I grew up with the legend of the Sutton Hoo treasure. I lived barely 5 miles up river. We went on a school educational trip to the site, and would ride out on our bikes to visit in the summer after swimming in the Deben. It was lovely to see the area depicted so well - made me quite nostalgic.

If I may. The film was outstanding. From my perspective as. Mexican American here in California the film is an outstanding standing portrayal of the British character. Folks will say of course it was made in Britain. Well, there were several aspects of film that really helped show the spirit and character of the British. This included the countryside, some talk of the war. Overall: very well done.

This was a wonderful movie. Ralph Fiennes was brilliant as Basil Brown. The script was beautifully done, and the cinematography was stunning. I have had an interest in the Sutton Hoo ship burial for at least 40 years. Gorgeous film.

I just finish watching this movie. It makes me crying twice. It’s such an amazing and inspirational movie during this awful epidemic time. The actors perform very well, bringing me back to the river of history. The piano music is really touching and I also enjoy the beautiful landscape. I sobbed out when the boy said to Robert “I knew she’s sick, but I cannot do anything for her....”

This movie really touched me. I'm locked down in London right now, but I spent a big chunk of my childhood in Norfolk, one county over from Sutton Hoo. The beautiful shots of the huge East Anglian skies - the sea and the reeds and the birds - made my heart hurt for home, but in a good way. Thanks to all involved in making this film. Wonderful.

I cannot believe how incredible this movie was, there should be more like this. The characters were wonderful, especially Ralph Fiennes and the moving scenes that kept rolling by, keeping me totally held to the screen. A beautiful story from the past/present and seeing the finds as shown by the British Museum, took me right back. Well done.

A few years ago I had to have something done at a sheet-metal fabrication shop in Kamloops B.C.. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I walked in and saw a beautiful replica of the Sutton Hoo helmet sitting on the shop counter. The shop owner had made it. I'd seen the real thing in 1982 and was quite aware of the archaeological dig. The Sutton Hoo treasures are known and appreciated around the world. The Netflix movie was excellent and as stated quite poignant on many levels.

There are so many really good things about this movie, such a great piece of story telling. The cast is excellent and all put in great performances, especially Lily James and Ralph Fiennes. It's not just about an archaeological dig though, it's about past lives, present lives and how things are remembered in the future. Overall great movie, could of done without the gay relationship hints.

I thought film was outstanding. Good directing and editing. As a Mexican-American here in Los Angeles area I was taxing my brain on the significance of finding Anglo Saxon artifacts. What were they? Since knowledgeable folks were so pleased does this mean that finding Anglo Saxon artifacts is rare? Watching show I’ve had to get my brain to say yes they are rare. I understand Anglo-Saxon peoples are the basis for modern day Brits. So to find small bits in this dig is a wonderful thing? All over I was very pleased with entire film. Well done.

Lily James' character was used for artistic license even though Peggy was a real person and a pivotal part of the actual digital. That story about a sexually frustrated wife disrupts the flow, but well cast.

So basically they do these archaeological digs for one reason or another. I bought, or what I thought bought the main property. It's very well built, I thought. Anyhow the house where he lives his modest life, well that is where they hide thee high value after some incident. The incident is that wagon they have out there. That's like a refreshment station. Out of know where these types that look like the helpers show up and start having a drink or a casual thing, that some how becomes this odd creepy terror incident ... Where then they hide the person in the smaller property. The person wakes up to this entire thing about earning enough money to pay the rent. The very property may even be of the same estate. Even odder, I've purchased the property with some money I had somehow. Then I've seen them treat people the same way, while I was hidden in the smaller property on concept of mechanical reset ...

Overall I loved this film, and as a Suffolk man I am very pleased that the local dialect was portrayed properly rather sounding like a west country pirate! I was less impressed by the liberties taken with some of the characters, after all these were real people and not fictional characters and they are no longer here to set the record straight. The implied gay story line attributed to Stuart Piggott is particularly irksome and has no evidential basis; it just smacks of a 21st century need to be politically correct and the apparent need to somehow shoehorn a completely unnecessary LGBT element in the story line. I have since conducted some basic research into the life of Stuart Piggott CBE, FBA, FSA, FRSE FSA Scot and found that he was a very knowledgeable man who went onto serve in the Army Intelligence Corps as a aerial Photographic Interpreter during WW2 rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. By 1976 he had written 22 books as well as many academic archaeological papers and received the CBE in 1972 as well as numerous other scholarly awards including the Grahame Clark Medal of the British Academy in 1992 at 82 years old. Rather than defamation, perhaps he was due more respect.

Found it disappointing, I think it would have been far better as a mini-series to develop the characters properly. Personally I found the 'out-of-sync dialogue to scene' technique was used way too much, the characters rather 'flat', the side love story to be totally pointless (it felt like it was added as an after thought) but, most annoyingly of all was the lack of the actual archaeology! The acting was great (not sure if Browns wife was fantastic or terrible to come a cross so normal) the cinematography brilliant and the scenery outstanding. For me the fault was partly the screenplay but mainly the editing.
