in regard to the park/paak, similar to how in cantonese, some words are written with an r as well. (cha siu/char siu) when things were being translated/romanized to English, English speakers weren't able to distinguish the short a and long a. the long a sound is mostly heard in ar words, so it was written down in that way. it's like how new yorkers say park or barber. at least that's my understanding of why this happened.
