The thing is, though, Caitlin's not actually going against it. She's utilizing a tool that can help her and her strike team clean house efficiently. Setting aside the 2 terrorist attacks in Piltover, It's still a mess down there with all the chembarons warring for control, and innocent people are actually getting caught in the crossfire. By using the ventilation system, she can redirect the Gray to specific criminal hotspots and do her job without involving actual innocents. And the Gray had always been there thanks to mining in the fissures, so calling it chemical warfare is just flat-out ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure they only targeted the areas where the chembarrons are operating and the Montage shows they mainly released it inside buildings and not just all over the street. The thing is, though, they're not gassing anybody. First of all, the Gray was already there because of all the mining in the fissures. Kassandra was trying to alleviate that with the ventilation system her people installed. Caitlyn is using the vents and manipulating the Gray to target criminal hotspots that sell shimmer with people still loyal to Silco. So she can do her job more effectively without involving innocents. And who'd better than a Zaunite like Vi to show her where those are. The same innocent people actually getting caught in the crossfire of all the Chem barons warring for control. The people of the under city do very much deserve to breathe. But more than that, they deserve not to have their kids killed because of gang wars.

@@MoMo-ke1iq This didn't start when Cassandra died, for most of the characters involved it started with Silco destroying the peace that was formed - killing Vander and Grayson, both Vi's and Cait's mentors, and creating a narcotic empire. The Jinx debacle and later on with the terrorist plot pretty much showed everyone concerned that peace and restraint are a loosing bet - they will make an agreement, only for some mentally unstable individual to bring both of them down, usually from Zaun.

Cait is trapped in the pain that turned to anger, she is essentially a good person in the first episode after burying her mother she met with the councilors and there she expressed that "innocents will die in the crossfire" when they intended to attack Zaun .. Cait was still there with all her humanity, then when she took refuge in the embrace with Violet she did not blame her for what her sister did, Cait was still there. What happened at the memorial service changed everything in her and Ambessa introduced the stinger into an open wound.

Cait's journey through Zaun in the first season brought out the best in her, the pain is bringing out the worst... all the characters are necessary and have nuances, this shows us what we are capable of doing in extreme situations, you like Violet and Jinx, I understand, but minimizing Cait for that reason is perhaps jealousy... you can love your family, your partner, your friends, even a pet, we all need people by our side, support, understanding, etc. Then we would only have destruction and chaos in life if we were only surrounded by hate.

And Vi said to Jinx “we used the Grey to clear the streets, keep people safe” as they only wanted to apprehend Jinx and agents loyal to Silco. The music video shows that it can be manipulated by different vents located in the undercity, I guess by the Kiraman key.

​@@bubsenseijebe2993Vi doesn't know the risk of everything in the long run unlike Caitlyn who knows what her mother did it for and its main use, they ONLY wanted Jinx and Silco agents, however releasing the gases on people of Zaun that ARE supremely toxic even if it is only for a few minutes is what generates the destruction of Zaun in the sense that many innocent people ended up poisoned just by breathing it, that's why there are scenes of people begging to be able to breathe again, taking into account the point already mentioned that Zaun already had toxic air, having released the gases makes the air even more toxic and simply also increases the hatred of the people of Zaun towards the surface

@@L.W.74 I mean she's not exactly rewarded, her relationship with Maddie is loveless, she's spent the last year or so in a joyless haze, exhausted by vitriol and spite, in which she's turned Jinx into the hero of Zaun, but more importantly, almost killing a child and breaking up with Vi was her hitting rock bottom, and the rest was the climb up from that, finding her way back to being the same person she was in season 1, and she only gets Vi back once she proves it to her.

I'm not trying to hate or anything, I just really would've liked if she and Ambessa were the finale villains, with Caitlyn being redeemed and changing her ways. @ I mean who does she have left? It’s just Vi, her dad’s still implied to be like some kind of miserable wreck since Caitlyn asks Maddie to check on him. Jayce is gone, her mom, and nor would she have Vi if she didn’t change her ways. Oh and I guess she lost an eyeball too. She also willingly gave up exacting any sort of justice for her mother’s death too after being obsessed with it for so long. Forgiving the person who murdered your mom after they admitted they’d do it all over again is about as much an act of repentance as you’re gonna get. Not all narrative consequence must take the form of dramatic loss or grand gestures of punishment, Arcane already has a number of characters like that. Caitlyn does redeem herself and her punishment for her failures isn’t enacted by some external arbiter, but rather a self-imposed struggle of morality and identity in which she does lose everything that truly matters to her because she chose to push them away, which remember, she did in response to being punished… for being a good person in season 1! Trusting Marcus to do the right thing? He attempts to murder her. Showing compassion to Huck? Gets betrayed by him. Tries to convince the council to see the plight of the Undercity and take action against Silco? Gets denied and pushed away by Vi despite pleading to work through it. Appropos of literally nothing: is despised by Vi’s delusional sister and is kidnapped and held hostage by her. Hesitates to kill Jinx because Vi pleaded with her not to? Jinx knocks her out and murders her mom. Season 1 was Caitlyn being repeatedly flogged for doing the right thing. Season 2 is her struggling with her own agency.

It does make me wonder about the existence of Janna since in the old lore of League she was responsible for helping Zaun breathe until they eventually adapted and forgot about her (thus she lost most her powers from lack of believers).
