanga,most of them really look like Mexican and their dialect is almost Spanish..some of our local dialect as well derive from Spanish language.

My grandma spoke chabacano and she conversed really well with the Mexicans here in the states. From my understanding, it's basically Spanish with a lot of slang.
@alistairt75443 жыл бұрын
Yes! My maternal grandma's side are all Chavacanos. What's interesting is the variety of Spanish that Chavacano is based on is actually Mexican Spanish, because a lot of soldiers employed by the Spaniards that were stationed in Zamboanga were from Mexico. The Spanish of Chavacano in Manila like Ermiteño, Cavite, etc., were based on Castillian Spanish, because of the Spaniards in Intramuros who spoke Castillian dialect.

Correct. I am from Zamboanga and we still spoke Chavacano even up to this day. The Spanish slang is still very healthy.

@AutistAslan Hello there. Most of us Filipinos don’t actually have Spanish DNA. Try watching walking tour in our country, most of us don’t look like Mexican. There are many videos of Filipinos who take DNA ancestry test here in KZbin, they look disappointed when they found out they don’t have Spanish DNA. It’s only in the colonial mentality of Filipinos especially the older generation that having more “Western Genes” will make you superior. Colonial mentality is also the reason why they keep on telling that we look Mexican even though we look very different from you guys.
